Get marine grade or stainless steel so they don't rust overtime. Thanks for the tip Rich!

Thank you of the comment, Chuck, I'll have to check, I think these ARE stainless, they were kind of pricey.

don't listen to this guy hes drilling holes in the floor boards which will rust out your floors boards and ruin the mats.

I have been looking for a solution to keep my rubber floor mats from sliding on my trucks vinyl flooring. Your idea may work but I have a couple of questions. Did you worry about tapping into something electrical when you drilled the floor?
Can you see this trick working on vinyl flooring? Is there a floor mat thickness issue when installing the snap?
    Thank you.

      Hi MrBritrider,
Yes, certainly of critical importance to check out what is on the other side of the sheet metal before drilling through it.
Carpet with its backing might not be the same thickness as what you are proposing. The good news is that snaps come in a variety of sizes to fit a variety of applications. I have a leather shop in the area that is well stocked with a wide variety. Unlike the big box stores or hardware stores that usually just have their usual limited selection, the local small business person is more apt to have a deeper selection, especially if they do leatherwork themselves. If you don't have a leather shop, maybe a motorcycle shop that works with Harleys or other big bikes. They usually have quite a few accessories for those bikes in leather and might have some supplies to do repairs on customer bikes. Take a drive to one and tell'em what you are trying to do and maybe they could advise you what would suit your needs.
I think what you propose is feasible. One thing I would do is reinforce around both the cap and the snap base so that the force of the snap is spread over a wider area and might help the snap from tearing or pulling through the vinyl. Some vinyl is kind of stretchy, especially in hot weather.
It would go like this, The domed, shiny cap of the snap, reinforcement, vinyl floormat, reinforcement, business end of the snap that snaps to other part screwed into the floor...make sense? What would I use for the reinforcement? Probably a rubber fender washer if thin enough or go to a bike shop and ask for a piece of bicycle inner tube and cut it up into squares, drill a hole through it and use that. Maybe not pretty but functional. I've seen my share of torn-out snaps from rubber mats in cars and trucks so an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

Is this still working for you, after a couple of months use?

Thank you for the question. Except for the occasional vacuuming, the floor mats don't move. I kind of forget about them. Unlike prior to installing the snaps when I would need to straighten them constantly.

I got them at Home Depot and they are also available craft or fabric stores and online.
