As a civilian of pilot since 1977 - I had not heard of this heroic deed....absolutely amazing the finesse needed to handle this maneuveur. He's clearly a true American legend! And about General Olds - met him and Chuck Yeager about 15 years ago at an airshow in Northest Georgia - both rock-solid American heros.

As a gamer who rarely flies flight combat sims, I wouldn't perform a Pardo's Push on a teammate. Because I don't trust myself in getting us both safely back to base! So, yeah. Pardo, was an extremely brave and highly skilled pilot! 😎👍

I had the pleasure of hearing this from Bob Pardo himself at the River-Rats Reunion in Bowling Green, Ky. I am the son of US Fighter Pilot Dick Wendell and growing up on military bases surrounded by Pilots all my life.... Going to HS in eastern NC ... One of my classmates was the daughter of Chuck Horner, Chuck is responsible for Bob being recognized with his silver star... I shared this with Bob, his comment .... I'll be damned, small world. I learned more about Bob Pardo that day and his actions to help a comrade after service to our nation is now known as the Air Warrior Courage Foundation. - Salute !

F4s hold a special place in my heart. My Uncle Cpt. Ramone Ortiz was flying back seat in the F4 Piloted By Dean Martin jr. That crashed in '87

General Robin Olds was a Living Legend and a Very Inspiring Aviator! Pardo should have gotten a Distinguished Flying Cross, Silver Star and a Medal Of Honor instead of a reprimand. Brass was just plain stupid!

I've heard this one several times.
But there are a few other insane vietnam stories.
Like the guy who fired a sidewinder into his rockets blowing everything up in his face. And had to limp home in a badly damaged and leaking F8 and land on a carrier at night.
Or one F4 being completely of of fuel. Overshot the boom then fell behind. And the boom operator captured the F4 with the boom arresting the backwards movment of a 13 tone F4.
Or another F4 also empty with a broken refueling port cover. After some very strong words he convinced the boom operator to jam the boom into the cover several times and it worked. He did get the cover off and refuelled.

I remember this story…. You couldn’t even make this up … truth is stranger then fiction.. I also love the story about the F4 equipped with A4 radar jammers to trick the Migs into thinking they were A4… then the F4s destroyed! Robin O. Was a genius

Balls of steel. They also knew no matter what happens in the air, the treatment of fighter/bomber pilots by the VC would have been far worse.

The amount of throttle control that man had - he wasn't flying his phantom, he WAS the phantom.
A little too much force and both airframes pop like fuel-filled soap bubbles.

You never leave your wingman Mav! To top brass from Maverick, “and teach them how to come home sir!”
I’d take Olds in my corner any time!!! I heard about this awhile back. The history channel did a series called “Legends of Airpower”. Pretty ballsy move! They counted to infinity twice!! 😂😂😂

Hey Max Afterburner. Out of left field question, but if you can discuss this: why doesn’t the F-15 Eagle have slats on the leading edges of its wings? (Just one of those nights thinking about this stuff instead of going to sleep)

    • @steve_neuser
      @steve_neuser 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

I flew the Mighty Eagle for 1,769 hours. The F-15C doesn't need slats due to the "conical cambered wing" designed by McDonnell Douglas GENIUS Engineers! The Eagle flies wonderfully from about 90 KIAS to Mach 2.12 (my personal best). Hope this helps. BTW, Max flew the Viper, which is Fly By Wire (FBW) and has slats. A real pain to fight in BFM with the Eagle,, as the F-16 has amazing thrust-to weight and the FBW makes the plane do what the pilot wants across a broad spectrum of airspeed and G.

I had heard this story before but never get old
    Outstanding display of airmanship
And god bless Robin Olds for his intestinal fortitude to stand up for his men
My cousin flew F4 in this time period and I’d love to find out the squadron so I could get his patch
Unfortunately he died in a motorcycle crash before I could talk to him about it
    Anyway
    Thanks for the videos
