- Here is some few things I would look for when buying a 1999 to 2006 Silverado. Check me out on Instagram @pittbull_garage
Everything in the video is opinion based just tips of some things to look for.
I think the 1999 Silverado may have been the best that Chevy has ever built.
Definitely new ones are no good
I just bought one yesterday for $2200. Was a steal. Thing has almost no rust, factory paint is still good. But it’s such a cool little truck
Great Truck...rust is the only negative
From 1990-2007 they made amazing trucks. Great but they dont have an balls when putting in work. And 1998-2006 (2007), they handle more like Camaros rather than trucks. When towing the shift points are more racey. They also love to spin off road conpared to dodge/ford.
2008-2012 is my pick if you need a lil more power.

Beautiful truck dude. I picked up a 2000 Silverado 1500 4wd 5.3liter v8 with 125,000 miles. Have had for 3 years now, solid truck!!!
Think it’s worth 2001 Silverado 1500 4wd LS extended cab 117,000 for 10,000 worth the price.

Probably closer to 8k. 10 is high but it’s also a solid 10k investment. It’s not a bad deal but you definitely have room to barter.

Very nice truck! I have a '99 Z71 Ext Cab with the 5.3 and 4.10 gears that has 252,000 miles on her and she runs great with cold AC and cruise that works as well. Yeah, she was a cheap beater with some cab rust but all in all, she is a great truck. As of now, the AC tensioner pulley, idler arm, tranny mount ABS module and both front hubs have been replaced. This old truck of mine idles smoother than both our '08 and '11 Tahoes do.

I have a 2004 Chevrolet Silverado z71 . I bought it in 2005 with 7,000 miles on it. It now has 98,000 miles on it. I love only 6 minutes from work. Still looks new and rides perfect.
I like the 99-02 front more. :) I like this video because it gives me a view how mine would look with the hd grill and cap. my truck is grey too.

They're very reliable my uncle has had one for 5 years and he does very low maintenance on it and it still manages to keep holding up.

These were very solid trucks. I've been told that the transmission is a weak point, but you would never know that by mine. It's got 370k on it and doing good still. Doesn't sound too weak to me, but I've never towed anything with it either. It had a 5th wheel hitch when I bought it and was told it was used on a farm hauling hay around. It might be true because I bought it when it was 11 years old and it only had 56k miles on it. It's been the best vehicle i've ever owned and second place isn't close.

Everything went out out at 180000 new transfer case new used moter. 3rd 4th put Lucas in It. Still running strong. Rust everywhere. But I treat it like I stole it. Love that truck. Dont cost me shit taking it too 300000. Fyi I got another truck.

I just bought a 1 owner clean title 05 silverado Texas edition with only 69k original miles. Everything is so nice on it and only paid 8k

Jorge GaRCIA that’s a little high for the miles but single cabs short beds do hold there value. Especially if it’s rust free

It got rebuilt later after this video upgraded 4l60 with a trailblazer ss stall 2700
I saw a 99 with a little over 200,000 miles, bald front tires but new ones come with it. Newly repaired crossmember, it has a new 5.3 vortec v8. They’re asking 1200 obo I am only willing to go for 800$. Would you have any tips for when I go to check it out
Just double check the trans and making sure there is no blown head gasket... check the oil make sure it’s not coolant or metal in there.
Which transmission would you recommend? Best and what's a good budget one too
4l60 is good if you rebuild it right.. but a good upgrade is 4l80 trans definitely a good upgrade
What are your thoughts on the 4.3l v6 99 regular cabs? Cali truck so no rust
There good trucks the 4.3 is a strong motor seen them easily hit over 200k miles

M.W M.W can’t go wrong with a 5.7 they are cheaper to fix then 5.3 And are Reliable definitely a plus it the motor is new
Never had any of these issues. I had my 2001 for 8 years and only problem was the wheel hub bearing went out in 2017.
Question just bought a 2002 Chevy shortbed 4.8L 5 speed truck today. The second owner said it came that way from factory. Any thoughts or how to research this would be appreciated. Btw it wouldn’t be the end of the world if wasn’t born that way I absolutely love the truck!
Yes they came from the factory with that option you don't see many left today.. they also a had special edition that came with the 4.8 and 5 speed definitely a good truck

@@jmurf7637 i’ve got a 99 with the 5 spd as well, have had it since 2002 has been fun, the trucks are overall kinda cheaply built so lots of wrenching gets done but they sure drive nice when they aren’t broken

thought on a 2006 chevrolet silverado 1500 cateye body style, 5.3L V8 with 4x4, leather interior, fully loaded, has 208,000km (128,000miles) on it for $14,000 canadian (around $10,000 US). what are your thoughts? good deal or no? transmission engine body issues etc, thanks!

I’m looking at an 01 extended cab Silverado. It has some rust on the rockers and the spare tire holder rotted out. The rest of the metal is good. They’re asking 2k for it. Is that a fair price or do you think it’s sketchy?

What do you think if a 05 sierra that has 260,000miles on it all original drive train with the 5.3 vortex any issues do you think will come of its gone be my first truck and I want to know what I can get into
I would ask if he had did basic maintenance work like oil pan gasket valve cover gasket water pump.. all those things are weak points on them. My biggest concern would be the trans make sure it shits fine and it being original I wouldn’t race the truck or care super heavy loads other then that I think it should hold up

Good trucks
Well there is also a 4.8 v8. They know for knock sensors. The 4wd are know for putting a hole in the transfer case. Abs and brakes lights come on plus you have trouble with emissions codes. Rear ends are not the best. Rather go with 12 bolt a Detroit locker 410 gears. The cluster like to go out 03 to 05 they have problems with them. They was a recall around that time for these trucks. Also known for ignition switches going out they are cheap. There is more but that's just a small list.

Yes, you can never go wrong with the z71 package. I have an exact one. Currently on 270k miles and still running strong

sebastian castro yea 10k not bad a little high. I would always start low say ask 8k then go from there.
i bought my 2006 gmc sierra crew cab z71 7 years ago for 10250 tax title and plates it had just hit 200000 miles now has 290000 on it ive done 1 front wheel bearing and replaced all the brake lines otherwise been a great truck

Jose I would say 3k to 3500 aslong its rust free or very little rust. That’s pretty good mileage and 4.3 are good little engines lot torque down low

what's ur opinion of a super clean 2004 extended cab. the paint is in real good condition. it has a sound system and a flow master 10 muffler. all for 8k and 151k miles

e209k yes I would as long the truck is clean and you test drive it make sure everything works. Keep eye on oil pressure check for oil leaks and the trans shifts good.. if it’s been rebuilt that’s a plus. But I would ask what’s the lowest he would take then go from there.. If he says you say a price would start at 5500 and go up from there.
Actually at idle a small block 305-350 should have 15psi of oil pressure but when the rpms get up it needs to be between 50-60 psi

@@adanchavez7916 check for oil leaks the valve covers, oil pan and remain or key points. Also cold start to see if there’s any lifter noise other then that just the things I said in the video.

Like those years better then the cat eyes. I have a 99 Sierra with 128k miles so far. Runs like a champ. Only replace rear brake calipers after 15 years and water pump last year.
99-07 classic for 1500 trucks.... 00-06 for SUV... Not sure about the gmt800 vans and HD they different too

RONNIE HERNANDEZ if it’s a good price and not smoking are any major leaks I would get it. My neighbor has a 05 with 400k motor never been touched. I would just make sure it doesn’t have a lifter knock also and make sure the oil pressure is good should be around 45 to 65 psi

I have a 199 chevy 1500 single cab short bed 153k miles 5.3 v8
I would not buy one of these trucks in this year rang. Transmissions transfer case fule pumps e-vap system and many other things go wrong really fast if you use these trucks in this year range as work trucks they dont hols up and they can only pull around 4k pounds constantly revved over 3500 rpm.
The one im talking about is a 2006 with the 6.0 vortec. They might be good if you just drive in the city. don't take them down dirt roads and pull, trust me😅
Coming from a place where we salt the fuck outta the roads and all the salt in the air (Newfoundland) this truck makes me sick to my stomach go put that back inside 😂
What’s a decent amount of mileage when buying one of these?
100k to 160k pretty decent.. me personally I wouldn’t pick another one up unless it has Receipts of preventable maintenance especially if paying over 5k in my opinion.
Shoot mine has 303,500 plus best truck i have ever had. Only major repair was the tranny died at 284k

@@camreid1457 yes you will find the occasional one that has no rust, like yours and like a ‘99 my buddy had which was almost perfect body wise. But I’ve seen hundreds of these trucks all rusted in same area.... rocker panels,cab corners,and fenders above rear wheels. Rusted clean through from the inside out. Not to mention brake lines, gas lines and I’d advise u to check ur manifold bolts because they rust off as well. And don’t get me started on wheel bearings! If you have a good one well then good for u and good luck but it ain’t the norm.

Albert Quintero depends on why it has a salvage title.. if it was in bad wreck or frame repair I would stay away from it. Anything else it wouldn’t bother me as long it runs good and is a good price.

I say best place would be in Texas it’s a lot trucks down there for good prices. Also out west California have seen decent prices and no rusted out trucks
