  • Sacramento-region families are participating in a groundbreaking autism intervention program that involves children as young as 12 months. Using several practices, therapists and parents work on many skills within the same activity with children and are able to increase their IQ and language skills.

It's more like "Early intervention can decrease the negative effects of autism." If you're going to make a statement about something like this, you need to be accurate.

@CharitysClarity I started worrying about my son at eighteen months old. I was told the same thing by family. Don't wait! Having them evaluated is not a death sentence. It's just people who can help give you the tools to further her development. Getting my son into early intervention was absolutely the right choice. Even though your daughter is 5, it's not too late to bring her in. I think 5 is too old for early intervention, but it's not too old to be evaluated and have people help give you the tools that you and your daughter deserve.

Wait a minute. What is this, some kind of radical new thing? Early intervention doesn't quite do what's stated here.

I know this is old, but maybe for anyone who happens to read this comment. Early intervention can vary wildly from state to state. Some states have extremely underfunded social welfare programs and departments. While other states have well funded ones. If you happen to live in a state that doesn't really have well funded state social welfare programs. You can always look at private or federal ones as well.

'Decrease' autism - ridiculous title. Because ABA doesn't do RCTs, we will never know whether children will naturally develop and grow out of certain behaviours, develop language, etc. without intervention. So is actually the 'intervention' working, or is it simply biological maturation occurring? What a con.

@Mp herbs do not cure or do anything for autism. Please be careful about giving your son herbal preparations without oversight from a medical doctor. I’m glad he’s going well.

I don't like the phrase "decrease" Autism... That is the type of language that is more damaging to the autistic community and damaging the neurotypical's views on autism.

Title wise... Decrease autism? You cant decrease it... Just decrease the physical manifestation of symptoms... They will still internally be autistic because you cant just fix it and make it go away and internalizing all that can cause mental health issues and long term damage to a person. Im curious if this therapy will be around in 10-20 years and or if it will still be preaching on how much help it did for these kids when they are able to speak up thhemselves. Cuz you know excessive aba was such a great thing til we figured out how much phycological damage it did to a bunch of kids years later....

@PRISTINE JOEL they didnt heal anything. Its a genetic nerotype difference so herbs wont cure anything. If anything they learned masking skills which does more harm in the longrun. Being autistic doesnt mean we dont have the capability to learn speech or social skills at all, its a spectrum for a reason, and while some cant others are able to even if at a delay

right? They should also have a character that shows the other side of autism, the severe side of smearing feces on walls, gouging their own eyes out, scratching their skin off, biting others in their environment, and running out into busy streets.
You have to include everyone, not just the less severe autistics

Such a stupid Statement. Autism is a broad topic and can range from minor to serious need of support. To imply these interventions are decreasing autism is not just misleading but assuming that autism is wrong. Autism only appears challenging because of our inability to provide effective support. I am aware that many of the consultants in medicine have conditions like Asperger's. Thanks to their meticulous framework of thinking they have supported many people. The key difficulties autistic people have is socialising.
To summarize if we were able to diagnose people from the past as effectively as we do today we would find how a larger collection of people are on the autistic spectrum.

It's funny because what you've done with this comment is tried to fit autistic people into a non-conforming bubble instead. Understanding that autistic people struggle to navigate this world and wanting to help them isn't a bad thing. Especially since clearly you're not level 3 non verbal severely autistic. Helping a child who is barely able to communicate what they want and giving them the skills to do so isn't degrading them. We can walk in two gum at the same time. We can love and appreciate autistic people while also helping them. And you do not do anyone a service by dissuading them to take their children to the services.
