  • Again, huge shout out to Joe Sansalone from Heavy Metal, Amps and Pedals! Now, with regard to LTD, you guys seriously need to buy a Korean made LTD 1000 series!! They are every bit a copy of the more expensive ESP Customs. The only difference that I personally see is where LTD chooses a 1/16" flame maple veneer, ESP uses 1/4" to 1/2" flame maple cap that are gorgeous! Thanks for watching!!

I'm a hyper-critical guitar owner, and I've gotta say......the LTD EC-1000 I played on at one point that was about $850 is the absolutely best metal guitar that I've ever played on. Outperformed Ibanez, outperformed Schecter, outperformed Jackson.....it's the best import guitar I've ever played.

I actually got my Viper 400 for free. It’s a 2005 Korean model and it is probably the best made guitar I’ve ever played. It has EMG 81/85 and it’s really beat up after having played it live for several years. It never had tuning stability problems, no weird neck problems. It’s straight as an arrow and never goes out of tune! It’s funny because it sat I strung in my friends closet for years before he just handed it to me. I think the older ones were amazing because I bought an EC 1000 in vintage black with Seymour Duncan’s and it had a weird twist in its neck. I got rid of that one.

Having been a gibson/ibanez player I'm looking at schecter and ESP for something different. Not sure what things were like 2 years ago but here in 2024 I've noticed that most LTD EC-1000 guitars come loaded with stainless steel frets where as the more expensive ESP's do not. LTD are the way to go when looking at the price vs the lifetime of the instrument. I could not justify buying a really expensive guitar that ultimately won't last.

Louis, my thoughts on the LTD vs ESP debate are very similar to yours except my journey to getting there has happened in reverse. I've owned several LTDs from different ranges over the years but pulled the trigger on an E-II Eclipse II last June. It's my first Japanese made ESP/E-II and I was motivated heavily to buy it by the alleged increase in quality that is said by many to be there from a Korean LTD to a Japanese ESP.
While I like the E-II and can tell that a lot of care and effort went into building it, I honestly don't believe it's better than my 2012 LTD EC-1000. In fact, after putting the two under the microscope heavily recently, I actually think that the LTD plays and sounds better even though I've tried to make sure the two instruments were set up as similarly as possible in terms of action, pickup heights, etc.
My experience was very similar with an E-II Horizon NT-II that I briefly had last Fall that I didn't feel was any better than my 2015 Korean LTD MH-1000.
Japanese ESP and E-II are absolutely great instruments but I believe the Korean LTD 1000 Series instruments to be arguably the best on the market today for $ to performance.

Hey Louis, thanks for your comparison. I wish I'd have seen this video 2 years ago. In 2006 I got my first ESP, now they're 5 ESP and LTD Guitars here with me, all bought new:
    - 2013 Ltd EC-1000 FR Deluxe, Korea, Floyd Rose 1000, EMG 81 and 60, abalone binding: absolutely flawless instrument! Not the slightest hint of an issue.
    - 2014 Ltd James Hetfield Iron Cross, Korea, EMG Het-Set: sounds huge, feels great, very little paint flaw on the fretboard binding (masking I guess).
    - 2015 Ltd H-1007 Deluxe, Korea, EMG 81-7 and 707: very tiny chip on the fretboard binding near the pickup. Otherwise flawless.
    - 2012 ESP V-II Std FR, Japan, original Floyd Rose, maple neck throug body, 2 x EMG 81: everything from top to bottom absolutely perfect.
    - 2006 ESP Eclipse I CTM, Japan, EMG 81 and 60, maple set neck instead of mahogany: This one kinda stands out a bit from all my other guitars. It somehow has the mojo I guess. It feels lighter, sounds fuller and punchier, still more articulated and bright also. The neck on this feels just a bit better fitting and smoother then on the others. It has a bone nut and sperzel locking tuners. And it's got the older shape with the longer horn like for example Esa Holopainen's Eclipses. And the deeper back relief also.
So I think, the 1000 series LTDs in technical aspects totally hold up to the standard ESP, maybe even the customs. They for sure have a very good quality for the price. But one day, somebody might meet an instrument, that just has it. One that just fits, feels and sounds that little bit better. Might be an ESP, might be an LTD, or an E-II. Who knows...
    Greetings from Bavaria, Germany!

@@everythingizextreme666 It's a play thing. Tonally, they all sound identical to the LTD models. I had two ESP Eclipse Standard's and they both played different from each other (one was brand new, and the other was used). But the ESP Eclipse is far ahead the LTD EC-1000 in weight balance, and playability. I eventually sold all of them and now have a Gibson LP (double cut) and a Gibson Explorer. Both required a lot of work to be playable, but now my Explorer is my favorite guitar. However, the ESP Standard I ordered from Guitar Center brand new was perfect from day 1. I remember when LTD came out and I've always kind of viewed them as a second rate ESP. Even though I can't afford an ESP I'd look down my nose at the LTD. All that said I owned a Korean LTD MH-1000 Deluxe a few years back. Found it in a pawn shop for $125. I don't think they knew what it was. Probably the nicest guitar I've owned. I rarely played it. It was mint and so nice I didn't want to scratch it. Traded it for a early '90's Jackson Fusion( Dinky body Gibson scale length). I fell in love with that scale and been jonesing for something with a Les Paul vibe but a more shredder neck. Picked up an EC-401 over the weekend. I really like it. Neck could stand to be a tad thinner like my Jackson as I'm still love the feel of the mid '90's Jackson Professional series, but I'm really warming up to this LTD. I'm curious what the extra thin U shape on the limited edition LTD KH3 feels like.

LTD's are fantastic. 1000-series LTD's are all any 'home studio' player will ever need. The pickups on the 1000 series are on par with anything else in production. LTD's sound great right out of the box.
If you set string heights to spec LTD's feel ~almost~ the same as an ESP. LTD's come a little 'dry' out of the kiln, and the necks accept a tremendous amount of oil. A side-of-fret swat here and there with the 3000-grit sandpaper block and some XXXX steel wool, and you're getting to that attention to detail level that you get from Kiso, you're just not getting it from the assembly line. You will have to do that part yourself. With a little love you can oil that fretboard to a furniture-grade black, and you'll never tell the difference after a year or so of 'break in' unless you look down at the headstock. They break-in very nicely, and I always point my students towards the LTD 1000 line.
If you're a touring musician, the chromium alloy parts will begin to corrode much faster than stainless steel due to sweat under stage lights. Stainless holds up, night after night. You'll find that your premium components will stand up to tour rigors much more effectively than the softer metals, especially if you get condensation going from cold to hot climates on the same run. Once the 'orange' in the chromium parts starts to show, swap them out with stainless components. Get ya some Tone Ninjas on the headstock, sculpt a bone nut to match the composite, and you're quickly coming close to ESP-land with your LTD, at about 1/6th the cost.
A new M-I custom is $5,995. An LTD M-HT series is about $999. With $20 for a new bone nut, $60 for some good tuners, $25 for a good jack plate, and about $5 in sandpaper and a little elbow grease you can get what you want for pennies on the dollar.
I have nothing but good things to say about LTD's.

My first guitar was an LTD F-50 made in Indonesia, after a few months I managed to exchange it for a LTD M-200FM. I liked these guitars. But then I bought a white LTD DV8-R and I was delighted with it, I think it was the best guitar I have ever had. But then I had to sell it. A few years later I bought an ESP V-II STD, it was a good guitar, but it was worse than the DV8-R. I had to sell the V-II STD again and after a while I bought the LTD V-500, I did not feel the difference between them, they sound almost the same, but the V-500 also falls short of the DV8-R in terms of quality and sound, but still I like her. In a few months I will try to look for a black DV8-R, I really hope that I can find it in almost new condition. This model means a lot to me because it was played by one of my favorite guitarists (Dallas Coyle). I would love to buy a black ESP DV8, but for my country it costs too much money. I think that new guitars of all manufacturers have become worse, in fact, this applies to almost all products, not just guitars.

    • @xxxDiabloNeroxxx
      @xxxDiabloNeroxxx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@model101jr5 I don't know why, but I don't regret selling the V-II STD. Top LTDs used to be very good. I don't think it makes sense to change DV8-R to ESP. I recently bought a Peavey 6505 MH, which made me realize that having a good guitar (I don't think anyone would argue that top LTDs are good guitars) is better to focus on buying better gear. Although, if you really want ESP and it will motivate you to play even more than now, then in this case, buying a new guitar also makes sense.

There's absolutely no reason to buy an ESP unless you're like me and don't know what else to buy bc my money tree never stops. My LTD JH600 and LTD KH-601 are exactly as my 1987 ESP M1, 1990 ESP MII, 1991 ESP MII, my second ESP MII (bc I had to buy two of the same) 1992 ESP MII, 1996 ESP Horizon, 1986 ESP Mirage, 1997 ESP Maverick and whatever other ESPs I have bc I have 53 guitars. Lol.

I usually tape off the two ends of my necks then hit it with a 0000 steal pad. It mattes it out a bit and makes it perfect. So none of my guitars are sticky at all. I never give it the chance; it's the first thing I do. :)
