    458 All the way.
    Far superior styling (imo);
    More desirable engine character: throttle response, maximum rpm and speed with which the block builds rpm;
    Far greater exhaust note;
    Total power output more usable on the street.

      The simplest answer is usually the most correct, and I think this extends to a car's styling. The more they tack on vents, cuts, and lines to the same basic design dating back to the 458, the worse it looks.

      Imo I think the 488 looks a little better than the 458 and the f8 - but all 3 look great but the 458 looks a little too plain on the side of the car and I like the little intake on the side of the car and the 458 has cooling issues because there’s barely any intake but either way it’s beautiful

      My main gripe with the 488 is the hood vents, I always think they look like really badly misaligned panels. Maybe it's a throwback to the decades past lol. I also don't like the buck teeth up front. The Pista fixes both these imo

    Love my 488. Was a bit meh about the sound at first, but with the force open valve mod, it's pretty nice sounding, especially on the downshift. Also, the turbo whistle at high revs sounds like you're in a jet. I think it looks awesome as well. Oh yea... and the drive... super fun

    Thanks for the objective review. Over 650hp and over 500ft-lbf torque on pump gas is pretty nice. I'm thinking the difference in exhaust sound is firmly placed in the "first world problem" category. Typically, the people listening to the exhaust are behind you, and with the extra 100hp, they're further behind.... Both are beautiful cars and either one would put a smile on my face.

    The turbos in the european cars are not for HP, are for the EURO6 the anti-pollution standard. what we have in europe is horrible, I'm envious of you... We have engines with 3 cilindres...it's horrible!!!

    The 458 is the better option in my opinion, a n/a 9k rpm v8 producing 562hp and it has more soul when driving. I’ve driven both and from 0-62mph they don’t feel that different in terms of speed.

      The 488 most certainly feels faster. It's got way more torque. But I still prefer the 458.

    the 458 has a much better sound and a better engine . the engine on this one is smaller with two turbos to compensate . the styling of the 458 is pure and the 488 looks like a 458 with holes made aftermarket. 458 all the way , looks , sound , feeling , character , engine . this is why today the 458 is almost the same price as the 488

      Yes. The 488 owners are pissed how much there values have dropped so fast. They made twice as more 488 than 458.

    Pretty much spot on. The 458 tuned and complete exhaust mod. Will blow this car away. The biggest improvement on the 488 I liked was the breaks. Other than that I do like the 458 more. The also produced 2 times more of 488’s. And has hit there value. Because the F8 Tributo is so much better and good that many owners will trade in the 488 and get the F8. But many owners of 458 are electing to keep longer and get a F8 or 4 or 6 years old, Or just keep it all together. Because it’s the last natural aspirated car and gives you the real Ferrari sensation of that Formula 1 high pitch. 458 will retain there value more than the 488. Many of my friends that own 488 are actually pissed. Due to the fact they payed big money and the car has lost half its value. Also they made twice as many. So more on the market. Where 458 are not. Great show. Thanks.

    The nose of the 488 is imho its worst angle. The Pista looks great, but neither are as elegant as the 458 ( an aesthetic highpoint). The F8 tributo although by no means elegant looks, I think a lot more interesting than the 488. Still a great piece of kit though! Nice review Dan Cheers.

    458 all the way for me. Luv the styling vs 488 and it has more than enough performance for me abilities. Plus that exhaust sound!!! But since my pocket book will not allow me either, the Camry SE looks damn good😎

    Glad you made this review. I’ve noticed prices of the 488 GTB in near parity with some 458’s. Personally, I like the looks of the 488, but the drama is a major sales point. I got to drive the F8 recently which I imagine to be similar to the 488. Everything was great, but it seemed a little too docile (sound/rawness). Don’t get me wrong, it was insanely and impressively fast, but the grin factor is less. I get that emissions rules and gov’t mandates are forcing the homogenization of cars (eventually turning them into appliances), but the concern is; at what point do you just go buy the Porsche, lol. For the rich who can afford to keep the classics and buy the newest car each generations, no biggie. However, for the lower tiers of us who may buy one or two super cars in our lifetimes, the size of the buyers market may be reduced. I expect these newer ones to depreciate much more quickly than the older generations. In fact, I foresee the day your 458 is worth two 488’s. Thanks for the video Dan!

    I think they blended the turbo whistle with the engine sound in a way that complements it. It's different and I was a bit of an NA purist. I had a R8 V10+ with a capristo and that sounded awesome, but this is a different kind of awesome sound when the turbo whistles

    The Sound is the soul of sports car experience. Ferrari lost its mark with the turbo engine and the 488 really sounds like a McLaren or 911. Doesn't excite me at all. 458 is the last true Ferrari unfortunately

    Honestly as nice as the 488 is, I found it just wasn’t for me. I rented one a few years ago, fortunately it was “new” with only 500 miles, and I found I didn’t care for the car feeling like it was always itching to go faster at highway speeds. Almost like it was cutting in and out. Granted I had my 12 year old daughter with me and remained subdued but it just constantly felt like it wanted to be going far faster then 65.
    The stock exhaust is really really quiet. I mean really quiet compared to past Ferrari’s.
    The ride quality is second to none and light years ahead of the f430. I found that I’d rather be in the California or the 458 though as they didn’t feel like they constantly wanted to leap out from under me.

    Ferrari would have had to make a 5.5L V8(max displacement for naturally aspirated GT2 class racing) with a 9000rpm rpm limit, 103mm bore and 82.5mm stroke(230mm deck height and a 110mm to 115mm bore spacing), 730PS(720 HP) and 680nm(502ft.lbs).

    I get that trying to explain the turbo force vs the NA style. It's rather satisfying. It's growing on me, as it feels better in all gears at all levels. Having to learn how to change gear faster that an NA supercar as it red lines so fast

    The look on your face says 458😆 It’s very hard not to associate the sound that usually comes with Ferrari unless you’ve never heard one before. I hear the Tributo is a little on the quiet side also unfortunately☹️

    Calling it a 488 instead of a 3.9l V8 (398GTB) is understandable. Given that it is a size smaller than the 458 and 430.

    The 488 uses the old Ferrari naming convention. The 250, 275, 330, 365 series were all the displacement of one cylinder in cc.

    I prefer the look of the 488, the performance speaks for itself, the look on your face says it all, it might intrest you to know this is not the first time Ferrari have used the cc's per cylinder model designation, they were using it in the 1960's, 70's, 250GTO, all the 250 series, 275 series, 365GT4, 365GT4/BB and so forth, 365GTC for example.......You know, I like the sound of the 488, and really, if you want more sound, as you say you can also sort the exhaust.........Nice review.

    Dan, I think that you cut some corners on this comparison. You did not drive your 458 first and then the 488 so amplify the differences like you did on the last one.

      Being a 488 Spider and Pista owner, with an F8 Spider on order, that is not entirely true. The F8 and 488 are very close. The Pista is the one that stands out.

      Let's talk Pista vs. F8 for a moment. I use my 488 as a summer daily, so comfort is a factor. The Pista Spider is a great car, but it is not a car you want to use often. Trust me, I tried. I put 5k kilometres on it the first month I had it. It is much more noisy inside, there's no glove box, it is much harder etc. It is nothing like a 488 or F8. Servo is tuned differently, brake bias is different etc. I actually sold the Pista Spider Friday, and purchased a zero mileage Pista coupè as I wanted harnesses for track use and harnesses cannot be installed in the Spider. So I realized that the coupè was the better car for me. But it is very focused compared to the F8 and 488. The F8 offers Lusso levels of comfort when cruising along, and still manages to be sharp when pushed. But it does not have the agility and light feel ofca Pista, far from it. I have put an F8 order in as my 488 is getting a bit long in the tooth with over 35k hard km on the clock.
      I have had the chance to experience all three cars back to back, on track and road, and the 488 and F8 are the close ones. The F8 is actually slightly softer than the 488 and thus is even further from the feel of the Pista.
      I'm just conveying my experiences and I stand to gain or lose nothing by it. If you have not driven any of them I fully understand why they might seem very close. But fact is that they aren't and as a pair, the F8 and Pista co-exist very well and offer a unique experience.

      Better than both of these cars.
      The sound, looks, and the crazy gearshifts man.
      The dual clutch boxes feel like slushboxes in comparision to the Scuds single clutch one

      Yeah. And the difference between an F430 and 458 is not much either. Tells you nothing. The 488 is still the more expensive car in most places and will continue to be so. Find me a nice 488 for less than 150usd.

      @@AB-80X Not really. Do your research. I own a few Ferraris and you don't buy the cheapest one. 458s range from 170 to 200 and 488 are 210 to 230 for a coupe. 430s are below 100k.

Last I checked the US market the Italia was in the 140-160 range, and the 488 is in the 18-220 range. You need to look at what cars move rather than just was they list at.

      You want me to keep going? Like I said, there are priced to move and wishful pricing. Demanding over 200k for an Italia in the US is nonsense. The Spiders are below that. They are in the 190-210 area and 488 Spiders seem to move at around 230-250 usd.
      The Euro market is a little different, and the 458 has taken a deeper hit here than in the US.

      @@AB-80X yes I'm a Fchatter for telwenty years. US market is not the euro market. Red under 20k mile's for 140 doesn't exist in the USA. Maybe some yellow good examples no stories for 160. You buy on options not price There are plenty of threads on Fchat about this subject.

    Great review as always !!! It's funny, when 458 came out it was my least favorite as it looked plain from a side view and I thought the 488 was a champ. But after subscribing to your channel and seeing your 458, Loepers and Richard's, it became a new favorite as it's a lot sexier than 488.... also, your s-line exhaust sounds way better than that one....488 is gorgeous but I prefer your 458....

    Both are amazing in their ways, but after I tested the F8, I prefer it over the two "458 and 488" with the F8 Ferrari made it perfect! Very close to the 488 Pista but with even more final speed! Regarding 488 GTB and 458 I still have my doubts, because the "problem" of the sound with a direct exhaust solves and is almost as good as the sound of the 458! For the rest the 488 is a superior car! Great content!

    458 for me. It’s my dream car, that or a C8 Z06 now and he’ll I may just have to try and acquire both at some point in my future. I’m a huge NA guy! I coikd care less about how much faster the 488 is, I’m not trying to even do 200mph but the occasional weekend track days and canyon runs are a yes.

    458 is my dream car and I’m very young far from even getting my hands on one but I’ll do whatever it takes to get one even if it’s dated in the future I wouldn’t mind to invest in the car to keep it running and working like a brand new one

    Nice vid mate...while both are lovely for me the 458 is just a bit more speacial...no pun intended. And although while naturally aspirated unless you are in a drag race with a 720s its hardly slow. And of course it does sound better.

    488 more performance than 458 yes and 430 of course BUT was its amazing in my opinion is that the rear and side look of the F430 is nicer than the two younger brothers.

    I think the 458 is the best sports car out there… no matter what you do to the 488, the 458 will always sound better… 458 also has better styling and 500+ hp is plenty power for the 458, you can actually use the car to its limit.

    After 5 minute conversation hearing about how the 488 sucks and the 458 was better, about how the 488 has no soul and Ferrari lost it's way, I ask the person at the meet what Ferraris they own or have driven. Silence...then they say they have never even driven a Ferrari and they walk away and go back to their apartment to read Car and Driver. BOTH cars are amazing! Don't criticize any exotic if you are driving a Minivan! LOL Buy either....you can't lose!

      You can do that as much as you can in the US. It's illegal to do most places.
      Capristo and Novitec which are both European based companies offer cat delete pipes for the 488.

      @@td8552 I live in Denmark and my dealer is the Scandinavian Capristo distributor.
      All you need is the Capristo OBD Wizard. It's very easy to decat the 488 here in Europe. I used to have 100 Cell cats on my Lusso, also used the OBD Wizard. No CEL or anything.
