    So sad to see that once Grand Old House being demolished.
    I don't understand why when somebody passes away, a house is left to crumble to the ground.
    The quality and the character can never be replicated.
    Your porch is going to look absolutely gorgeous especially with the authentic light fixtures.
    Glad to see that you do your research and was able to find the internal parts to your lights. Looking forward to seeing the final results.

      @joycedudzinski9415 agreed so sad. In this case, my understanding he had no family and was left to a former tenant who doesn't live in town and for reasons unknown, just never sold it or fixed it. 😞

    My back hurts just watching you with that ceiling! Great lights 👍👍 Originals are always much more stylish, like art pieces… attention to detail and the glass is always so much lovelier I can see where the 90’s boob lights were adopted from, they missed the mark. Great old abandoned house am glad you were able to tour and photograph it. Hopefully as much can be reclaimed before it comes down.

    At least I have learned that blue paint doesn't keep wasps away, can use white paint. That was so labor intensive but looks great so far. I hope other things saved from that old house before demolition.

    Over 30 years ago when my wife and I were younger, we spent seven years burning off all the paint on the exterior of our 1914 bungalow. I have never regretted it.

    Glad my Mahogany bead board was never painted in my 1905 twin-just had it varnished in 2020

      @JamesABeckHouse  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @tankerman135 nice. I've seen some great examples of that and considered that here as well. Unfortunately, some of the beadboard over time has been replaced, which wouldn't make for a good match to do a varnish

    I really enjoy looking at the home and watching the situations.

    My parents bought their Victorian house from the widow of the man who built it. It was haunted. Mom and I thought it was the original owner who didn't like what my father was doing to the house. Most things happened to him. I remember missing tools constantly.

    Hello, I have to ask is the owner of the house you got the lights from going to remove all of the wonderful trim and such plus the stained glass windows before it is taken down? it would be so sad not to be able to save all of that. I sure hope so. Take Care

    Our wraparound porch ceiling is stained with birch stain which looks very driftwoody (we’re not at the seaside) and everyone loves it. I like it but it’s the only wood stain anywhere on the house and we get paperwasps nesting, so I keep thinking Haint Blue but everyone freaks out. Now that I know the wasp thing isn’t true I guess it helps the cause of everyone-but-me.

    • @JamesABeckHouse
      @JamesABeckHouse  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@amyslingsby6947 yeah funny we constantly had/have wasps building nests on the blue then once I started stripping (with just heat, no chemicals) they moved to the opposite side where the blue still was. Will be interesting to see what they do next once painted the new color.

    Congratulations on being so dedicated in restoring your Queen Anne style house! Are there any plans to salvage as much as possible from the 1913 before it is demolished? It would be such a waste to throw away the surviving architectural features, and some of the antique furniture that remains like the Victorian marble top wash stand I noticed in one of the rooms .

    Am I the only one who, who saw $$$ signs in the other house. I sooo would need to have that Old Dame stripped out of everything, from base boards, lighting, hardware, windows...OMG, the list could go on and on and on. what a shame no one could rehab her, she is just fantastic. I hope you were able to get some other things you may be able to use in your home. Those fixtures are worth a pretty penny here in Ohio. The doors alone go for $600.00 and up!

    • @KeiPalace
      @KeiPalace 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm certain they will do some salvage before demolishing, we had a huge mansion up for sale from the Pillsbury family in my town, a wealthy couple had spent millions refurbishing it in the 00s, then left the state and couldn't sell it in the end they demolished (it was in perfect condition) ,we had hoped that at least the local historic society could have a chance to save some things before demolition, no go, the owners were that angry it hadn't sold.

    So even though it's slow you would recommend that IR paint stripper? Lead paint issues myself. Someone on Amazon recommended finding a way to attach it to a pole although he recommended Cobra for big jobs.

    • @JamesABeckHouse
      @JamesABeckHouse  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @eicrusade6161 I don't see where a pole would help since you still need to scape it. I added that spacer so I wouldn't be straining or guessing at the height holding over head and felt the size of the IR vs the cobra was a better size to the 2" beadboard and could scrape longer pieces there are others that are larger when doing siding and such but are alot more expensive. This porch wasn't that big so was a good test.

    • @JamesABeckHouse
      @JamesABeckHouse  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      carefully stripping paint is always time consuming. But would certainly recommend. Its cheaper then the cobra and did a really good job. I added the link to it in the description as well. amzn.to/3LHJceA

    • @JamesABeckHouse
      @JamesABeckHouse  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@moodyga40 both wires come out the bottom of the socket with a female threaded end which feeds into a hollow threaded stem (like a inner tube) for mounting. At least that’s how they were. I wish TH-cam allowed for photo comment to better show

    • @JamesABeckHouse
      @JamesABeckHouse  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There have been interested buyers myself included. But cost of repair would be pretty steep even for DIY the city is also involved so the sale has strings attached as far as progress/time frames. Its complicated.

    Hello! I live in Mt Pleasant, Iowa, and I own an Edwardian home... but the previous homeowners have done so much to this house it seems impossible to even consider renovating to the original state. So, I might not. Why do you want to utilize the fabric covered electrical? Wouldn't that be a fire hazard, like you said? Would it not be ideal to do something more modern with the wires, or is it more that it would be impossible to use newer wiring?

    • @JamesABeckHouse
      @JamesABeckHouse  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @SilverIntent Greetings from Fairfield, Iowa! So "original state" would be restorating, not renovating. The wiring is modern insulated the braided cloth exterior is just ascetic and just looked nice even though you'll never see it.

    • @SilverIntent
      @SilverIntent 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @JamesABeckHouse Ohh, okay. Nevertheless, really cool progress you've done. Did you have any broken windows, and if so, what are your plans for fixing them? If the old house is purely one pane of glass, vs double pane.

      I don’t see why window repair would be that big of deal. Repair parts including age appropriate glass are available within the state.
