Hi, unsolicited advice here. It would be really useful to insert stainless steel or carbon rods into the wall when reconstructing larger pieces of architectural elements. The weight of the material is going to cause a detachment and is going to break off if it doesn't have support. It would be a shame if it would break when you did such a good job in moulding it. You should drill several holes in the wall and insert the rods with glue and mould over them. The length of the rodes should be a little shorter than the width of the profilation, not counting the part that goes into the wall. Try a couple of hole depths and test it by hanging something heavy on it. Good job so far...coming from a professional conservator. Wish you luck in future endeavours.
I subscribed when you just had about 40. When I started taking care of my mom when she got sick. She needed something to break from the routine. I showed her your videos and she was hooked. It was one of her highlights for the week. I lost her a couple of months ago and haven’t been able to watch without her, until I watched this one, it was very emotional for me. She so loved watching young folks restoring a home and she often said how much she wanted to see it and you guys in person. Thank you for the gift you gave us of your journey and I will still be watching and perhaps one day when you’re open I’ll come see for the both of us. I just wanted to let you know how much joy you brought to our lives! Again thank you, Dion
Although historic interiors are my first love, I think the artist in me loves the pure craft of fixing the facade. Seeing something transforming from worn, raggedy and in peril, to crisp, beautiful and *new* looking, through pure craftsmanship and quality materials, it soothes my soul that suffers greatly in this fast everything world.
Caleb, not only are you an excellent craftsman, but you are a true gentleman. Your affectionate and grateful approach to your viewers is outstanding. You and Kim are a great team and a welcome antidote to some of the vitriolic political comment coming out of the US in these troubled times.
Do you ever wonder or feel that you are reincarnated from the same era as your house? The incredible love of skilled workmanship it takes to complete such an undertaking is just amazing! The best to you and your fiance'!
I feel like we're close to a tipping point where the pace of work/results will start getting more apparent faster in the next year. Although it was your commitment to historical accuracy that drew me in to your channel, I'm weirdly most excited to see you get you personal living quarters, and basement kitchen completed. once you have a kitchen, it will feel more like a real house! Are you planning on having a mini kitchen in your attic apartment?
Your talent and attention to detail are bringing this beautiful old lady back to life and thank you for allowing us all to participate in your journey. Life's blessings to you and Kim.
I love watching the progress of this house coming back to life. As an artist myself, I have really enjoyed watching you repair the limestone on the front of the building the most. The exterior stuff is fascinating to watch as it comes together.
Reviews like this are a good exercise, taking stock, celebrating wins...it keeps a person going when so much of our focus is on the current task at hand. It really is incredible how much you accomplished and I'm glad you took the time to reflect on the last 6 months and celebrate your victories.
It's so smart to let the building decide. It's always an uncomfortable feeling when one goes against the building. Totally serious when I say that. I am so impressed by all the work you have done and your perseverance with all of it. Patience too. Such a beautiful building. Glad you are taking care of it as it deserves.
I cannot begin to say how glad I am to have found your channel. As a born and raised St. Louis girl, it warms my heart to see someone genuinely care for our community. As I go to college I'll look forward to these episodes as a taste of home.❤️
You dear sir are a craftsman of the first order. You must have an old soul to be so in tune with what the house needs and wants to be whole again. Congrats to you both for getting so far in a short amount of time. Mr Brown would be so happy and proud of your work.
It’s so easy to watch you and Kim. You are so humble and genuine. Your love for your house is contagious. Makes us want to do something to our own homes. I will continue to watch the progress. ❤️❤️
Love mansard roofs!!! Designed one when custom building our home in Ma. In the early eighties!! The builders were so excited to build it…one man begged them not to put it on while he took his kids to Disneyworld…he didn’t want to miss being a part of it!!! Love second empire…you are working on a treasure!! Both of you be blessed!!!
Haha, the builder who didn't want to miss out on any progress is so wholesome! I think most of us who watch this channel understand that feeling because craftsmanship like that... Well, we can be pretty passionate and not want to miss a single detail.
Kaleb and Kim, that bathroom is a thing of beauty! Be very proud of yourselves cause you did it all!!!!Hope you two are well and ❤️ watching you and will continue till you're done.
Amazing work, Kaleb and Kim! Very satisfying to see the front stone work being brought back, and that powder room is stunning. More to sink ones' teeth into this season, so much focused progress seen there. Well done. Watching house flips can be entertaining, but with all the short attention span home renovation shows on cable, it's so nice to see someone do a deeper dive into the whole process, like the original 'This Old House' series did. Love all the time-lapses, YES, but equal time given to the details and small missteps. As someone who has restored a few old Victorians over the years, all that is an integral part of the journey. Looking forward to season 3!
You have learned and demonstrated more skills in the past year than most people do in a lifetime! You should be proud of yourself. Now, onward to the next season✌🏼
I definitely think it’s a smart plan to do the exterior of the house before winter hits and wreaks havoc on the roof more so .. once that part is out of the way , then you can finish another bathroom or the kitchen
I love it when people do speed ups to show progress. Like many here, I, too, have followed you since the beginning. You have definitely come a long way!
Congratulations on all the hard work over these past months. You are breathing new life into the house. She will be as grand as she once was thanks to you.
Wow. Seeing the entire process of the powder room restoration really drives home the amount of work you put in. There are times when creating 'functional' is the goal, but you needed to see your artistic vision through to the end on at least one room. The golden light in that space does transport one to another time. :D The exterior 're-sculpting', as I like to call it, is the sort of thing I would do (not really one for tall ladders). The sharp, crisp lines are bringing the facade into focus. You are kind, humble, creative people, and it's no surprise that appeals to those of us here on TH-cam. See you next week! :)
In a word: Outstanding! You guys have accomplished so much, imagine what the next six months will bring! I'm glad you weren't affected by the floods, I was concerned. My uncle lives in St Charles and they had a flooded basement but that was all, thankfully. Hope your pinched nerve is resolving, I know it's gotta be frustrating not to be able to dive into the next project. Like someone else remarked, it does my soul good to watch all the careful craftmanship you put into everything, Kaleb.
Your patience and skill is gradually being rewarded Caleb. Many congratulations to both of you on your achievements 🎉 I got quite exhausted just from watching this time lapse! 😂
The color matching in the bathroom of the tiles to the wainscoating to the wall paper was really cool because for those of us that have watched from the beginning know none of that was there and seeing the artist at work on the outside was cool because it shows other people what they can do. I once saw a house online for sale that was a bungalow that should have had all the antique features in it like pocket doors or stained glass and none of it was there - everything was modernized inside to sell the home - it was really depressing. If I was to go buy a house today I wouldn't want a recently built one I'd want yours! Lol!
Your amazing eye for detail is crazy! Truly you are the best restoration channel on TH-cam. I think it’s the artist in you. That bathroom seriously looks like it has always been there and is perfect for your house. I can’t wait to see what you pick for other rooms! Thanks for sharing.
As someone that has been restoring a mid-century house over the past couple years, I commend you for the work that you are doing. It's a grind, but it shows how much you care about your house and community. We need more people like you.
It’s been fun to see everything you’ve done these last 6 months and I’m excited for the next! The level of detail and craftsmanship is very impressive.
I really enjoyed watching your 6 months work. I want you to know just how much I enjoy and look forward to your programs each week. Can't wait for season 3.
I am 72 years old and have worked with my hands all my life. You do very very impressive work. What you did to that exterior window is borderline miraculous!! If I was a wealthy man I would give you a truck load of money, I am sure you could use it. You are the perfect couple for this project. Congratulations on your engagement, you have found a true prize in each other. Much love and respect for both of you. Art from Ohio
Watching you reconstruct the front of your house is so rewarding! 🥰 I can only imagine how you must feel. Every time we are in STL I say to my husband and family “I want to drive by Kaleb’s and Kim’s house!”. Of course, we never have, but maybe one day. 🤷♀️
Thank you! I most definitely will one day! We are usually heading straight to a Cardinals game. We haven’t done an entire weekend this year. We’re only 2 hours away in the Effingham, IL area for the last 6.5 years so we do quick trips. We are from the Peoria, IL area and that use to take us more like 3-3.5 hours so we would make a weekend of it.
I really appreciate that you guys didn’t just paint everything white and make it a “modern historic” home but you restored it to the way it would have looked when it was first built. I love it!
Kaleb & Kim, congratulations on the progress so far! It has been amazing to see how far you have come. Hoping the Mansard isn't too horrible, restoring that fascade will be a crowning achievement!
sooo satisfying watching the exterior facade get fixed! I'm impressed there's a product out there that can mimic the stone finish! Keep going I love these videos!
I feel so fortunate & spoiled to be able to watch the two of you bring your beautiful, grand home back to life! Having grown up in a home where my father was always updating, expanding and repairing our house, ( myself and my 6 siblings were all required to contribute), it doesn’t even come close in comparison to what you’re both doing! To say the least, you certainly found your calling! Congratulations on your engagement!!
Wow!!! All of the work you guys have done is remarkable!! I have been a silent viewer but I have to say that powder room truly is like a time machine, SO BEAUTIFUL AHHH!!! I love the tile work and how much care you put into the color and mood of the room/rooms and I cannot stress enough how excited I am to see all of it come together! And that limestone work?! It was so therapeutic to watch, thank you so much for recording your journey for all of us to appreciate! This really is like out of a dream! I know your guys' house us definitely going be one of the biggest inspirations and one of my absolute faves for me to gush over haha, take care and congratulations on the engagement!!! ✨✨
Just fabulous!!! The details are really nice & it's wonderful that u are putting such attention to every aspect of detail while taking care of the big stuff at the same time it's just amazing!!
I enjoy your channel so much. You treat your beautiful home with the same love, care and tenderness that one would find in someone caring for an elderly relative. It's actually a beautiful thing!
@@The2ndEmpireStrikesBack You realize you started something here, right? You've spoiled us and now we're going to expect a time lapse compilation for _every_ future project. It is so satisfying to watch the bathroom restoration from start to finish in a single episode!
I can see so much change in that house from the start of the restoration to now. You guys are doing an amazing job at bringing the life back to that house.
Oh! That was SO much fun! Having watched ( almost) every painstaking moment for one little room from " OK now we REALLY need a floor " to hanging up the last crystals on the wall sconce. Delicious 😋. The incredible job you've done on the stone front. Wow. I drool over the furniture pieces you've acquired ( good thing I'm not near by). I hope Miss Kim catches the bug for upholstery. I get inspired watching the amazing work the artisans do on some of the pieces Sarah (What's- her-name from Canada) brings to her upholsterer. Good luck, good health and God bless you guys. Thank you
You are doing a fantastic job. I’m reminded that I meant to write a comment some vids ago. The side yard will be beautiful. I thought it would be so cool, if you could make little decorative walls on the old foundation, if you make a Victorian garden. Perhaps include a water feature. I’m a dreamer and I can certainly picture how beautiful your whole place will be. Kudos for your perseverance.
*Wow a great reminder to what you have all done over the past year or so. You have come a long way in such a short time. No matter what, you never gave up and found a way around each problem/issue that you guys came up across. Roll on to the next season with you all.*
I bet if Mr Brown could come back just for a moment, he would be honored to shake your hand. What an amazing job you have done in just 6 little months. (And your honeydew)!
Hi, Kaleb! I’m glad to know you and Kim and the dogs and the house are all staying dry and safe. I’m excited your new season is starting so quickly! Can’t wait to see what you transform next!🌸
Kaleb, you are a man of all trades. If you don’t know the proper historical method of restoring, you research it and become a a craftsman of each project you do. I enjoyed watching the time lapse of the Transformation of the powder room and facade! Watching it weekly is enjoyable, and the recap is so satisfying. The shot of the room with sun rays coming through your beautiful windows , showing the elegance of your period appropriate furniture was a glimpse of how The Brown’s lived. As I’ve said from the beginning, I believe you have an old soul combined with your work ethics, passion for restoring this house that was close to being lost forever, and your love for Kim that is my cup of sunshine weekly. I think of Kim often too, knowing she is your support & has her own skills in working on projects AND planning your upcoming wedding!
This house is so lucky to have you and Kim to bring it back to life. I get tired just watching you. It's one of the few time I wish I were young again. I'm so happy for you that you are getting to live your dream early. You guys are an inspiration to many! The front's looking great and that bath is amazing.
The plastering job was down right relaxing to watch! So fulfilling. You've done an outstanding job. Something tells me the limestone plaster is much healthier for the environment too. Great job!
My goodness! You have played such a major role in the history of this home! It would of been done for had you not stepped in to revitalized it and bring it back to an honorable state! Thank you for recording such a monumental transformation for such a historic home. Awesome to see!
Wow, that really was a big season. I feel like things are going to start going faster on the outside now that you've perfected your skills. Can't wait to see what the next season brings.
I just binged what you guys have been doing and this is so amazing. It's been kind of bittersweet to see such loving restoration being done as my father had a house in the Shaw neighborhood with the same kind of amazing history and story but instead let it decay further in neglect. I really hope someone like you buys it some day so it too can come back to it's beauty.
You have to master so many skills to do this. If more people would skip university and start restoring old houses like this, we would have a beautiful country again. And have a population that provides many useful skills.
Kaleb, you and Kim have accomplished soooo much in the last six months, I hope that you realize. Of course you would start with the most difficult room. So many details and so little room to work. The limestone repair is truly art. Congratulations on your engagement. Best wishes for the next six months, I'll be watching faithfully.
Thank you all for your support. Here is the link to our Patreon that many of you have asked for: www.patreon.com/thesecondempirestrikesback

💔So sorry Dion for the loss of your Mom. ❤️So glad you were blessed to care for her and share with her these amazing adventures❣️❣️❣️
Hey Dion, your comment really touched me. Sorry for the loss of your mum, so glad you found something to keep her mind entertained and positive. ❤
Sorry for your loss. Bless you for spending the time with her and taking care of her.
😢 😊I have mixed emotions reading this… Sorry for the lost of your mom~happy for the time and moments you two shared. Continue to stay positive!
God bless you sir, I'm so sorry for your loss. I wish you healing and peace, I'll watch with you.

Your doing a great job for a beginner. I sure couldn't . Learning lots of cool things. So fun to watch you.
fun to find restorers matching my taste, powder room is magnifique
The façade is aging in reverse!
If you like a slow moving project, do i have one for you.
Caleb, not only are you an excellent craftsman, but you are a true gentleman. Your affectionate and grateful approach to your viewers is outstanding. You and Kim are a great team and a welcome antidote to some of the vitriolic political comment coming out of the US in these troubled times.
So glad to see a new post in light of St Louis floods. I hope you, your family and your neighborhood are Ok.

Yeah, that basement was pretty creepy so it's nice to see it being renovated with a kitchen no less. Great.

Hey all the new people got to see what we been watching for the last year and a half. Great video!!✌️🇺🇲
I keep thinking about how this old girl must feel. Finally, she’s being brought back, and in some ways, made better than she was in her best days.
Thanks Kaleb!☀️☀️

It makes me emotional when you work on the front of the house, you are making such a permanent fix. Love the job you are doing.
As much as I love how the powder room turned out. I have to say the restoration of the facade is my favorite project so far.

I forgot what the bathroom looked like to begin with. Really nice work!
Moderately hideous, and the floor was caving in too.
It is truly amazing how far you all have come. Taking this wreck of a house to make it a home. Really amazing! Good job stay safe.
Hey! Fellow Missourian here. I just bought a 1915 home in Jefferson city. You have given me so much inspiration!
Where do we see pictures of 1915 home? LOL!
I love watching you recreate the limestone features on the outside of the house.
This video was done so amazingly. Thank you for all your hard work and continued efforts. This poor house was waiting for you guts to come save it.
Thank you so much!
Thank you
You bring out our creativity . Thank you
Looking good, guys! She’s coming along so well. 😍
Great idea!
This man with his tiny army is restoring a home that took many many craftsmen to do.
You’re a beast man!
Hell of a job Kaleb and Kim!
Looking forward to season 3!
If nothing else; the tenacity you guys in getting your 2nd Empire to rights, really hits home for me.
rubble to ritz that is really funny great job
Love it all but the limestone restoration is so fun to watch!
As always fantastic to watch both Kaleb and Kim have done a excellent job.Your progress has been amazing to watch congratulations 👏.👍
Excellent powder room… so very beautifully done in keeping with the era.
So very well done Kaleb and Kim. Also, a sweet engagement too.
Thank you for letting us come and be a part of your wonderful journey.
The most ambitious couple I've ever seen. Where do you get the energy
I am so thrilled you making this beauty beautiful again. The best of luck in the progress of your “mansion”
Thank you so much!
Good amount of progress. I'm excited to see the next 6 months.
You guys are amazing! Keep up the hard work and stay positive.
Wow, that really was a big season. I feel like things are going to start going faster on the outside now that you've perfected your skills. Can't wait to see what the next season brings.
Wow - you've completed a huge amount of work in 6 months - well done and thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
You have a super nice project, to find something that still has so much character intact is such a treasure. So glad i found this.
I love how everything was restored with antiques or replacing older renovations to something period correct.
This my absolute favorite thing to watch. I love your talent you amaze me.
You're an artisan and your attention to detail is a major labor of love. Congratulations
Great job over the past 6 months, can’t wait to see what the next 6 months bring.
you are sure doing a labor of love, and beautifully, I might say!
