That was truely amazing sir! I've ran lathes for different manufacturing industries but have worked mostly with various grades of steel. Watching you work all of that with hand tools and a guide bar was really amazing. Also the colors and shine on your finished artwork...it looks like hand blown glass. Thank you for the share
have you ever thought of making the Resin translucent and installing LED's into it to turn it into a sort of lamp? metallic colored yet clear enough for light to travel through it. i imagine you could make some pretty wicked Lamp pieces like that.

He probably has a deal with a lumber yard or mill: those places where they convert tree trunks into even sized planks of wood. They don't use the roots/burls, so he probably buys them in bulk for cheap.
If you go near water or a swamp and a lot of the trees are falling over and they're rotting you'll find all kinds of root structures even find some along Old fence bottoms Farmer's property or banded land all kinds of them and just got to look at in the country

I loved all the different shades of wood that come out in wood turning, that's my favorite part in a final piece. It's like looking at the trees history and what it went thru to survive so long. I really wish I were able to have a nice work space like Andy does... It would be awesome to be able to have a space like that in my home so I could learn how do all these super awesome things that he does. Although I'm pretty sure he's invested a lot of money into what he does and I'm more than sure that this equipment isn't cheap at all. There may be some stuff that isn't very expensive but the big stuff sure must cost a pretty penny. Specially that lathe, I've looked into them and the prices vary depending on what size you'd want to get of course. But I've also seen some videos that teach you how to make a small one using some wood and a drill. Soo I think that's what I'm going to start with for the time being, that way I can start with small projects and get some experience inn then be able to move on to a bigger one hopefully not only when I have some experience but when this whole virus situation calms down and the economy gets a bit better. Because times are deff pretty tough right now, so it will be a lot easier on my pockets to get ahold of some leftover wood and make a holder for my drill so that I can use it as a small lathe for the time being... We'll see how it all works out though...
