That moment when the problem you encounter is not that the wood is too gnarly but rather the wood isn't gnarly enough... Takes a master to see the beauty in "imperfections" and "flaws", and then bring them out as well as you do, while still being able to use "better" pieces of wood to great effect. Much respect.
Hey Andy, I think what sets you apart from other turners is the relationship you have with the wood. Your skill demonstrates you have clear picture in your mind of what you want to achieve. Every pass of your gouge is calculated and considered to highlight the color, texture and grain of the wood. Your use of resin was a master stroke. It took the piece to a whole new level. Simply stunning. Thank you sharing amazing talent and imagination with us. 😀
Andy phillips the man as mysterious as the stig. Would also look good as a pendant light shade over a dining table, I almost expected a big ball for the top to make the world cup
There are some a good woodturners out there on TH-cam. There are even a few really great ones. But there are only 2 genius ones and this man is one of them. Amazing as always.
Sorry, but the "genius" woodturners out there don't start with a piece of wood that has character then machine it until it's utterly unremarkable and then have to add half a gallon of resin back in just to make it good for anything at all.
I am always impressed when halfway through a video I am sure there is no way to turn the project into a work of beauty and in the end, it is in fact what I "knew" couldn't be. That is true artistry.
Hi Andy, just squeaked in under the buzzer at 1:30 am in Montreal. From stump, to cobwebs, to varnish to, Let there be Light ! Fabulous. That was great.
Hi Andy, This has to be one of my favourite pieces of your. The scorching of the edge before pouring the resin to give that black line is just brilliant. Thanks Andy and take care. Cheers, Huw
@@lxserslxne8188 You're correct, the wood is pushing mostly down on the tool, and the tool is supported by the tool rest. The tool rest functions as a fulcrum making the tool a lever. as long as you don't allow the tool to stick out too far past the tool rest, you'll have more then enough leverage to keep it secure. The other answer is incorrect you do not need strong grip strength.
Ah TH-cam recommendations are at it again. Never ever have I watched a woodturning video and now I've binged watched plenty of yours. Amazing skills Andy 👍
OMG! - I swear every piece gets more and more impressive. On a side-note: If you had been my High School Shop teacher, I would have been on a COMPLETELY different career path, but I supposed someone with your talent wouldn't be teaching Shop unless it was just for the joy of passing on that artistic passion you have. WOW!
Wood turning is the job I love that had to gave up on. I developed a weird allergy to bacteria residing in the wood, So I had to sell all my equipment and do something else. I still find joy in seeing the beautiful creations others do
Hi Andy, omgosh the lamp is so beautiful, and exclusive, there definitely isn’t another lamp the same anywhere in the world. It must feel great to know that you have created something that no other person can replicate, they can try, but it will never be the same. It’s a gorgeous lamp, it’s a work of art...... you and your family stay safe xxxx
When you got going and I thought: oh, he'll keep the rugged rustic look on it with the bark. And you took if off and burned it. I thought: the coronavirus got the poor man. Then, and THEN you finished and what a wonderful piece of art!! You may trick us now and then, but. WOW! Andy, you done good!!
Andy, I continue to marvel at your absolutely incredible artistic vision and artistic execution, coupled with exceptional skill as a woodturner. Recognition is also warranted for your skill as a resin caster and wood burner. Thank you for sharing your gift with the world, on your TH-cam channel.
This is amazing. All of your pieces of art just blow my mind. If I were to try any of these, it'd take me years what I imagine takes you about a week. You are such a skilled craftsman and I would gladly buy any of your pieces of art. If I had money. What's also really nice, and I've mentioned this before, but, the way you interact with your fans is nice. It's nice to see a creator who truly cares about his viewers.
Dear Lord it is beautiful! I am amazed and just realized how brave you must be to stick your hand into that whirling blur that is the open end of your project. How you can tell where you are working is a level above mere mortals!

After coming off an extremely disappointing six hours in my own shop, it's nice to kick back and watch someone doing it right. :)
I'm with you on that one, Garrett.

Beautiful. The same
It's like pottery, only with wood, pure talent.
There is something about watching your craftsmanship that is soothing and mesmerizing and intriguing. Keep up the good work!
I heavily agree with your statement, Jeb Ledbetter.

And ASMR
I both can’t wait to get my lathe and feel like I shouldn’t get one.
One word: passionate
Andy phillips the man as mysterious as the stig. Would also look good as a pendant light shade over a dining table, I almost expected a big ball for the top to make the world cup
I really like the half wood half resin pieces. They are my favourite! I love watching them come together.
I agree
I think it's the way organic and non organic mix for me. It is always cool to see how they " turn " out. 😂🤣

Yes, I wonder that too .. but then I look at 13k likes :)
Бесценная вещь. Оригинально,а главное, в единственном экземпляре. Мастер своего дела. Класс.

Not sure how this got recommended to me, but damn that was mesmerizing!
There’s something very peaceful about watching your work. Tks for sharing.
Beautiful lamp.....
Творческое мышление, светлая голова. Браво Мастеру! Видно, что руки прямые и растут из нужного места.
How the hell does that tool not go flying every time you move it towards that misshapen piece when you at first begin?
I think cuz it’s spinning towards him so the tool gets pushed down instead of up! But I don’t know
His grip still has to really strong for it not to kick thr handles up.
He's a wizard, Harry.

This one is totally different! It was amazing watching. I had no clue where it was going until the very end and it surprised me. It's so beautiful!
The shimmery silver mixed perfect with the light golden brown of the wood. GORGEOUS
It just looks so magical when it's spinning! Great job!
No words to describe the beauty of this lamp! You're an artistic genius. I love watching you "create."
Wow that's beautiful vase the color of wood & resin make the vase pop Great job

Dear Andy, This was a wonderful gift of creative beauty. Thank you.
