  • After getting a tip off a website on how to clean your motorhome grey water tank and sensor we thought we would put it to the test. A common problem seems to be the sensor not reading correctly as it gets dirty and this is one way how to clean it. Does it work?

We've got a 44' fifth wheel with huge tanks we must "slosh" around as well. We use the blue stuff in the states too. A kettle of hot water in the drains helps loosen things too. No coke, ants will invade. No bleach, too harsh on plumbing. The blue stuff has enzymes that break everything down nicely. White vinegar is also safe.

Good tip, I can definitely see the logic in how it should work. I had visions of the liquid squirting out like one of those geysers in Iceland because of the sloshed coke, like when you shake the can and open it straight away. I guess bicarbonate of soda/white vinegar would probably do the job too maybe?

I’d add “bicarbonate of soda” during the cleaning swishing around stage as well next time, it is known as a cleaner and neutraliser and won’t do any harm...I use it at home for soaking pans that have hard to shift baked on food & it’s really good, I’m not sure about the liquid washing machine stuff but I know if you use powdered detergent + bicarbonate of soda + white vinegar (does the same job as the cola) with a little bit of bleach then add everything together and it fizzes up due to the “ingredients” reacting together and gets into every nook & cranny. Look up uses for bicarbonate of soda online and you’ll see what I mean & it’s cheap too. Happy Sunday evening guys 😀

You would most likely get a better result with vinegar and it is probably not that much more per bottle, as long as you don't have a bunch of bleach or hydrogen peroxide in your grey water. It's just a more powerful acid than what is in the coke. I always have a bottle of vinegar for cleaning, a vinegar/water solution works great for soaking stove drip pans.
