Beckett Burner flame keeps turning on and off

  • In this video we diagnose a furnace that was rapidly turning on and off when it would try to run. We had just delivered oil, so we thought it might be a oil problem. However, when you listen you can hear the primary control clicking in and out.
    Make sure you have the power turned off before you replace any parts.

    Excellent video. I have an occasional tripping of my primary now. I have replaced nozzle,bled air from pump,cleaned flame sensor eye,adjusted ignition tips in the gun . My next thought is primary replacement .It is either original 30 yrs old ,or was replaced 20 years ago before I inherited the furnace . I use my oil furnace as back up to my wood furnace but I need it reliable . So I think I am going to replace the primary .Thanks for your video.

      Many times if the primary is bad, taking a screw driver and tapping on the top of it during run time will turn it off. We have a video finding this exact issue this way if you’d like to watch I will link it below. Thanks for watching!!

      11:25 is where we catch the primary by tapping on it

    I had my primary doing the same thing one time. I took it apart and re-soldered the joints on the relay.

    Nozzle rate of flow is based on 100 psi pump pressure. So your 1.00GPH is actually higher at 140 psi.

    Great video could u have used compressed air to blow through that tube if you didn't have accessible?

      @karenalston6517
      Not sure exactly what you are asking. If you are asking "can you blow through the nozzle line with compressed air" than I would say you can if you remove the nozzle first. But that might not get all the junk out of it, you should still rinse it out with some type of cleaner, like break cleaner.

    Should have known that it was the primary regardless.

      After I realized what it was it made perfect sense, but the fact that they had run out of oil threw me off in the beginning. Just trying to help others learn as we learn. Thanks for watching Jeffrey!

    How many seconds should boiler ignite after Beckett burner starts drawing oil? Mine takes Approx 12 seconds,,,is this ok?

      It depends on if you have an oil solenoid or delay on your primary control. But if you don't have the solenoid, it shouldn't take that long to light. Might need a new nozzle.

    Not the right primary controls to properly utilize the solenoid valve.

    • @BambergersInc.
      @BambergersInc.  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      That is a good point, we could have changed it with a primary that has pre and post purge. Generally we just replace parts with like parts on a residential burner because it doesn't make that much of a difference. But you are correct.

      @@BambergersInc. Well, maybe not, I believe it helps with efficiency and start up and shut down, less pissing off the nozzle on shutdown, and it'll also lock out after 3 resets so the homeowner doesn't kill themselves should it deliver a late spark, 15 seconds trial for ignition vs 45. Much safer. Those are my reasons, if it's not a solenoid valve pump I never install a fancier primary control.

    You should have told people how to determine what nozzle is the right one and how to find that information

    When replacing the primary is it plug and play or do you have to program it?

    • @BambergersInc.
      @BambergersInc.  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Most primaries if you go one wire at a time it is plug and play. Certain primaries have different settings you can change but will still work!

    You need a nozzle wrench.

    • @BambergersInc.
      @BambergersInc.  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @jefferybaker1998
      We have a 5/8" socket wrench, but in order to pull the two wrenches together to break the seal, it works best with a normal 3/4" and 5/8"wrench. Many are very tight. Would you have a different suggestion?

    • @John_Lee_
      @John_Lee_ 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@BambergersInc. nozzle wrenches are a waste. You're fine with 2 separate wrenches 3/4" and 5/8" like you said.

    That's a boiler, not a furnace

    • @BambergersInc.
      @BambergersInc.  6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @John_Lee_
      A boiler is a type of furnace...
      Definition of furnace according to the Dictionary of the English Language: "An enclosure in which energy in a nonthermal form is converted to heat, especially such an enclosure in which heat is generated by the combustion of a suitable fuel."

    • @John_Lee_
      @John_Lee_ 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@BambergersInc. You can find a lot of outdated stuff in dictionaries. NO ONE in the trade would EVER call a boiler a furnace.
