Man of the House - Jack’s Car Accident

While trying to get to the Indian Guides canoe trip, Jack Sturges (Chevy Chase) gets rear ended by some criminals causing a cut in the brake lines of his car. Resulting in him driving his car into the water.

​@@imhere2clownyourass348uhhhh, I do. it's actually a good habit to get into. why, well it prevents the car from rolling even when the shift lever is put in P. the best transmissions can fail unexpectedly and the car can roll. my father is the reason I use my e brake Everytime i park my truck. you should think about making this part of your driving routine. I'm glad I did

If they cut the brake cables then the e-brake should not work either. Only if they cut the hydraulic lines and nothing else but if someone's really trying to kill you they will make sure they take care of everything

somewhere during the movie in a scene not shown the guy to the right of joey mentions that he cut the brake lines clean/really well. the bump was meant to scare/startle jack and he reacted by stepping on the brake pedal which he couldn't do.
