      I've paired mine with a portable dac, oppo HA-2 which Z also liked it a lot on his review and the combination becomes magical. I haven't tried any decent desktop amp/dac, but I can only imagine the end result is even better than mine.
      I really want to invest in a good amp/dac but I'm already too happy with my setup so it is a bit hard to justify the expense.

    Just a heads-up guys, the 3rd-party sellers for the bundle look rather fishy. Strange email addresses and asking buyers to contact them "before ordering". I've read that there's been scams with that exact setup where they get you to move the transaction off of Amazon and run off with your money. These two sellers are also just launched and have no feedback ratings. I sent a test email yesterday to one of the sellers (selling the bundle for $350), and never even got a reply back. Just be careful out there.

      just to add since i also checked the seller (one of the sellers actually sent me a reply)...the payment to the seller of this bundle is through amazon gift card in which you can't identify the person. red flag already. thanks for this warning vince.

    • @RomanEmpireRSVR
      @RomanEmpireRSVR 7 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Without a doubt it's a scam. Anytime they are asking you to move the transaction off of eBay or amazon walk away. Just had a case with the seller moving his Xbox off eBay and paid through "PayPal". The shitbag sent an email with a fake PayPal transaction number. The seller assumed it was legit and shipped the Xbox The email actually said the funds were awaiting transfer but would need to clear the "refund" period of 14 days. Needless to say the seller never received him money and is now out an Xbox also.

      Pay with credit card. No problem - although these are easy to spot. As you said, key phrase is "call before ordering". They probably offer you extra 10% off if you give them your card details directly. So in that sense same level as Nigerian 419 scam.

    I finally bought these, I can't stop nodding my head to tracks I may have listened to on multiple headphones 100s of times. These are insanely good for their price point, beat out the T1 IMO.
    The Balanced pads provide a slightly larger sound stage with aggressive, punchy bass spikes which can be incredibly fun to listen to. You do lose the ability to hear different levels of bass with these. These are worse for games as well.
    The Analytical pads are slightly narrower however are far more natural and you can absolutely hear far more. Great for vocals and complex tracks . There is no "extra" bass as such you just hear all the bass which is lost with the B pads.

    Just got these and compared directly with my HD600, which I preferred over the HE-500 (which I liked more than the LCD 2c) and EL-8 Titanium. They're definitely more detailed in the highs over the hd600, but they're definitely not what I would call sibilant. Mind you I'm sensitive to the treble area. Still, because of the jump in detail retrieval over the hd600 - not just in the treble mind you, but as a whole - I think they're more fatiguing over time. When I say more detailed I mean you can hear individual instruments better, especially behind vocals. The "mental image" of the instruments is clearer I guess is how I would put it. Am using the A pads and it's being run via a Burson Conductor Virtuoso with sabre dac if it helps.

    If it helps anyone else - my opinion: The DT1990 sounds like a perfect mix between HE-400i & HD650. It brings all good features together into one enhanced package. (Own all three and selling 400i & HD650 now). HE-400i are the worst of the bunch to me - overrated. HD650 are awesome and love em but a tad too slow and less soundstage/highs than DT1990. Summary: I'd NEVER recommend HE-400i - I'd recommend HD650 for everyone especially for under $300 as they can be had for half the price of the DT1990. And I recommend DT1990 for everyone who wants the best of the best and has $600 to spend.

  • @nofreebeer

    Well shit.. I have watched this video and the T1 at least 5 times each. Really trying to decide on which to get. I really enjoy listening to my vinyl records on my hd700's. Movies with the HE-400i's and I play my piano with the hd598's. I really want these Beyer-Dynamics but all I can sample locally is Dt 990's which are okay but they have no place in my current collection. So I want to get these to pair with my jotunheim with phono for my classic vinyl. So the question is... these or the T1? Which one would suit me better for the separation of my classical records? Or is there still a better option?

    @NeoKronos44 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Just bought these through Amazon.ca. Z is spot on, I only differ by a couple points. Impressions below:
    +Couldn't agree more about the build quality - it feels like I just bought an Audi S7 and it just SCREAMS material perfection to me.
    +The band and cups fit like a DREAM out of the box. No fatigue anywhere for hours. I wear glasses too.
    +The sound isolation is just the perfect amount for an open-back - it isn't terribly leaky unless you're piping volume through them and it makes for great soundstage (not too much not too little like closed). Spatially I think they still lose out to Senn's though.
    +Bass is PERFECT with the balanced pads. You can hear EVERYTHING from something like the latter half of Massive Attack - Angel even compared to my full speakers+subwoofer setup.
    -The treble is super detailed on the Tesla 2.0 driver like what balanced armatures did for IEMs, but I'd say they're a little too much by about 2.2 dB at 6K-10K (if I counter it on an equalizer it's perfect).
    -Z wasn't kidding about the straight cable - it acts like steel wire rather than a headphone cable LOL.
    -I really dislike the sound of the analytical pads - there is more detail but it puts them all front and center like I was sitting in front of a center channel speaker. I think it takes away from enjoying the headphone's inherent flat signature. In other words, with the analytical pads on it feels like I was no longer sitting in an acoustic music room, but now it's more of standing in a $600 phone booth with a premium center speaker and bookshelves - they sound good but it's not really enjoyable. It's counterintuitive to buying the open back - like if this sound is what you're going for, why not get the DT 1770?
    Other notes:
    -Not sure why they didn't make the cable jack on both sides. Other brands do this at much lower price and don't sound THIS GOOD - maybe that's their reason?
    -My impressions are only based off songs in original FLAC version.
    Setup:
    Running my new DT 1990's through a SMSL M3 because my Essence STX ii died T.T

    Love Beyers,built like a tank,really comfortable,velour earpads,I have the dt 990 pros,just love em,they take a while for your ears to adjust but once they do,they sound amazing,give em time,why alot of people can’t get into 70’s prog rock,they listen to an album once and don’t give it time.
    Beyer’s are the 70’s prog rock,jazz rock headphones,have that vintage look of old gear of that era,best.

      @Immortal Oh man, what a journey I've been on the last 3 years. Turns out the 600s suck. I got educated. 1990s are by far the best dynamic driver headphones you can buy anywhere in this price range. 880s are just flat out better than 600s. If you really want 600s just get 598s and save the money. Veiled, muddy, no soundstage. Horrible for classical music.

    • @insederec
      @insederec 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Immortal First off, only ever use the Analytical (A) pads. The Balanced (B) pads just bloat the bass. As far as sound, 1990s are essentially as flat as dynamics get, with a very slight peak in the highs that otherwise wouldn't be an issue except a lot of headphones have a dip in that area, so a lot of media sounds a little harsh in that range on 1990s. I remedy this by listening to music with better masters and using a tube amp, on occasion. It's not nearly as bad as people say though. They're very fast for dynamics as well. Soundstage is nice and wide but not insanely accurate. Basically, they do everything well but nothing incredible. They're my dailies and my mixing cans. I haven't heard T1s but as I understand they're very similar.

    Z it is the other way around. I have these headphones and the ear-pads with the four holes are for analytical (More neutral sound). The other ear-pads with more holes (the ones you didn't put on the headphones) provide a slight bass boost (may be below 60 or 70 Hz). I can confirm that that is true. It is also stated in the manual. Anyways, thanks to you I bought these headphones. I hope they will help me a lot when mixing and mastering.

    • @jamesjin8839
      @jamesjin8839 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Neither.
      I own 660(owned and sold).600 ,DT1770pro, 1990pro. Normal day prefer ADAM a3x and its larger brothers in studio. The one that sounds the closest to my ADAMs is still the HD600. 660's mids is not as accurate due to people who are not in the pro field yet keep asking senns for a different sound. They really did nail it with the 600 years ago. But too many people could not appreciate and force the wrong way with 650 and etc. The 600 sounds just like my ADAM in the room with a little less due to being a headphone. however 660,650 all have some werid bump in parts that will mess with my mix.660s mids is much more colored than 600. 650 bumps low mids and mid bass which basically will make all you mix thinner and never translate to all system.
      The new DT series are good headphones. but only that. I love my DT1770/1990pros to death. due to me being a huge sucker for excitement, but just as headphones. They have some of the best highs and lows in this band of range. Sub bass is second to none. Even many company's $2000 flagships cant do sub bass like the DT series does. But that is obviously gonna make your mix's sub bass sounds lighter in final product. Same stories goes with highs. Treble on these phones are HOT. They benefit and have energy, wide sounds, detailed layer of depth(the more upfront or pushed back sounds) and placements of instrument within the hard paned L 100% to R 100%. But the excited highs, while mixing and mastering, will over compensate and make your mix sounds duller and not translate again due to the highs being hotter on these phones.
      I still love these DT series phones to death. But the purpose is more about enjoying music on these. When I try to dial a guitar tone but cannot use my monitor at late night, I'd still trust my HD600 more. But then again those aren't good in sub bass so I pull out the DT series to check for unwanted lows to get cleaner. But in daytime I'd still be with my studio monitors most of the time. coz with those you worry nothing about mids and soundstage.

    I just had these BeyerDynamic hp delivered this week. I had auditioned the 1990 in Hamburg last year.
    They had the balanced pads on them, so I listened with them for 2 days, then switched to the Analytical pads.
    The balanced seem to have a bit more bass. The analytical seem to be more open/airy. I think the soundstage is a bit wider with the analytical pads.
    And certainly more comfortable than my Oppo PM-3.
    I've had them connected to the Oppo 105d and the Parasound P7 pre-amp, if any difference, I don't hear it.
    I have not tried them straight off the Mac mini yet.

Honestly, these do get a bit uncomfortable after a four hours or so on the top of my head, but gaming and music sounds so damn good I don't care. 1990's without a doubt. HD 600s don't stand a chance against them.

    I just ordered Darkvoice from Massdrop and planning on upgrading my DT990 pro-250ohm to DT990 600ohm or DT1990.
    Which are better and worth it?

    5:31 this was a pretty analytical orgasm , but I still appreciate it.
    Great review, as always, & I take the occasion to remind the pairs I'd be willing to see reviewed as well :
    - Status audio HD2 (still my only pair, still enjoying them, it's been a whole year now)
    - B&O H9 that just came out
    - Focal Listen, ELEAR & Utopia (lol)
    - Prosodia Bora (cheaper) & Zephyr (analytical, ideal for studio monitoring/production/mastering), very serious engineering, they master Controled & progressive directivity, wider sweet spot, stereoscopic imaging & dynamic... For those I think I can help as I know them personally.
    - portable speakers like JBL Charge 2+, 3, Extreme, B&O M5... Don't know if you plan to do such a serie, if so it would be great & diversify even more
    Anyway, I'm looking forward to becoming a billionaire so that I can get all this shit, & broadcat weird orgasms as well!

      As an owner of B&O H6 and H8, and tried the H9... STAY AWAY.
      JBL bluetooth speakers are only worth it sound-wise at 50% off, or better.

    What about 990's ? DT 990 600 ohms vs DT 1990 250 ohms ? Music and gaming, which is better ?

    Damn.. guess I'll add these to my watch list.
    What would you say are the best "analytical", "balanced", "neutral" headphones? (taking a jab at the naming of the two ear pad pairs..) for no higher than about this price range?
    I have the HE400i, K712 Pro, X2, TH-x00 Purpleheart and eyeing the HD 650/6xx and Ether Flow.. but I want a pair of very analytical, accurate detailed headphones in my collection.
    These seem like they might be them?

    There has been a few of these crazy bundles on headphones lately. I got some Shure 215s with an A1 amp and 32 gb card for 103$ - the shures are like 95 on their own.
