I’ve got a 2021 3500 that I bought in Dec 2020. 23k miles and the mileage is getting worse. Running at 80 from Tennessee to Las Vegas it averaged under 13 with no trailer and just the two of us with some luggage. No power to accelerate like my 2016 powerstroke had. The transmission is such a drag that I almost don’t need brakes. Just take your foot off the throttle and it slows right down. Also, it uses three times more DEF than the Ford. The ride sucks too. Every little crack in the pavement hurts your back. It feels like grandpa’s old 60s pickup. I’ll probably trade it soon.
Truck was in regen during the review.... it’s why mpg went to 60something instead of 99 when you took your foot off the gas. I get ~19 mpg when rolling 75-80. Same truck without the bells and whistles. I like your content. Keep them coming.
Just so everyone knows...the Transmission in the Gmc or Chevy is not an Allison Trans...its a GM built trans branded by Allison....absolutely is not a Allison...it's a farce.
Eddie that ticking sound is a lemon 🍋 the same thing happened to me with my 2017 L5P and after many months of firing with the dealer GMC came back and said “ Don’t do anymore repairs in that truck, that noise is normal”. Normal??? BS!...Long story short I went last month and order my 2019 3500 SWD RAM Longhorn editions and I should be getting it next week.
G35_Mark_L5P my 06 LBZ had the same tick and so does my LMM. I have a diesel mechanic said he will do a full rebuild on my truck put it back together it will still make that tick.
KdougK yeah man I’ve put 100,000 miles on my truck with that tick I’m not worried about shit. We all know them dodges fall apart so have fun with them. I like dodge I really do but I drive one everyday for work nothing but electrical issues, it’s a 2017 BTW.
G35_Mark_L5P it will he shipped from the factory in Saltillo, Mexico 🇲🇽 soon hopefully. That’s where mine came from and all the new HD’s are built. Get ready for electrical problems especially if you ordered yours with the 12” screen.
The tick goes away after the first 10,000miles, the sound you are hearing is the receiver reducer banging inside the walls of the glove compartment, take it out.
Well worth it, I went from my 19 with the Banks intake and derringer to the 20 and the 20 is way faster because of the 10 speed transmission. I won’t do anything to this motor because it doesn’t need anything
MPG in my 2019 GMC 3500, I went on a 120 trip 65 to 70 MPH many hilly sections and got 24 MPG with the L5P. You can improve your ride by better balancing your PSI in your tires. I have people that ride with me cannot believe how smooth the ride is. Spoke with a guy with 2020 Chevy 3500 HD, and he loved the transmission.
What do you run in your tires? I have the 2020 AT4, i set them at 55 front and 60 rear but everytime i take it to the dealer for oil change they reset it to 65/75
Vibration is the wire harness it needs to be zipped tied away from body by transmission. My buddy's 2019 did it also dealer couldn't find it but he put it on a rack and found it!
I just picked up a 2020 Chevy LTZ TWO weeks ago. I already have close to 2000 miles on mine. My hiway mileage has been closer to 21 mpg's and my overall mileage has been around 19. Speed limits in my State are 70. One section of interstate is posted 60. On that 25 mile section I was getting 24 plus mpg. I have verified the dash numbers at the pump. I have also read about the vibration at hiway speeds and have heard that rebalancing the tires takes care of that. My take is that this transmission and fuel mileage is better than my 06 LBZ by a couple mpg's
That vibration almost sounds like the in cabin air filter isn't properly seated. Especially cause where it's coming from. Doesn't make sens why it comes and goes or stops and starts depending the gear. I replaced mine and it made that noise. I immediately fixed it, so I'm not sure if it would've done the same as your dad's truck.
I know a guy who bought the 3500 Gmc Denali pulls a 30 ft goose neck says it pulls great with a lot of weight on. He also has a CDL but he noticed while doing this gas mileage was showing 7.9
My f-150 has the 10 speed trans. I was told it takes about 4-5k miles for the trans to learn how you drive. It shifts so much better now than it did when I got it.
No such thing. You just get used to it. The transmission is programmed to shift at certain rpm’s under certain loads. Nothing to learn. It’s a program. Don’t let it fool you.
factory tires are always cheep, its automatic no need to worry about what gear your in, the extra gears are down low for towing , to keep engine in power range, beter looking than a dodge
I have a 2020 Denali with just over 2000 miles on it. The D Max is getting much better mileage for me than you’re getting. It’s been mostly 30 degrees or below for the past few weeks and I’m averaging 18mpg back and forth to work 12 miles each way backroads and city. The best 25 miles I have gotten is 23.8 mpg on backroads at about 55 mph. Have you gotten the nox /def sensor problem updated yet? Check with your dealership because you should be getting much better mpg than that.
That vibration is definitely not normal. Gotta be a heat shield in the engine bay or something in the tranny tunnel or something. Sounds something you n engine bay for sure. Crawl under the truck while it’s doing it and fix it for pops
In 2013 I bought a brand new duramax and after 20,000 miles I sold it due to all the rattle and shakes. Nice ride and great power but I don't think GM builds them like they use to
2007 to 2016 GM really went south after the Bailout. 2016 to present they seem to have found their decent engineering again. That's what I have noticed myself anyway.
Montanacfl I get what you are saying. I don’t drive my truck everyday so I could care less. But I would rather get 12 mpg pulling on a 4000 mile road trip to Glamis than 10 miles per gallon. Adds up quick
Montanacfl I’m with you on this, I could give a crap how much fuel my 1 ton burns, if I can afford a $75k truck I’m pretty sure I can afford fuel, if you’re worried about fuel you bought the wrong vehicle for the wrong reasons
Watch the Banks video on the engine changes... on the highway, on my 2020, running 75-80, I averaged 20.9mpg. And, the shaking is the pathetic CA roads.
The L mode just sets the highest gear allowed and is not a true manual override. For example, if it's set to L5, the transmission can use gears 1 through 5.
I hope you found that noise; that’s a heat shield on your exhaust system. Meanwhile I have 2018 - 8 speed SLT and I need to upgrade for my towing and now GM is put 6 speeds in gas 2500HD how crazy is that when fords have 10 speeds.
Hey Eddie this is Daniel Hudson over in Idaho. I'm big about drivability and having a super smooth ride. It sounds like you need to have the tires rebalanced as soon as possible and as long as they balance out all that vibration should go away as far as when you're driving
Allison 10 speed is a game changer if you tow. I have 21K miles on my 2020 AT4 and it pulls like a madd man. Shifting is very smooth and precise. I will never go back to a 6 speed.
WOW dude... GET YOUR TIRES CHECKED!!! Vibration like that is 99% of the time a bad tire or a bad tire balancing. Like a lead weight thrown off due to impact or bad installation. Or a sidewall or tread separation. Beyond those, it could be a bad driveshaft ujoint.
Why not hand calculate the mileage from both trucks? Comparing computer readings isn't accurate. From my experience I went from a ppei tuned 2014 ram that would never see over 16 mpg hand calculated to my stock 2018 L5P that gets a consistent 18 mpg around town. Best I've gotten is 21 hand calculated on a roadtrip to the OBX. Now I will say that the ram would get better fuel mileage towing, would usually average about 11 mpg where my L5P averages around 10. Also the miles til empty isn't accurate in any vehicle, car or truck, that I have ever been in so I don't know if I would put much faith in that. Not hating on you Eddie, I like seeing the comparison between the new L5P and your Ram. It is interesting to see someone's point of view that did the opposite of me.
Having owned a 17 gmc 2500. I completely agree. The chevys are terrible and unreliable. My engine started falling apart at 80k miles. The ford and rams are the way to go
You got to break it in for fuel mileage lol I have one was best thing I have bought in my life hands down so good on fuel blows the doors off any older Chevy durmax
Love the channel, but I have to agree with the nit-picking... driven both new duramax and new rams I thought they both drive pretty smooth, looks like the vibration is the road your on your ram would probably vibrate the same on that same road.
they cutting you off because you driving like grand ma looking at dash, pay attention to the road and drive, its not a dodge you dont have to worry about everything, it want strand you like a dodge if ya dont constantly check everything

Don’t buy a 2020 if you are using it for a Plow truck with a salter. When you take off the tailgate to put in the salter they don’t have and dummy plugs to seal up the wiring. So basically they have no solution and thousands of dollars in wiring is exposed to salt and snow. The cameras all around won’t work also. Complete bull shit By the way I bought a 2020 3500 denali. Over $100,000. Not happy and I want to return it. They want to charge me $1400 for a new camera to plug in to get the cameras working again and for a wiring harness they say to cut the connector off to plug in as a dummy connector for the power tailgate. Ford provide the dummy connectors for free
Kind of hard to compare a v8 diesel to a inline 6 diesel. Cummins is always gonna our do mpg. Apples to oranges
I love 19 duramax
Cummins motors are also broke in on a new truck, not sure about the duramax.
I’ll wait till they go back to Allison
I have a L5P highway I get 24 mpg that’s strict highway and my truck rides good better than buddy’s ram ,
Dodge guy driving a Chevy . I have this truck, best truck I’ve owned , I’ve had 5

Just a little tid-bit of info, all Ram HD's with diesel have 31 gal. fuel tank plus extra 5.5 gals.
so they have a reserve?
The 5.5 gallons is what they put in to ship the truck, not extra capacity. For 2020 longboxes will be 50 gal as an option.
At what speed will it shift into 10th and if I drive at say 45 what gear will it stay in?
Is this your new truck or is this one your dads. Just wondering if your doing some work on him
