Sang this song in 9th grade at All State choir ; they nailed the energy / phrasing of "over and aROUnd us lies" - I remember the choir director repeating that line with us 763 times.
For the beauty of the earth For the beauty of the skies For the love which from our birth Over and around us lies Over and around us lies Lord of all, to thee we raise This our joyful hymn of praise For the beauty of the hour Of the day and of the night Hill and vale and tree and flower Sun and moon and stars of light Sun and moon and stars of light Lord of all, to thee we raise This our joyful hymn of praise For the joy of human love Brother, sister, parent, child Friends on earth and friends above For all gentle thoughts and mild For all gentle thoughts and mild Lord of all, to thee we raise This our joyful hymn of praise For each perfect gift of thine To our race so freely given Graces human and divine Flow'rs of earth and buds of heav'n Flow'rs of earth and buds of heav'n Lord of all, to thee we raise This our joyful hymn, our joyful hymn of praise This our joyful hymn of praise
Fine work, very lovely and professional. It's wonderful to see the boy-treble choir tradition continuing. Traditional churches today, the Catholic and the Anglican in particular, have an ever increasing imbalance of women devotees over men. Maintaining the all-male choir tradition is one important way to encourage boys and men to participate in Christian worship.
George Gray I think that's true, or certainly was when I was a teacher at a choir school. The authorities (ie the Dean and Chapter) took a lot of trouble with the boys' religious education.
My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip-he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. - Psalm 121:2-4
Well trained voices. Taught to sing the consonants as well as the vowels. That is John Rutter's style. I have sung that song with First Presbyterian in Tulsa.
Stunningly beautiful and majestic. I feel the same awe when listening to the amazing duet Andrey Nemzer & Charlene Canty singing CANTICUM FRATRIS SOLIS, Such humility and inspiration!
right now we are singing this in choir and it's so not easy i know that i wouldn't have been able to sing this 3 years ago and it makes me happy to see there are such talented singers walking on the same earth as me.
Having sung this several times and being a fan of John Rutter this is a delight and a remembrance of my trip to London and hearing it at Mass. (Yes, we Anglicans also call our service liturgy 'Mass'.) And The choir gave William and Kate the gift of 'This Is The Day' by Rutter for their wedding.
This song is so beautiful. Like seeing the first cardinal of spring, its red feathers fluttering in the wind. Or a pond lilly blossoming at dawn, its petals glistening in the pale gray light (I am the account owner's daughter btw).
This is spirit filling.but how do I download it on my phone and play it later without being asked to connect to the internet.I love this.God bless your good works
This is wonderful song, and it is a good performance. The only problem that I have with this interpretation is how marcato it is. This song is meant to be legato. I have this exact arrangement in front of me as I type and John Rutter says right at the beginning in the piano line "legato, delicato"
This is a great song, and a great performance. The only problem that I have with this interpretation is how marcato it is. I have always felt that this song should be more legato, and sing-song like. But that is just my own personal opinion.
I've been watching this video for eight years now and still they amaze me. Just beautiful!
There is a reason we as the human race reserve songs of this nature for our most beautiful cathedrals.

For the beauty of the earth

This our joyful hymn of praise
For the beauty of the hour
Of the day and of the night

Sun and moon and stars of light

Brother, sister, parent, child
Friends on earth and friends above
For all gentle thoughts and mild

This our joyful hymn of praise
For each perfect gift of thine
To our race so freely given
Graces human and divine

Takes me back many years (60) when I was in that choir, wonderful setting
Some things are more beautiful than words can tell

Well trained voices. Taught to sing the consonants as well as the vowels. That is John Rutter's style. I have sung that song with First Presbyterian in Tulsa.

God/Creator/Redeemer inspired. Simply a gorgeous "folk" song to the Love for His and of His Creation. Thank you Sir John Rutter.

St Pauls London is one of the most magnificent and historic cathedrals in the world, and occupies a site which was a holy place in Roman times.
beautiful
My choir teacher is "Miss. Jonna Paul"... I think she is connected to this choir cuz' she is teaching us this song now.
This song is so beautiful. Like seeing the first cardinal of spring, its red feathers fluttering in the wind. Or a pond lilly blossoming at dawn, its petals glistening in the pale gray light (I am the account owner's daughter btw).

@xgmb45 The boys are 8-14, but there are also full grown men in the choir.
@grassseemsgreenergir hehe cool doing it in our local cathedral cant wait
@Ahpgujung, as far as I can tell, it has nothing at all specific to Christmas. In fact, it seems more appropriate for spring or summer than winter.
Amen
Best of best

@mahaliabnch There are a number of places by this name, but this one is in London.
Perfect pitch!

@angryjalapeno At my church we typically sing this around Thanksgiving.

This is a great song, and a great performance. The only problem that I have with this interpretation is how marcato it is. I have always felt that this song should be more legato, and sing-song like. But that is just my own personal opinion.
