  • Today we are taking a look at Cooler Master's latest gaming monitor. Dominic wasn't too impressed with the last one he reviewed from the company - but is the ultrawide GM34-CWQ ARGB any better? It's priced at £419.99, and we put it through its paces today. Read more in the written review: bit.ly/3OrpvYa

How many viewers have ultrawides already - could you ever go back to 16:9 now?

I am using an LG 38" Ultrawide and love it. Brother uses a 4k and I can see the benefits in certain usecases.

Just recently switched to the Gigabyte G34WQC-A. Very good monitor for the price (cheaper than the Cooler Master). Definitely a game changer. Games like Assassin's Creed Odyssey and Black Desert Online look fantastic.
But I'm still sticking with my 1080p 16:9 IPS for most multiplayer games.

I'm waiting to see if Asus releases a competitor to the AW3821DW.

I had a 3440x1440 ultrawide, an Asus ROG, until I broke it. Driving games played far better on the ultrawide than my 4k monitor, but other games play better on the 4k.

We've reviewed one of theirs previously, the GM32-FQ, over here: th-cam.com/video/kXKOZnp2BII/w-d-xo.html. but this one a lot more impressive.

Thank you for employing proper response time testing now - big improvement. It is still far too rarely seen given that people like Simon Baker from tftcentral have been around for so long.
Was disappointed though not to see testing across the refresh range. Theis monitor's predecessor used dynamic overdrive, which is actually very rarely seen in monitors without a g-sync module and even more rarely in entry-level UWQHD displays. I am left asking myself, whether this is the case here, too? I would not expect any VA of this format to perform particularly well at maxinum refresh compared to IPS alternatives, but good overdrive scaling as one approaches 60 Hz or even drops below it, would still be highly beneficial and level the playing field out a bit. GM34-CW is / was a good display for this very reason, although a bit expensive for what it is, too.
EDIT: To be clear, I am not refering to the so called dynamic mode, which I understand to just switch between the other presets. Actual dynamic overdrive would likely work at any given preset to different degrees. Every native g-sync panel uses it.

Thanks for the feedback - definitely something to take on board. Response time testing is still quite new for us so anything we can do to improve it is useful!

1440p - my favourite res - especially if the refresh rate is high. Not a bad looking screen - but there are so many available now - what would you recommend Dominic around £400-£500 ?

We've got another ultrawide from iiyama on the test bench currently - the GB3467WQSU. It's early days as we need to do more testing but the response times look fantastic for under £500. Full review will be on the channel!

This monitor cannot run 10bit 144hz in rgb full dynamic range, it cant even do 8bit 144hz it can run 120hz 8bit. I cant understand this, why make a QD panel with these problems ? i could only get it to run 5,4gbps x 4 no matter what I did. Ive ran other 1440p ultra wide with 144hz with no issue

I was getting ready to stop watching as i thought it was going to be an absolutely outrageous price, i was going to guess 800/1k at least.
I had to replay the video, seriously good price, i'll never be able tp get that here in the Philippines.
    We're lucky to get a 27inch 1440p for 300 quid.
