Mr. Batty, ASTOUNDING!!! Both the delivery, and photography. I'm saving this video for me, my kids, and my grandkids. Moreover, it is so much over-the-top as to be the standard for all other videos on this subject, or, for that matter, any woodworking subject, because of your thoroughness, and clarity. Your facility around lathes, and wood is underscored by both your humble attitude, and complete knowledge of your subject. Others, if you read "between-the-lines", so to speak, love to be stroked by others; you need no such bolstering; your work has a gravitational attraction to laud and praise.
In a nutshell (sorry, couldn't resist the cheesy pun)... Wow! Allan's videos are, in my opinion, everything a woodworking TH-cam viewer could ask for... a masterful woodworker thoroughly describing each step and technique in a true teacher's fashion. The era of free content has left something to be desired for production quality in most cases (usually you get what you pay for). However, this video was very well done, so thank you also Craft Supplies! I thank you Allan and Craft Supplies for your combined efforts and allowing us the pleasure to learn from you.
My hat's off to Allan Batty. An absolute master. I purchased chasing tools years ago and gave up on the process after many failures. You have given me the encouragement to try again. I can see that, although I did some reading in advance, I did not really have a clue-- however, in truth, he makes it look easier than it really is. He has the touch of a master wood turner. Many thanks for a demonstration of skills acquired in a lifetime of craftsmanship.
I love watching Allan Batty!! The work is finished from the tool. He represents generations of experience from the golden age of craftsmanship. No gimmicks, just solid skill and good tools.
Allen, I have never heard or seen threading explained and illustrated so clearly and precisely. Well done and thank you for being an excellent teacher. Best regards.
This gentleman is a fountain of knowledge and a mountain of experience. I cannot get past how sharp his tools are! I spend hours sharpening my tools and I still get chips instead of shavings.
Perfect! What a demonstration of these thread cutting tools along with the supplementary tools required to complete the pieces. A real pleasure to have again witnessed this master craftsman at work. Many thanks Alan Regards Paul
Very good and interesting video, thank you Alan, I will see if I can source the right type of tools and start practicing on some of our Australian hardwoods
I have them laying around now for a couple of years after trying to make some threads with them. It was a disaster thanks to not knowing what the hell i was doing, but after seeing this very very good instructural video i think i'll give it a try again . Good luck and i hope you and i can make these beautifull threads just like a real pro :).
Extremely helpful video - The added text is critical to our understanding and following the conversation, however the text "box" obscures the critical visual parts of the demonstration. One can more or less fill in what's being done, but being able to see it all would be helpful.
True mastery sirs! This comes from the age where people actually had manual skills. These are nowadays mostly lost and replaced by IT skills - programming machines to do the job instead doing them themselves as master craftsmen did in the past.... Btw how would one do these things without a lathe?
Great video, great teacher. What make and model lathe is Allan Batty using? It seems to be the perfect tool the type of turning I hope to do when my shop is ready.

As a keen amateur I've watched hundreds of TH-cam videos.
This one has to rank among the top three.
Many thanks,
Alan
Alan Simpson I agree but it ranks #1 because I've probably not seen the other 2 you've seen. care to share links? 😉✌🏼️
This is the level is skill I am trying to achieve. It is impressive watching a master at work. You make it look so easy and basic.

This is incredible!
It's amazing he did all by eyeballing the measurements. I was expecting a caliper to measure progress.

Now I know what my next lathe tools will be!
I have them laying around now for a couple of years after trying to make some threads with them. This is priceless

Btw how would one do these things without a lathe?
This is the difference between a master spindle turner and bowl turning hack like me!
Craft seu equipamento de trabalho é muito bom parabéns.
Obrigado
Very informative video! Thanks for sharing!

Where does one find these tools in 2023?
Is the Inside cutting tool ground from a blank? I don't recall seeing this tool for sale at any supplier.
Here's a link to the thread chasing set. www.woodturnerscatalog.com/p/138/5832/Mayes-%26-Warwick-Premium-Thread-Chaser-Set
Is there another name for boxwood??
Buchsbaum or Gewone Palm. Also Dogwood, but that's American Boxwood.
Also Buis and Buchs
to master cutting screw threads you lock yourself in a shed for a year and come out all 'screwed' up, and it went right by you

Maybe I need stronger glasses. I could not see any thread detail at 11.59.
