I watched this whole series, and you did an amazing job restoring that guitar. It's always a good thing to see someone who takes such care and pride in their craft. You would be a luthier I would be confident sending my favorite guitar to for repair. Thank you for sharing Nik.
That sound boost trick you do at the end of the video is something I do also, but I do it a slightly different way. I put the strings on and bring them up to pitch, then I loosen the screws and let the strings pull the neck heel to the body, then tighten them down. It does improve the natural sustain of the guitar.
Hey Harley, Thanks for watching and for sharing. Yes this is also a good way to do the sound boost and it really effects the tone in a positive way. You are welcome. Best Regards Nik
😊hey Petrek very good job ! I've got the same problem with my black Ibanez jem 77 fp( flower patern) of 1988 now i see how you do it to process😊 But my question is; what kind of solution ( liquid)do you use to set up the color of the neck wood ? I hope you understand my question i am french and my english is so far ( l 59 yo) 😂
Thanks a lot for your positive feedback Frederic. This is like a very common issue on this amazing Instruments. I used just stain nothing special. Best Regards Nik
Hello my brother once again excellent work you are deadly with those chisels great blending job. You did not a fan of those guitars at all but all Guitars love to great job.Nik❤
Great work ! This my favorite Jem model, never been a fan of the Evolutions pickups and gold hardware : whereas I am a sucker for a Yellow desert sun Jem with Paf PRO's. Having played one, this guitar is smoking !
Thanks a lot for your feedback and for sharing your favorite 👍You are welcome it’s also my favorite JEM but the flower pattern is also amazing. Best Regards Nik
I cannot see how pressing down on the neck while tightening the screws could have any effect on anything. The screws are going to tighten down along their preordained path. I enjoyed the video but not the best one . As always, excellent editing. Thank you.
Oh no. You have to press if you want it to set well. If you just turn the screws to pull everything to gether, it might work, but the screws could grab new wood. If that happens, it will be different. We're talking small differences, but since people are picky fron having 10's instead of 9's on their high E, these diffs matter. That's a thousands of an inch. It matters.
Those screw through the neck locking nuts were problematic on those thin necks. Not just Ibanez either. Great work making those cracks disappear. I can't wait until your next adventure.
Thanks for your question. Theses wood cracks were glued a couple of years ago. And this was made fine… I have just glued the tiny gap’s at the surface. This very fine superglue just pores into the gaps and when the crack is totally filled up you know that it fine. Best Regards Nik
@@LegendLength This was more a cosmetic thing. In the Video you can see how I twist the Headstock to check the stability before the repair. Best Regards Nik
hi Nik another fantastic repair and restoration! i wish you were here in LA as i would engage your repair regularly😊 As with your desert sun yellow JEM vid, you left the neck pocket cracks alone - is that because its just a finish crack? how do you diagnose a finish crack vs a wood crack? thank you!😎🙏
Thank you so much for your positive feedback Mate. You are welcome. Yes these are „Stress Cracks“ but just in the finish nothing serious. You can see by removing the neck if it’s also in the wood. Best Regards Nik
Thanks a lot for watching and your feedback. Yes that’s a good method but this crack was repaired before and I decided to use super glue and if you use suction carp this can turn out really messy. Best Regards Nik
I'd say that guitar has been previously subject to a complete restoration and repaint. Apart from the neck pocket crack (which are a known weakness on these guitars..) there doesn't appear to be a single ding/mark on that body. The headtsock decal also doesn't appear to be exactly in the correct position
Thanks a lot for watching and for sharing your experience and opinion. The owner likes to keep it in these condition which is quite good by the way. You are welcome. Best Regards Nik
Great job on this repair. I'm surprised that people who are still gigging these guitars don't just plug the locking nut bolt holes on the back of the neck and put the newer designed one on that has screws on the face of it but I supposes it would ruin the value of it. I also noticed that there's a big neck pocket crack when you were reassembling the guitar, was that only a finish crack?
Thanks for your feedback John. Of course you can use modern Hardware components but all theses old stuff is in a amazing shape and not necessarily to change anything. Therefore I keep it simple and original. Yes you are correct the „Stresscrack“ is just in the finish nothing serious and a very common issue. Best Regards Nik
Steve Vai prefers the TopLok3 nut which fastens right through the neck. The same arrangement is present on today's production Jem & Pia models fitted with the original Edge Bridge
@@ewm335 I'm just saying that if you were still using it it might be better to have it made bulletproof so to speak. I know what you mean about keeping it authentic.

I would love to own one of these original Jen’s for the value alone. But honestly, the newer ones are made so much better. Just the neck alone being a multi piece, laminate neck, with a volute, and dual carbon fiber reinforcement rods makes them so much better! Even in my RG 550 Genesis! I’m just glad that my Jem 7v is made the modern way!
Thanks a lot for your feedback and for sharing your experience. You are totally correct. The three piece Necks are much more stable and stiff. 🕺🏻👍I would maybe make a comparison Video about this topic.. in the future. Best Regards Nik
It would appear from the footage that at least one of those cracks goes all the way through the neck. If that's the case then your surface glueing won't stand the test of time. Yes your repair looks nice but it has no structural integrity whatsoever if indeed that crack goes all the way through..
Thanks a lot for sharing your opinion Laurence. These cracks were already repair back in the days and everything was done well I just made this let’s call it cosmetic finish, to have a nice and flat surface 👍Best Regards Nik
