    They are all 5 for the price of 4, with the exception of the EM2 and ESU passive radiator speakers. Some of the speakers mentioned are available in multi packs too, to save money.

    Very informative video Richard, and well worth your efforts. it takes a lot of the guesswork out when looking at so many. I also noticed some of them have plugs on them, presumably for a specific decoder. Is it something you attach or are they pre-fitted by the maker?

      The some of them come with plugs from the speaker manufacturers but they rarely end up being useful, I generally cut them off and solder them. There are a few speakers on my website where I pre solder on Hornby plugs so they can plug straight into HM7000 decoders

      @ Thanks, but the cost to ship probably pretty soon approaches the cost of the speaker(s).

    Great video Richard. My favourites are the ESU passive radiator for overall sound, but space rules them out often. The tablet one that you rated no.1 is definitely a great speaker, I’ve been really impressed with the clarity of sound and bass response is pretty reasonable. I’ve installed half a dozen or so of them now and will continue use them for a lot for customer installs. For steam, I’ll use the bigger ESU ones where I can, but will have to try out the 20x20 as I bought a few from you recently but have installed any yet.

    Another great video Richard, I have used some of these and get a good sound from them. Keep the videos coming very tutorial.

    This could be a long shot, but what speaker or pair of speakers would you recommend I install in the boiler of a Rivarossi 2469 #4008 21-pin DCC Ready Big Boy. I'm going to use a Soundtraxx 884013 21PNEM8 Big Steam decoder. I want the sounds to emanate only from the loco so I am not planning to put any speakers in the tender. Thanks.

    I bought your number 1 speaker Richard, put it in a Bachmann Class 40 with your provided sound and the speaker is fantastic, thoroughly recommend it. Just fitted one to a Bachmann 45, had to remove the fan on this and cut down the screw lugs, but again, brilliant sound...

    Hi Richard, sadly the EM1 didn’t make a cut. However, nice to see some decent speaker advice.

      I tried to keep it to 10 so I missed a lot of similar stuff out, EM1 probably should have been mentioned along with the EM2, brilliant sound but a bit on the big side so it can be hard to place

    Hi. I've been watching your videos comparing speakers for years, and I agree with you on that I dislike "sugar cube" speakers too. Luckily it seems there are better options now. I really like #7, the Megabass speaker. I usually get them in pairs (yes, a bit of sanding on speakers' carcasses is needed) and get them into the tenders of the Alleghenys and other similar locomotives. I guess I'll need to give a try on the rest of the speakers you mentioned in this video. Never heard one of those "passive radiator" speakers. I'll need to build one speaker tester like yours as soon as I get information on how to redirect the output of the signal in ESU's decoder tester from the in-built speaker to the external speakers. Thanks for sharing this video.

    Great video Richard, I see you removed it after my dig at a retailer ( Not you) selling the EM3. Your prices are extremely good I just wish Tang Bang would have an official UK seller for their full range of speakers instead of retailers being forced to import from the USA and paying the duty. Oh well.

      @roadsandrails  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi, I re uploaded the video so it lost the comments, wasn't intentional. The EM3 is an awkward one, I used to order a few but the place I used is now over $100 for postage, and they sell the speakers for close to my retail price once the VAT is added, you are right, there needs to be a UK distributor

    Great video. I have been struggling to work out which is the best option to upgrade a Bachmann Class 37/0 with integrated sound. Your website suggests a pair of 20x20 megabass speakers wired in parallel, but I did see one of your other videos where you used an EM1 in the fuel tanks paired with a second speaker on top of the chassis underneath the fan. And with some of the other options shown in this video, i'm even more confused.

    • @roadsandrails
      @roadsandrails  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The difficulty with this is that as new speakers come out there is sometimes a better new option, but it seems silly to take the old video down if it still sounds good, the EM1 will sound better than two 20x20 but its a much harder install, that not everyone can do. The smallest ESU passive radiator fits and is probably the best drop in speaker in terms of sound, at a slightly higher cost than 2 of the 20x20

      @@roadsandrails That's good to know. I'm not one of those people that likes hacking into expensive models, so having a drop in option is more appealing to me even if it's at the expense of some volume and/or clarity. I've just ordered 6 of the 20x20 megabass speakers from your ebay store, as i'm sure i'll use them one way or another over time. I may take a punt on the ESU passive radiator too if that's a drop in option and likely to be better than two 20x20s in parallel.

    Please can you do a soundcheck comparison again, like you did a while back? In my humble opinion, I don't like the 20x20 - it's too distorty for me. I do prefer the double iphone, as you said, much better since the firmware upgrade where you can adjust treble and bass. I'll have to order some of the others to try them out :)

    • @roadsandrails
      @roadsandrails  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I've never really had distortion with the 20x20, what sound was that with? I will do an update of that speaker test board, Its barely got any speakers on it at the moment!

      @@roadsandrails it is with most Legomanbiffo files. I do enjoy high end hifi so maybe my perception is a little more critical than most
