    Been stuck on R22 for ages, and now we got R26 at the office, so I'm watching first what's new in R25 and then I'll check R26 to get the whole picture clear! 😂 Loving your videos, by the way!

    I watched the Maxon intro to R25 and hated the new interface and thought most of the new features were underwhelming. Watching Chris actually go deeper and explain everything I had to do a 180. Everything was actually carefully crafted and very well thought out. Looking forward to using R25 now!

    The best part with nodes and capsules for me is that we can apply modifiers to parametric objects. A nondestructive and flexible workflow is getting closer.

      I use stupid single screen 3ds max everyday, and the new cinema UI reminds me of this; trying to pack everything into a single screen like Santa, Mrs. Clause, the elfs and raindeer all trying to go down the chimney at the same time.

      And when Blender took on this look all the Blender users called it fill-in-the-blank-ish (take your pick of any other program's "modern" dark UI). Don't blame this on Blender.

  • @HelloFabs
    @HelloFabs 3 ปีที่แล้ว +24

    So, for this lackluster update, Maxon will charge that huge pile of money for the update fee for perpetual users?
    So you can import... splines.. and have an interface that looks like Blender?
    Maxon is not even trying to hide anymore how little they care about this software.
    It is all about the subscription business. Keeps the users forceably hooked and their files as hostage, offering the least improvements as possible.

    • @DanLucyszynHinton

      I don't disagree that the R25 update is feature light. However, perpetual users will get an update from R23-25, which includes everything that was in S24.

      @@syntaxed2 caching, cloning, simulation, the object manager so it won't slow down when there are many objects in it, the calculation for basically any generator. So overall: everything. Coming from Maya, Max, Softimage or Houdini ist so frustrating, as Cinema just lags all the time. Just placing objects in the wrong order makes it janky and even destroys some functions. That's just ridiculous!

    • @loganpenciu7317
      @loganpenciu7317 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@syntaxed2 The biggest thing right now is feedback response in the viewport. The common workstation now has 12-24 cores on average. Yet C4D is the only DCC that doesn't take advantage. It really shows C4D's broadcast roots compared to Maya and Houdini which were always intended for some kind of large production. Everything is held back by the fact that a gaming computer with 16-32 gb of ram and a 2080ti or 3000 series rtx card is cheaper and better for C4D. But that set up isn't ideal when you want to use other apps that really pick up speed with more cores. I personally use a 32 core threadripper. Putting it down to 8 core 4.0ghz speed greatly improves my C4D performance. But when I render in AE, or do Houdini stuff it suffers greatly. So I end up switching the cores back when doing different tasks for long hours/ rendering. C4D is the out liar, and in my opinion that's what's really holding itself back. It's had more than enough features since they added the volume builder, fields, and the rigging improvements for bipeds. Now it should be about speed, responsiveness, and ease of use. Even Redshift has ACEs now. The only thing people "need" from my point of view is a random walk SSS in Redshift that looks right and Redshift RT to officially launch. Or I guess a big one would be Thinking Particles 2.0 or just a better built in system that's easier to use. $1000 JUST for X-particles is absurd. That's more expensive than the Maxon One Bundle and it's just a plugin...Something needs to be done in that department at the very least. Because Houdini is way cheaper than X-particles and it blows it out of the water when it comes to particle features, overall capability, realism, fluids. whitewater, oceans, fire, smoke, grains, cloth, RBD, Bullet solver, destruction, and art-direct ability. And it's pretty much just as complicated to use. Because if X-particles get you to 90% really fast. I guarantee that last 10% to really nail what your doing is going to take forever. C4D's single core usage chugs the viewport and you start to loose tons of productivity hours just waiting to see results instead of just making decisions. Insydium did a release of how to do a particle based countdown. Every episode is like 1 hour long per number even though he's going pretty fast, and there are SOO many steps, and caching, and re-importing, and setting up true-false statements, and it's all linear menu controls (instead of nodes) so it's not easy to understand where the relationships and rules are, and what they are effecting. And it's like "why is this so awful when Houdini does it phenomenally better". And then why does it still cost $1000 for a super niche thing that's overly complicated and seldomly used. Actually I guess a new particle system would be a bigger deal than I thought lol.

    Finally the mesh checker is not so "hidden" anymore. In a first moment, people are not accepting well the similarity with Blender Interface, but if you think about it, is the first step to softwares be less complex to new users that comes from other softwares - make standard all icons and tool names with the same function. I use blender once or twice a month and my first reaction was... this looks like blender. This is an odd move since I've always felt Cinemas UI is much nicer. Additionally, it seems the UI is focusing on single screen users, maybe laptop? One of the best parts about Cinema is how well it supports multiple displays(as opposed to Max for example). I have _nevered_ worried about viewport space bc all of my pallets are off of my main display. Do you all out there use multi or single displays? Perhaps mac laptop users are the core cinema users?

    • @manuelmzeller
      @manuelmzeller 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      I don’t think C4D users are mostly mac and laptop users. Everybody that I know that uses C4D in a production pipeline (including me) is on a pc tower with multiple screens. It seems like they know that these power users are customizing everything after first installing the new update. That is why the customization is also way improved. C4D is also known as a nice tool to enter the world of 3D so it also makes sense to cater to laptop users especially after first opening. To me it seems they are taking the best aspects of other known tools like houdini or blender which i applaud

    I've been trying to create packed condensation droplets using this blue noise distribution but since I work at real scale and the drops are way smaller than 1cm I'm kinda stuck. What do I have to do - enlarge the parts that need the condensation and then rescale them to suit? Is there no way to get the blue noise distribution to work with small scale objects?
    The push apart effector doesn't really do a good job because it pushes the clones on every axis, including z and I don't want that - I want my droplets to stay on the surface onto which they've been cloned but not intersect/overlap each other and the blue noise seemed like the perfect solution - until I discovered it won't work on objects smaller than 1cm. Seems a bit dumb to be honest. Does Maxon expect everyone to work at a 2 meter scale? Scale matter a lot - especially when you're working on stuff like condensation, which is comprised of naturally small components.

    It is unfortunate that at some point all software leaves the majority of their users behind or somehow isolated. I believe Interface or UI is everything these days as I expect 90% of users just don't know or understand or get easy access to 90% of the power/features behind the interface. Perhaps that is a key to user-base growth, more than the industry perceived mainstream benefactors each time.

      Well, I created a landscape object with 1000x1000 polys, made it editable and subdivided it twice for a total of 16 million polys. Then I animated the H rotation by 360 degrees over 90 frames and played that back in the view port with FPS shown: R25 has about 20-25% higher FPS rate than R21 at comparable view-port size but the subdivision took significantly longer in R25 than in R21.
      I have a horse animation which plays back at about 3-4 FPS in the view port in R21 and about 5 FPS in R25. I have not tried anything with a cloner or many instances but I wouldn't expect miracles. In terms of speed, R25 does not offer significant improvement over R21 from what I have seen so far (I more or less skipped S22, R23 and S24).
      The user interface will require some getting used to.

    When you're doing the packing of geometry is there a way to add a second geometry source? You did it with spheres. Can it be done with Spheres and cubes?

    Is there a way to create or edit your own collapsable windows? For example, I'd like to be able to have the Redshift Shader Graph pop up and down with a button like the Timeline does.

    Is there a way to use fields to control parameters in side a Geometry Modifier Group? For instance having the extrusion height or chamfer size be influenced by a field?

    Chris, your audio volume is low again. I don't mean to nitpick but after watching one of your videos, whenever I go to another video it's so loud I jump 5 feet off my chair!

    I was against the new UI when I heard they revamp it looking at it doesn't look too bad, actually makes sense, all tho not sure about the outline icons such as the deformed tab rather they fill in the icon colors.

    Lots of crabasses in the comments today, but they could have stopped at Ai import and I'd have been happy with this release.

    Thanks, Chris! Unfortunately your audio levels are really low! Could you pump those up and re-upload? It would be much appreciated :D

    WOW , R25 is huge update, like your video! can redshift or octane render out the HASH+BLEND COLOR,because it is C4D color blend ,not 3rd party rendering.

    I just got C4D Lite R25 and it doesn't have the "New Layout" switch shown and discussed in this tutorial. No way to switch back to previous interface/layout that I can find. Please help.

      I was able to load the "old" layouts then save them as a layout since "Lite" doesn't have the toggle.

    Is there a similar node to Xpresso's 'RESULT' node in Scene nodes please.
    If not how do we preview the output of function nodes (I tried console out, I did not understand how to output it to the console).
    Thanks.

    Looks cool and modern and as always the sense is the big stuff everyone is waiting for is still cooking on the stove with the chefs running about getting ready to serve it.

    The Adobe Illustrator import is incomplete. The question marks and the legs come in empty and were filled in the original. Will the Merge command work with .ai 2020 files? or does Merge only work with v.8 of illustrator.
