PGR Features that Would Translate Well into Wuthering Waves

  • After about a month since release and 1.1 over the horizon, I just wanted to have a fun discussion over what'd be some good ideas Punishing: Gray Raven would have that would translate well into Wuthering Waves. I feel like if they are able to do it in their previous title, what's stopping them from doing that in their latest? Either, way, these are nice ideas I hope Kuro would want to consider or perhaps they are already considering it and is in the pipeline. Who knows? I'm just excited for Jinshi.

      Personally, i want Vanguard to make some Ost for WuWa, cause right now the music is pretty good but not memorable. Imagine what could they cook for the boss fight music.

    For me, i just wanna see the same creativity for mini-games. I know 1.0 events are normally boring and filler, but PGR always have some pretty good gamemodes and mini-games added for version events, i hope they bring that creativity to WuWa soon.

      I thought some of the mini-games were fun, nothing like PGR yet tho
      What I would REALLY like is proper, well directer long battles
      Just making your way through somewhere with enemies on the way as the music picks up
      I'm a huge Ryu ga gotoku fan and those are always a blast, I can only hope we see something like that in WuWa
      And also more directed moments in quests, that delivery quest left me speechless at the end, it was great and I want more of that

      Pgr’s minigames r rly clunky. Esp the chibi ones. Actually my least favorite thing about the game. Sadly tons of rewards r locked behind it rip. It is what it is

    I still believe that we should really hope they never go down the gen 2 route in wuwa. The problem with gen 2 is that they remove the player-enemy interaction part of the game that at the heart of it all, that is what gives the game it's identity. Gen 2 completely ruin that. I REALLY REALLY hope they don't go down that style of gameplay. Their design of self triggered matrixes, super long s, double timestop ults completely remove the enemy from the equation in a fight, at that point u are just wailing at a target dummy and that's not really my definition of fun. I hope they use the new a ranks gameplay as a base to go off of. The new a ranks are hella fun and still maintain the identity of the game by having to still fight the enemies rather than following a predetermined rotation in which u ignore the enemy complete and do the same monotonous sequences of button presses over and over until the stage ends.

      Great take! I’ve been playing PGR global since the Luna patch, and it’s crazy how much the gameplay has changed. 2 piece Cottie is fundamental to so many next gen attackers since ult spam is so op. While it’s pretty, it gets kinda unfun after a little while. WuWa may develop the same problem overtime as new resonators are designed to be more and more flashy. They could remedy this by making long ultimates higher cost, or by making ultimates stance changers with cooldowns

      I do see your point in that respect because if we go in too deep with gen 2 design, it might devolve into a mindless hack and slash. A thought I'll need to consider in the future for sure in future videos. At the same time, I wonder if there is a balance to be struck with this design, unless the new A ranks are perhaps that balance we're looking for. It's tricky because personally, I do enjoy the feel of the gen 2 design.

      It's reminds me times, when zhongli was released and exel mathmakers go like "his ultimate is 2.13567789 sec long no need to use it, it's hurt your DPS."
      WHAT I REALLY WANT IS FIX CONNECTION ERROR. it's so demotivsting when u beat 97% of Memphis in wuwa and ping go 999 and you see how boss just casually beating all 3 characters and when connection get back you just dead.

      @@Smorticle There needs to be balance indeed. Tone down the mechanics that reduce the interaction factor of gameplay. 1 way I thought of balancing say stigmata in that aspect is make her arial atks not have I frames but u can use a special dodge mid air that if u land successfully ur air time gets extended. It gives skill to the playstyle and still rewards u for knowing the enemy atk patterns. Toning down the over the top skill effects is also important cause most of the time in pgr u don't see what the enemy is doing like at all with the new gen 2. We need to have a balance and I feel like gen2 a ranks are that balance being incredibly fun to play while still requiring skill and game knowledge to play well.

      So long as the main gameplay loop is PPC and war zone I prefer cutscene simulator over fighting the boss with gen 1 units. Maybe we play the game for different reasons but I find gameplay more satisfying with the flashy animations over waiting for the right moment to dodge.

    I feel like people under appreciate one of pgr feature.
    The upgraded default coating.
    I feel like having 1 coating with 3 variations for reaching certain Milestone, feels so rewarding and cool.
    Also the fact that It's free too, you just have to invest on that character.

    TLC does exist in WuWA you can even test this in the spiral abyss equivelent where there is a timer on screen, when a character uses an ultimate you notice the timer pauses and resumes after the animation.

    You could try sparing with Hue Lielang in WuWa (it is like Masanori ;our favorite punching bag, in Genshin Impact) to test your team combo. You could find him by teleporting to the northwest beacon on Loong's Gaze Suburb, then heading south across the lake until on your leftside you'll find a man standing in the centre of circular yellow flower field near Autopuppet Scout spawn. Hope this help. 🍺

    I think what they definitely should add are how they operate on coatings as well as Babel Tower. ToA is just a bit too Genshin for my taste and I'd love to see how much players are willing to hurt themselves for high scores.
    Another thing they should add is proper signture weapons for the vanilla characters, not just the limited ones. They're the best part of PGR design tbh, the sound orgasm!

      @@jaderabbit898 Babel would totally work great in WuWa. Kuro just needs to implement it at a time where most accounts have properly built teams. And while I love the unique weapons from PGR too, they would just be too expensive of an investment because 1 weapon is only usable by 1 character

      Babel Tower with the buffs hmmmmm, maybe, it could also work + having some bonuses from ToA. However, it being just Babel would wreck a lot of players past stable :O.
      I really don't mind it being genshin-ish. Since Genshin borrowed that mode from great bonus content of ARPG's as well.
      The proper signature weapons are already the custom general weapon banner!
      Having it be limited for every one of them would be too costly.
      Besides, the 4*s can have their own weapon in case they change lore wise into 5*s?
      Prolly, there's the overclock and the extra upgrades for resonators in future, yes?

    Why not just use the "Alloy Smelt"? for the dummies. You can take a team in there....
    otherwise, customizing the visual feedback options, I 100% agree with
    And in terms of changing movesets with ults, I think of encore. I'm not sure if there are more
    I would murder for a more expansive depths of illusive realms rougelike, with more locations and rewards.

      As much as Alloy Smelt seems like a work around, much like Towers or even Holograms. I think an actual trial zone option would be nice as it's a more controlled space where you can set the pace for very specific testing instances.

      @@luavawawu Personally, I don't think it's enough and it's still the same situation over having a workaround rather than an actual trial zone. Hard to beat an infinite HP dummy that can be tuned for attacks and wotnot.

    Agree! Especially buffs and VGS bangers. Btw there is TLC in the Ults.. I noticed this while malding Hologram. It stops the boss movement and the timer.. but it's a bit wonky..
    Some Ults have partial TLC only.. like Verina's Ult has a part with TLC, and a part without.

      I've noticed that we do have a time stop, I think? I'm just not sure if the buff/debuff timers also stop along with it. I mean, I guess this really goes back to the fact that we don't have icons to tell us. lol

    great vid! someone actually doing their research by comparing WW to PGR instead of GI or HSR.
    as Kanwar stated, i 100% agree that s on Gen2 is a problem, but not the only problem. Gen2 units by design also did away with the orb system by making sure they will always have orbs to infinitely do their rotation, and a way to rearrange them. if Gen2 units followed Scire and Empyrea's design it wouldn't be as bad.
    as for time stopping during Ults, i'm split on this in PGR because time stop also stops stamina recovery. WW of course doesn't have this problem because we can parry so i guess it's fine. at least for now.
    as for Norman, if we can have it in WW so we can trade for mats like exp tubes and tuners, that would be fine.
    as for Vanguard, i read somewhere that the studio was swamped which is why Kuro wasn't able to book them. but at least there were talks that VG will be working on WW in the future so we can look forward to that. and yes, the Lamia fight sound design was perfect. you can actually notice all sounds get muffled when Atlantis sinks, then goes back to normal when it resurface.
    and i'm also kinda disappointed with ToA. if instead we got Babel in WW that would have been perfect. it's great because it can either be easy or as difficult as you want.
    personally, i want to see a version of speed and execution skills in the future, let's say on Fractsidus members (or generally, enemy characters) if ever they get to be playable.

    I think the thing with Vanguard for PGR is they find a way every time to combine the character, boss, story, location, combat pacing, AND raw emotion of the chapter into a banger elevating each track and creating an identity across multiple genres of music.
    WuWa’s 1.0 music direction is missing that multi layered connection so whether it’s VGS or not that’s what they need to capture I feel.
    Proper gear presets, daily serum pots/dream solvents, SKINS, multi reward for basic domains/bosses to quickly use stamina, Eden Fest/Waifu Wars type event for anni would be great for community engagement (plus the character song and future coating) are a few extra minor things from pgr I’d find great once major concerns are hopefully patched up.
    I think a jukebox + music collectibles in the world like recent Final Fantasy games that include pgr tracks would be cool, but they have more important things to work on first.

    I only ask Kuro that at some point we can have a combat like PRG, it doesn't have to be the same but it would be nice if some characters were that frenetic,
    I loved your video, you talk about things that I had thought would be super cool to implement in the wuwa that the pgr already has

    I just got into PGR. I cannot put it down. It made me stop playing HSR. It's a fair and balanced game I feel. There is also so many things to do! I still can't believe that this was on mobile.

    I'm fairly new to PGR and I don't like the idea of Norman at all. I always miss the miner farming days, the bosses are too tanky for no reason making last stage a pain to unlock and gains are minimal. I have not acquired a single cub in 3 months (Around 2.2mil atm), so the mode feels underwhelming to say the least.
    Time stops fully in Wuva when any Ultimate is being used, so that part is already in the game.
    And both Hsi and Changli will have stances, so this is covered aswell.
    We definelty need more battle events, I know one is coming in 1.1, but that's not enough. Kuro please

      Bro noman is a late endgame content, you need 5 fully built teams (6 for the hardest)
      No need to stress it if you new into the game

      if you're new, norman isn't exactly something you'll need to focus on, if I were you; I'd probably just do what I can, and slap all the batteries I can place

      Me who played for 2 months at launch, left, came back and playing ever since: I don't play Norman at all. Don't enjoy most Kuro subsystem modes (PPC and Warzone are enough)

      I played for 1+ year, and still not able to clear 6 stage.
      I'm prefer they removed most of the stages just like PPC change in CN server.

    I thought all Ult in WUWA already paused the timer in Tower of Adversity, dunno about hologram, but I feel that Ult is already stopping time

      It stops time. As long as the character's ult animation freeze frames every enemy moving at that timeframe.

    The buff and status icons/indicators was something I mentioned in the in-game feedback as well. Food and one or two other things display in some form along the health bar. I believe debuffs (at least some) was one that displays on the health bar as well.
    "dorms/teapots" suck, f that sh** xD

    For me Dorm is not necessary, but having chibi cuties in a same time kinda nice to me. Personally i dont like building room, tables, ect. I just stuffing room to get points((.
    Dummy idea actually good.
    Time stop with "gen 2 character" good only in competetive parts like tower or tactical hologram. I see no reason using this mechanic. What i want MUCH MORE is synchronize character and bosses on different ping AND MOST IMPORTANT - DONT LET BOSS CASUALLY KILL US WHEN PING/CONNECTION LOST. In this state both character and mobs/boss/game timer must stop on moment of disconnection and restore all when connection is fine.
    About music - sometimes i hear good one ambient in a Inferno rider location, but mostly openworld have wery dinamic change of "in/off battle" so hard music like Lamia wery hard to fit in this gameloop. Yes, me personally and community want more bangers, but for bangers we need correct time, lore storytelling, character and enemy to show all conflicts and make good impression. Imagine no Lamia boss itself figth, no story, just a couple of corrupted and new Wanguard banger on back. Wery higt chance most people dont even remember this song.

      I feel like the ping problem has been pretty common for online games, especially the game where you need to keep the ping stable all times. It's also the same thing with PGR Co-op. If you have a very bad ping, you'll lose control of your character and your character will just standing there defenseless (so you can only hope your teammates keep the boss busy)

      More quality yapping. PGR im on c14 now and up to 100+ hours of just dialogue. But holy hell its good. Being an NPC in PGR is the worst death flag.

    Regarding the buff icons, they do currently exist in the Depths of Illusive Realms (roguelike mode). Also food buffs. It's kind of weird that they weren't more consistent with the buff icons.

    i mean if a ult dont freeze the enemy, you can use it to dodge some attacks.. and you can't do that in wuwa because of coop. i mean imagine how it looks if someone use his ult and the boss is frozen and both other players can still attack the boss, you have 3 ults to freeze the boss and this is stupid. if you say "good then the other way" to freeze both other players would be even more stupid ngl.

      Ngl, you do have a point actually. I've never tried coop, nor was it something I considered. Would look jenk. As I said, it's my PGR-brain speaking to me cuz of the situation with Kalcharo's intro skill animation making me think "oh yeah my buffs totally stalled" or something along those lines.

    You mention 2nd gen characters changing they playstyle during kit. That is already being done with Jinhsi.
    Jinhsi's resonance puts her in "incarnation form" where she fights with her dragon instead of her sword (sorta like Jiyan ult)

    Tacet discord or any farming challenges should have 8x like in PGR. Its so annoying clearing any of them over and over again.

As I understand a time stop does exist, however I'm not sure if the buff/debuff timers also stop as well, this might be an extension over the fact that we don't have icons to indicate how long these buffs go for and all that. That said, if there's anything else I missed or stuff you also want to see from PGR to WuWa, do sound off in the comments! Also make sure you fill out that in-game survey!

    Crit numbers being different are already they're lighter in shade though i wouldn't complain if they were clearer

    For Trial zone, i could say that boss in the open world are in some sort a trial zone but they are a little too fragile i guess, so yes it could be good to have a real one.
    Buff icones would be great for sure, their is already the food icones and the debuff icones so their is no real reason to not have buff icones.
    Crit numbers i guess, i personally don't realy care about this one but i'm clearly not opposed to that.
    We will see but i'm pretty sure Jinhsi works like a Gen 2 char in some sort, don't know about TLC.
    I'm not sure if i want a Norman type of content, but i want more recurent endgame, something that reset weekly maybe i don't know.
    I absolutly want a dorm system or something in the same genre, i realy liked it in PGR for some reason (not in other games...) Maybe because there was some sort of purpose to it aka free skins.
    And i didn't look at the music part of the video (stopped after the starting part about Vanguard), sorry but i'm tired to see PGR players ask for Vanguard studio and dismiss everything that is not Vanguard. I don't know what take you have on this part and maybe you are a little less annoying than others but i don't want to know.
    I personally like some of the music in wuwa and don't care about some others. I'm on the boat on wanting more interesting music/soundtrac etc... But even if i realy like Vanguard studio, i personally don't care if its them or someone else, i just want better music. Now if its Vanguard, then good but others can do an excelent job too.

    Just starting c14 soon. Every interlude, every chapter since c9 has been incredible. WuWa needs better story and music.

    I didn't even know Vanguard Studio existed until you mentioned it. I've been pretty disappointed with WuWa's OST, especially in 1.0 overworld. It's been better in 1.1, but it's like what your buddy said, this is all ambience (and ambience that isn't all that good most of the time, if you ask me). Considering i was full blown addicted to Lamia and other banger songs that came from PGR when i hadn't even played that game, i was wondering wth happened.
    I'll be pestering them non-stop going forward to collab with Vanguard on everything going forward. It's possible they didn't expect WuWa to blow up to this degree.

    I'm not a PGR player but the way you described Norman Mode isn't it quite similar to Depths of the Illusive realm and alloy smelt combined?

      It goes deeper tbh considering it's END END game that requires like 5 different teams and all that. I wish I could explain further about it but I would get carried away. The point is to have a gamemode that we can tackle that powers up some mechanic that generates passive currency for us over the course of the week that we can use for a store that would sell materials.

    Indicator for buff is such an integral part for tgese types of games but I also understand why games like wuwa especially Genshin refuse to implement them. Because it's an instant visualization of the power of a character but also it will make character that are weak even more useless. Especially Genshin, ever wonder why they will not implement a shield indicator? It's because they know Zhongli's shield vs any other shielder just has a large difference that it doesn't even make sense. People will see how unbalanced a character is by indicator. Wuwa can only implement them because we have multiple shielder already.

    You are so right about the music! I got into pgr because of the music first in the combat second. So for games all about sound the music is a bit of a letdown except for some boss fights

    iirc there was TLC in the tech test and cbt1 but got removed since it's desyncs the gameplay specially in co-op, even the slow motion after perfect dodges was reduced a lot and you barely see the slow motion in co-op mode.
    Also if they want bigger revenue they also need to cook skins for the game man

    I really hope them to bring Gen 2 animation, speed and movesets in WuWa. Idk why these global players always complaining about how Gen 2 are brain-dead like bro no one is forcing you to play that way unless you want to 🙅. Gen 2 characters are the reason PGR got most of it's hype. Bianca Stigmata, Lee Hyperreal and Alpha Crimson Weave are the reason this game has flourished in its popularity.

    is pgr similar to wuwa? i want to try it out but personally didnt really like wuwa that much, it felt like a hack and slash version of souls game, in which i really didnt care much of, i play souls game for the immersion, lore and environmental design. the focus on dodging/parry while waiting for the perfect moment for it just watching the boss do combo strings and potentially doing one or two hit shots to you on endgame doesnt do it for me. its a personal preference but if its skillwise, i like mh style arpg more.

    I really don't want a 2nd generation kind of kit, it's too flashy and you're only spamming buttons at that point. Even though I love Crimson and other characters, but honestly the later 2nd generation characters and the 3rd are just too much, so many i-fram and too flashy that it will take the difficulty out of the game. I don't really mind if Kuro still decide to make it, but please balance it out.

      As much as I agree with you on how they should divert paths away from Genshin in some design aspects, I feel like the pity system will be something that's on the list of "non-negotiables" unfortunately. It's one of those realities that made Kuro a lot of money in the first month despite how terrible it is, not to mention how Hoyo has gotten away with it for years.

    To me WuWa is dead. I am only playing it for the sake of combat because I am PGR player for 2 years now and that's about it. There's is nothing interesting about this game.
    There is one thing i think u missed here. It is the story. “Sticking to one's vision is crucial and it earns respect. Dark Souls didn't become a genre defining franchise by listening to casuals for fk sake. Hell even Genshin lowkey shows the middle finger to most feedback because miHoyo has their own vision for what the game is supposed to be. That’s why they succeeded in the gacha gaming industry.”
    The initial CBT1 gave every character time to shine. proper character growth in general. The story felt emotional and touching in many parts. As this game is set in actual "War time" situation, its brings homes tons of dark themes and elements. Just look at PGR's story ffs KURO. They created the best lore of the world they created, not shying away from anything, heck just read surviving lucem and Cinder burns. U know where this is coming from right? we don't even know the motivation of MC in this version of the story. He is just a plot device just being driven by the plot whenever it need it too. The side character never appear out side of any story quest or companion stories. Every one MC's boot licker, MC got a harem right from the start, there's a stupid prophecy about the MC everyone's happy now that their savior has awoken they can rest easy now. Is this really how war torn people behave like? look at the bland robotic side character we got introduced have no emotions whatsoever no depth to them, talking monotonous. In CBT1 every one was anxious and weary. no on trusted as a human being should when they meet a stranger. MC had to get theri trust back in the so that he can make friends with them and move on to finding his own destiny by their help. There were aims and objectives of MC which were driving the plot. Not the other way around. Crownless was reduced into a pathetic tutorial boss. no build-up to fight no reason for its appearance. In CBT1 he kicks everyone's ass and hurts yangyang who gets herself in our way protecting us and goes into overclocking mode. this was the build-up crownless immediately established himself as dangerous enemy. every thing down to the minute details were butchered. 90% of the story re written just please some coomers and casual mfs who never read a story. Ffs this story takes place in a war time yet the writers are shying away from the world they themselves created. Making story "soft" destroyed all its uniqueness and immersion. Empty husk of a story.
    The bosses exist just for the sake of farming and that's it and The places and regions exist just for the sake of plot and have no importance to them whatsoever. Bosses are null and void of character story and background. and we are getting new region and echo right in the next patch just for sake of farming for the new character ascension materials.
    The environments became too much genshin, the unique environments of CBT1 gone reduced to nothing ness. Just go and see the concept arts for the game and look at what got. Every thing is bloomy, colorful and vibrant as hell. there's no distinction now b/w genhsin and wuwa's environments. why is this happening? Is this what they learned after 4.5 years of experience writing stories and world building of PGR. Are they really that naïve and stupid? The musical landscape which u discussed are exactly my thoughts. so i agree with u on that completely.
    The cutscenes were completely eradicated. replaced with bland muted uninteresting dialogues. where every in non-stop yapping. The sanhua intro cutscene, the flashbacks of the past cutscenes, every character had its moments animated in CBT1. Are reading a visual novel like PGR or playing open world game? They learned NOTHING IN THE PAST 4 year. NOT EVEN 1 BIT OF EXPERIENCE FROM PGR WAS TRANLATED TO WUWA. story is the actual hook of such games that's why people are still addicted to hoyo games especially genshin they are the staple of story writing and world building that's why their games are successful. There are only two thing WuWa has over Genshin pretty animation/graphics and combat. Hell even UI is completely copied from genshin. They are that lazy to make their own stuff. i had written a review to Devs about 1.0 knowing fully well it won't change a goddamn thing in this game. eventually players will be exhausted from this game because there is no immersion whatsoever. I have lost all hope. and those who are saying that this the first patch or give them some time. remember its been over 2 years since they announced the project called WuWa and they have 4.5 years of developing PGR. there are no excuses. I don't care if anyone agrees with me or not, This game is already dead. empty husk of a game.

      Listen, as you said, they did have to rewrite the whole story in a very short amount of time, of course the story would be lacking.
      Can YOU make an interesting enough story AND cutscenes for ALL 15 or so characters in under a year? I think not.
      Just cut them some slack, they had a rough start, lots of bugs to fix, lots of improvement to do in story.
      They have started hiring lots of new people and are actively working towards fixing our complaints.
      Just give them some time, they will definitely cook.
