Great video.. just so you know, that tree is a cedar tree growing off an old tree that fell or died. We call that a nurse/nursing tree. The roots of the tree that grows off all the nutrients from the decaying log/stump/tree are left exposed as they make their way to the ground.when the stump eventually decays completely away the new tree looks very different as it looks supported by 'air' The Island is covered in these trees.
It was really busy that day. We had to wait for some cars to leave so we could park. It's a big beach, so it didn't seem too crowded, but there were people around.
Wow, I liked your video. Hoping TH-cam will recommend more of your stuff. I made the long trip to Side Bay from Langley a couple of years and now I want to visit this place. Bravo!
Hi from Calgary, thanks for the video. Do you have any more stickers? I collect them for my Nalgene water bottle. I'm looking forward to my journey to Van Island in May. Im up visiting family and friends. Can't wait!
it was early days on van.isl. and Fort Victoria had been built by the Hudson's Bay Co. who had been given "rights" on the island by the crown who wanted HBC to help get settlers to come ...A family arrived from overseas having been promised land if they came...Governor Douglas was there and told them where they could settle...but it was on the extreme northern end of the island Cape Scott/ San Josef Bay...undeterred the family set off and made it to their new homestead San Josef Bay...it is an incredible tale of surviving the terrain and climate and wildlife to establish their home...l read it in a volume on the history of the island... l can tell you the trek north on foot on trails if there were any with all their supplies etc must have been an epic struggle...but they were tough and they did it...HBC eventually lost their crown right to the island for failing to allow settlement except their employee's and buddies....

Thanks. It's so awesome up there. We don't have those in Colorado, but they are very cool to see.
Scratch the wheelbarrow and get a folding wagon. Beautiful scenery, thanks for taking us along.

I’m ashamed I haven’t given you one already… I’ll make sure to give you one next time.
Nice one! I was surprised how busy the parking lot was! But it looked like the beach was fairly empty (?)

Yes, I do! But I'm in Central America and can't easily mail you one. Sorry. I'd normally send you one.
When did you go to the island, and did you go through Port Angeles?
Hi, We toured the island for the last 3 weeks. Yes, we took the ferry from Port Angeles to Victoria. Thanks for watching.
@@Famagogo I thought I saw your van passing through. If you head home through Port Angeles stop by The Coffee Box if you have time.

Thanks, It's so fun to hear these stories of what people endured. And today the whole word stops if cell phones go out...
@@Famagogo the story may have been in West Coast Chronicles...
Did you guys just leave your dogs in the van while you went to the beach?
Yes, it was very cool and he was quite happy to sleep. I'm not even sure he missed us.
Can I bring my dog on the beach?
Not sure, I think there are rules listed at the trail head.
