      I totally agree. I hope it stays up for at least a year because I tell you what, I'm playing 5 minutes of this video before my own training and racing. Watching this really motivates me. It's like us "regular" people maybe things didn't go great earlier at work, or a bill arrived and the mood is gloomy, and I'm ALREADY coming up with reasons to NOT get out the door - sometimes let's say it's Tuesday and I was supposed to run, I might say "I'll just run on Wednesday !!". But watching this video will MORE LIKELY get me out the door on Tuesday. And this is why I love our elite athletes, because they may not even be aware, but they inspire some of us in extremely positive ways. I mean, I LOVE QB Trevor Lawrence and Baker Mayfield and Tom Brady before he retired. And those guys can inspire me some. Especially with like Tom he inspires me in the area of nutrition and hydration. But if not like I have a football game to suit up for {I guess I could play in a flag football league LOL} - HOWEVER, Conner does the EXACT same sport I do, so Conner is MUCH more inspiring to me that a Tom Brady. So I want to THANK Conner for his hard work and I hope he makes tons of money doing what he loves, and just let him know, he literally is having a positive impact on other people.

      @@moneyandvideogames Thanks - I totally forgot about that comment !! It's kind of strange the Olympics are over. I guess we'll see Conner in Falmouth ?? I wonder if Grant will move up to the marathon. One thing I will say, I think the marathon should be the first event, because the way they have it set up now, by the time the marathon finally starts, I almost felt the excitement was gone. Here in Texas, NBC did NOT show the marathon LIVE but instead played replays of the previous evening. It's 3 days later and I have only seen a few brief clips of Conner in the Olympic marathon. Yet NBC showed HOURS and HOURS and HOURS and HOURS of gymnastics. I mean I watched the "team" gymnastics and when it was over, I kind of thought it was actually OVER. NOPE !! I was wrong on that one !! Then it was another 4 days on "individual", but no live marathon coverage.

      I for sure see where you’re coming from, but I have a feeling in Provo this time of year it’s suuuper tough to find the perfect, safe route to do this type of training.
      Side note: Clayton’s face after that one car laid on the horn was hilarious 😂

    • @mustardseedsociety
      @mustardseedsociety 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@SimoFromOhio Well what I was alluding to, without being dramatic, is if you get hit by a car and you have Olympic aspirations, you aint going to the Olympics. In 2012 in Euless, Texas, I witnessed a lady get hit by a car. She was on the heavy side - probably twice that of a "petite" woman and when the car hit her, she was tossed 5 feet up in the air and thankfully she lived, but her leg was totally messed up. I pray to GOD this day she was able to keep her leg. This is 2024 and people drive while on their cellphones on. {I don't} I have seen so many distracted drivers out there, and I quit running on roads. When you run out there with cars, you are taking a huge unnecessary risk in my opinion. The bike lanes are a total joke. You're still out there with the cars. About 7 years ago I almost witnessed a tragedy with 2 cyclists. I saw them up ahead and I slowed from 50 to 30 and went into the left lane and they were going about 20. So I approached the cyclists one lane over AND at 10 mph delta. HOWEVER, in my rear view mirror I saw a car approaching in the right lane at extremely high speeds and this car was NOT slowing down - I felt very bad because there was nothing I could do. If I blew my horn, the cyclists would think I was mad at them - and also I had to just focus on my safety so I slowed even more so the approaching car could steer left. But the car kept coming at extremely high speeds and man oh man they nearly ran the cyclists over and the last few seconds before disaster the car steers in the left lane. About 20 seconds later I passed the cyclists at 10 mph delta and they were chit chatting with each other NOT even a clue they came within inches of death. So my advice, is do NOT train on roads with the cars either as a runner or cyclist. Use the bike trails or track or cross country courses.

      @@mustardseedsocietyunfortunately these are common training grounds in Provo. But hey, they do it for the altitude.

    • @mustardseedsociety
      @mustardseedsociety 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@banksj54You mean High Elevation. If you're in Miami, you're still at altitude. It's just that your altitude is 10 feet. The other thing that should be considered if one is seeking high elevation to train, is Density Altitude. Density Altitude is altitude corrected for non standard temperature with the reference being sea level - 59 degrees F and 29.92 inches of mercury. As you go up in altitude from that standard, air will have a predetermined density at various altitudes. But here's the thing - 99% of the time there is no "standard atmosphere". In order to get the REAL picture of what your body has to overcome, you need to calculate density altitude which changes by the hour. As an example if you're in Denver elevation 5280 feet and let's say the barometric pressure is 29.50 {that means if you dug a hole one mile deep and measured the pressure, it would read 29.50} and let's say it's 80F degrees, your density altitude according to a DA calculator tool is 8500 feet !! So even though you're at 5280 feet, if you go train on an 80 degree day, your body performs as if you were at 8500 feet. That's why I get a kick out of all these You Tube videos who talk about "training at altitude", but totally oblivious to what really matters - DENSITY ALTITUDE.

      I totally agree Jose !! This is perhaps the BEST video I have ever seen of top notch distance runners in their training. I LOVED those shots of Conner taking the right turns, because that gives the viewer a really good perspective of how fast the pace is. Of course in every race I have seen of Conner, Conner does APPEAR to accelerate around turns - now if or not he actually does, I can't be sure. But good grief, Conner is like a "running machine" - it's as if he's just "floating" - if you're not careful your mind will play tricks with you because Conner makes it seem like it's SO EASY to do what he does, and your brain will say "aw heck, I can do that !!", only for the other part of the brain to SCREAM, "in your dreams !!".

    I hope this video stays up awhile !! This is what I need to get me out the door to do my scaled down - YES SCALED down workouts. I find this very inspiring even though these 3 are light years faster than me. I'm really amazed how there is practically ZERO "huffing and puffing". And Ed, if you read this, I'll never forget watching you in the 1986 US XC championships in Waco, Texas with Pat Porter. You 2 became my favorite athletes {of ANY sport}. I actually did get to meet Pat Porter in person 1992, but so sad we lost him July 25, 2012. I'll just never forget you and Pat just tearing up the course {12K}. But Conor became my favorite American athlete {of ANY sport} probably 3 years ago when I saw him on You Tube in cross country at Oklahoma State - when he pounced away from Nico !!

    • @mustardseedsociety
      @mustardseedsociety 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      One thing that nobody ever seems to talk about is Density Altitude. Density Altitude is altitude corrected for non standard temperature and humidity. This particular workout was done on a colder day at 4551 elevation. So that means the DA was probably about 3800 feet {I can only guess because I don't know what the pressure was in inches of mercury on that day in Provo} The general rule of DA is heat will hurt you more than cold will help you. So let's say a density altitude of 3800 feet. In Orlando, were for all practical purposes we're talking sea level. So if the temp is 59 F on Feb 3rd, but the humidity is kind of high, we're looking at a DA of maybe 500 feet. However, if it's a warm day with high humidity, my guess it would have a density altitude of maybe 1500 feet. So no matter how you cut it, in theory, if should be a benefit to race in Orlando verses training in Provo. But it's not always cut and dry. I do know one thing - training at high elevation will NOT make you a super runner. Because the human body will adjust and readjust.

    why in the world would you ever do a workout on a road full of cars?

      There are very few places that are flat over large enough areas in Provo that don't have lots of traffic. Add that it had snowed quite a bit when they ran this workout (as you can see some of the sidewalks were not plowed), and there aren't many options.
      I have run the roads they are running on in this video multiple times even at night.

      He is protecting them from getting hit! There is no where else to run a workout like this here

    Hated you blocking traffic at times. Nobody needs to see Mantz look like he’s sprinting at 4:45 pace that bad.

    These are phenomenal athletes and to think that somewhere out in another country, there are other athletes who will run a marathon faster than the 2:09 they did in the Olympic trials. Incredible athletes.
