I have a 73 original 400 4 spd . being restored in FLA (Shipped it from Taxachusetts). Owned it forever and can't wait to get it back:) I had a 74 as a kid but sold it after 6 years and bought my current one in the mid 90's in upstate NY.
I had one exactly like except mine was a automatic.. I bought mine for 200.00 way back in 1980 from a female. It just needed spark plugs and wires.. No rust and never wrecked.. If only I still had.. Great cars. BEEP BEEP
It looks like you're in Tucson like me. Maybe Phoenix - I sure hope you're keeping it in a garage with A/C. Sonoran desert heat destroys everything plastic if left outside...

I had two 1974 Roadrunners. One an automatic with the 318 the other a 4 speed with the 360. Both cars were fun to drive. Wish I had them yet.

It definitely sounds like an aftermarket cam, but I bought the car with the engine already built. Sorry that’s not much help.
