Mark’s 1979 W72 4-speed Trans Am
Here’s a gorgeous 1979 W72, WS6, 4-speed Trans Am. Factory Solar Gold with tan Camel interior. Power steering, 4-wheel power disc brakes, and factory AC. Showing a little over 44,000 miles. In 1979 GM only had a few Pontiac 400’s left in inventory. They made the decision to keep these few remaining engines for cars ordered with the rare W72, 4-speed option. Likewise, if you wanted an automatic, you could only order it with the Oldsmobile 403 engine. This was the last year for the infamous 400 4-speed Trans Am’s. Out of the few cars ordered with the W72 option, even less were ordered without T-Tops. In fact less than 2,500 units which makes this a pretty rare car. This Trans Am will be selling at the MAG Auction in Mesa Arizona on Saturday January 25th, 2025

@@FrankRoma-lk7dx So true👍
Great car. Back in '86 or 7, I used to drive my brother's white w/ blue bird and same options. I even delivered pizza in it working for Pizza Inn. It was a beautiful car too. On deliveries, I sometimes had to park on a slope so I could dump the clutch to start it. The headers we put on it made the starter too hot. Good times!!!
They never lined up new
I think you totally lucked out, dude, congrats!
@@FrankRoma-lk7dx Thank you. I agree!!
Had a 79 exactly like this but auto. But traded for a vette
@@carlosgarza1962 Nothing wrong with that. I’ve had a few C3’s myself
WS6 package also came with bigger sway bars, stiffer shocks, and faster steering ratio
@@jeffb243 Good to know. I was unaware of the faster steering ratio.
@ Had 2 1979 WS6’s; a 10th Anniversary (that I totaled), and an S/E (Bandit).
@ Both are awesome cars. Too bad about the Anniversary car
I don't know how the fck you keep getting your hands on the exact car, color body, color interior and engine exactly as i was just wishing i had, first it was the red Judge with tan interior, saddle wood interior, now this trAns am ivwas just idolizing couple days ago and here it is, is pretty creepy how that keeps happening with the cars your getting, i was just thinking few days ago id rather have the gold transam over the black and i wanted it because i was born in 1979 and the gto i wanted because i was born in back seat of a 70 gto judge, it was pepper green, but i always wanted the cardinal red or orbit orange, which is red, but it is wild that you managed to get my exact 2 dream sports cars, and the trans am i was just thinking of likely around same exact time you posted this, and then you had my favorite gto and the same thing happened year or so ago with the gto, its very serendipitous and dejavu kind of thing 😮
Great/Awsome looking gold, im currently working on a 1976 T/A , i saw the alluminum radiator upgrade, cool, the Hotchis front sway bar, really luv the duel exhaust, ours has the crossover right under oil pan, i may do it like yours, great underside, video is top notch, also notuced black rear glass trim and im hopeing to duplicate a brownish/red underside and floorboads to ours, any idea where to find info on that color, im not sure what years came with that red oxide looking color..again very well maintained head turner. 😮
@@JoelCardenas-nx7vs Thank you! I got really lucky with the floor pans being so pristine. A lot of cars back then came with undercoating which is a real pain to remove. I think SEM sells the red oxide paint you’re looking for. Good luck!
I suggest using PPG DPLF74 red oxide epoxy primer for the underside of your 76. For extra protection and ease of cleaning, I like to top coat the epoxy with a urethane clear coat flattened to a satin level of gloss. It's close enough to the original color and will look smooth and detailed. That's what I use on classic cars that I restore that had red oxide bottoms.
Close ratio 4 speed?
@@geraldpatillo2319 It has a Richmond Super T10 in it. They do offer a close ratio, but I’m not sure which one is installed. It has good pick up for 250ish horsepower and cruises great at 75 MPH
Add a X pipe to it
@@geraldpatillo2319 An “X” pipe would be nice. It would probably give it a lower exhaust note. But the “H” pipe sounds pretty good too.
Please don't.
Upgrade to 3:55.1 gears with ams oil full synthetic 10w 40
@@geraldpatillo2319 That would definitely be a good performance upgrade, but I like how nice this car cruises down the highway
Had same exact car, wish i would have kept it.
I had one with the 403 Oldsmobile with t-tops for a high school graduation. When my dad passed away my mother’s brother got her to sale.
@@stevebecwar9286 I hear you. I’m not going to be too upset if this one doesn’t sell 😜

Beautiful Trans Am, thanks for showing! Do I see the "4 Wheel Disc" sticker on the door handle?
@@scotchbudmeister9018 Thank you and good eye! It does have the “4 Wheel Disc” stickers
gas tank being gold is a red flag, and the hood and trunk lids trim doesn't line up!!!!!!!!!
Let the man enjoy his ride bro. Captain correction. Lol!!!
@@nathanwalsh3028 he sells cars for a living
@@jamesoreily1472 I’m not sure how a gold gas tank is a “red flag”, but you’re entitled to your opinion.
Had same exact car, wish I would have kept it
A couple years ago I sold my 78 Y88 4 speed car. It was one of the most original left on the planet. Original paint and motor had never been out of the car. They were throwing these cars together as fast as possible. My paint was far from perfect and the stripes didn’t line up well, especially on the deck lid and the trim piece between the rear window.
Man , that is really really nice!
@@chadb9578 Thank you!

My dream car
Super cool . Id put the factory tach in and '70 center caps on the wheels ans call it good.
I dont like the 70 front end
Beautiful GTO, and it's red...but to be Bad to the Bone, it's gotta be Christine, not a Pontiac. :)
Hard to argue with that :)
please, for the love of god, stop putting music over shit. We all know who George Thorogood is. I want to hear the car. Just the car.
WHY Would You put the Wrong Wheels on it ???🙈

Omg
With a garage that clean I'm gonna say bought , not built right? Either way beautiful car.
That’s actually the garage on the house. I had just put the cabinets in so it was all clean. It doesn’t look like that today 😜. I have a separate shop where I do my restorations. This was a full body-off, rotisserie restoration, and thank you!
All rise for the judge.

Bore to the bone. Hit it!
Judge appearance package? Is this a real Judge or a GTO jazzed up to be a judge?
It was a numbers matching GTO jazzed up to be a Judge. It was a really fun car. I sold it a few years ago.
When George Thorogood wrote "Bad to the Bone", this is what he was thinking about.
I agree!! 👍
Gorgeous! Man I wish they could make an updated Pontiac’s GTO and not screw it up!! Like Dodge did with the later Challenger!
Thank you! If they did it right, I’d buy one!!
I was wondering about the Camaro emblem being on the inside in the Camaro fuel filler door having a Camaro emblems for sister Z 28. I have the identical car but a 81 so maybe they change those..
I’m pretty sure all the Camaro gas filler doors are the same from 78- 81. I think any of the emblems available those years will work. But, the ‘80 and ‘81 Z28 emblems were a little different than the ‘78 and ‘79’s.
Thanks. Lays rubber in two gears!
Awesome rebuild. I did a similar rebuild on a gutted track car. 454, Comp Cam .566, 2” Pypes Headers, exhaust, 3” dual exhaust, Turbo 400, Eaton True-Trac posi, 3.73 Richmond, Chrome rear end cover, Summit front and rear sway bars, Eaton front 454 Coil Springs, BF Goodrich 295/50/15”
