I didn't know about decay. Spent about a week without playing, when I logged on everything was gone. Then I just deleted the game. Felt like it was a waste of time.
hey bro, i love your videos. if i may can share a tip if u face the "failed to place building", u only have to do is to switch to another building material, and switch back, and u will be able to build immediatly. for example, in your video (15:37) u have building materials from 2-5, and u try to place 5 (black ice foundation), u only have to do, to switch to 4 (or 2-3, no matter, just have a building material there (no placeables will work) and than back to 5, and u can place it right ahead.
Thanks for this I’ve had the game for a few days and grinded on an official I knew there was decay but I did not know it depended on the amount of foundations so I could not explain my friends stuff disappearing.
Good explanation. Something I learned the hard way. One additional comment though, if anyone plans to be off for the two weeks or more pick up and keep on your character anything you don't want to lose, ie; artisan thralls, armor, weapons, etc. Your character can hold as much as a large vault. Wish I knew that back when I had to be off for awhile. I had a shop full of t3 & t4 artisan thralls and some nice legendary items I kept is a cabinet; all gone. The only items I had left were the ones on my character. This was a PVE server so no one could break my base or loot me but even on a PVP server your character doesn't render after awhile so you shouldn't be looted even after the base disappears. At least that is what I have been told. They call it body vaulting, I think.
On the topic of decaying and losing your stuff. I quite often leave the game for a month or two, and it sucks to lose all your items. I dont care about thralls and structures, but is it possible to at least secure your own inventory with the most precious items for more than a few months? Losing my whole improved star metal weapon and instruments set and full silent legion armor was a pain.
I just bought a server and it literally let's you customize almost all settings to your liking...a little tedious at first but absolutely worth it in the long run! Happy High vibe gaming guys🤙
Continuing our conversation for Twitter you literally just said it yourself. 15 days is the standard which is exactly what I remember to be but the maximum official servers is 160 hours in that range which equates to 6 days. That's the reason why I sparked the conversation in that tweet to begin with. Regardless of any excuse you can possibly come up with, six days is incredibly small. People have lives and the one irrefutable thing you cannot go against is the fact that people take a vacation that last seven days and that's a standard vacation, people normally take a vacation of two weeks which is why that 15-day Mark used to exist on official public servers. The entire reason why I suggested to revisit the official server Decay time, 15 days is completely reasonable. 6 days is stupid on a level I can't even understand. I invited someone to our server 1520 PVE couple weeks back. The guy built a really decent base in front of new asagarth well beyond the maximum time limit of pieces. Today I walk there to do my normal daily farming in new asagarth for steel and as I approached , the base exploded and all its pieces came falling down leaving floating thralls in the air. The guy took his family on vacation completely unsuspecting to the fact that this could happen. Luckily I was there with a chest and was able to collect the incredible amount of items that he took many days to farm. This entire system needs to be revisited and set back to 15 days, that would be my recommendation for official servers and if not do it for PVP servers, then at least do it for our PVE public servers. PVE servers are community-based, community-driven, we share with each other, friendly with one another and we have fun as a group, a completely different dynamic. Firespark thanks for going through all the details and showing everybody the Decay system. With your popularity and with your agreement I would appreciate it if you ran it up the flagpole. You have no clue as to how many people would be appreciative.
That's completely rediculousone had nothing to do with another. One is a policy enacted by funcom and as always tweaked are made as the game lives. The other is this idea and propaganda your sharing that has no official source to prove that. Let's stick to the topic. Use your energy in getting into the forums instead and write a suggestion to increase the time as thousands of us have. We're all playing the game we love. Together we make it better by offering suggestions and feedback and getting onto the PTU server to test upcoming patches.

Only funcom have these numbers. Great video. I wasnt aware there was this much to know about decay. A group of friends and I would use standing torches to mark a path to iron when we had first started out, but those torches would always disappear after a while
I wish decay was 10-14 days. Some of us work away from home for a full week (then boom everything gone) Also to stop spamming, create a cap stone in which you have to build around (which the first one is free 2nd costs a lot and everyone after that costs a ton of resources)
I know this is a old video, but I have a private small server and I can't figure out why there is decay at all when I have the server set up so there is no decay.
pillars and ceiling tiles are better to build with than foundations cause you can honeycomb them if you are worried about pvp, but a lot of pve servers require the pillar building style since the square foundations are lag monsters to servers
Holding TAB does the same as a hammer except for repairing, and building score although i don't think that should be there on official (or i have not used a hammer for a long time)
I wish you had this last week. Lost two pet pens and didn't know why. Had people on the server explain it to me and how to extend the timer through foundations.

This must be it. I started playing official PVE server on my PS4. I've builded my main base on Noob River and few outposts, one near Temple of Frost, 2nd near that big city with Conan bar in it and 3rd in the vulcano. I've builded a Map Room and I accidently teleported up North to Temple of Frost just to find out that chunk of my outpost is missing. I wasn't there for few days, but it's a kinda decent medium sized outpost. After getting back to base I've found out that my Map Room is gone. 2nd weird encounter I had is when I got back from vulcano outpost to my Temple of Frost outpost some spikes that were outside the most were gone and I wasn't there for a day. But when I got back from my trip to the volcano big chunk of my roof dissapeard. I had little bit pieces disaplearing after I travel to my outposts and stuff but daaamm. . Big hole in the roof. Tier 1 builds I quess. I need to make pillars and foundations that my base is on tier 3 no doubt. It will be a bit harsh to upgrade all my foundations to tier 3 as I've got a base on Noob River 100% on water.Also 2 iron chests dissapeard that were stacked on top of each other which is weird because the bottom one and other that I lined up up against the wall are still there. I was thinking that maybe server lost memeory of my stuff. There's allways like a big lag when you're more up North on the map. Or maybe admin or some1 is trolling me. This is pretty frustrating. I'm building my outposts only on most tactical locations arround the map but this will be frustrating when I'll loose rare loot or something.
@@torstenw5723 I just can't imagine having storage other than that. I've got dozens of chests stacked like that, I'm 3rd week on an official PVE server and only two empty chests dissapeard. I'll stick with stacking.
decay need to happen faster because clans spam foundations all over the map and return hours before timer runs out , not enough explosives to clean them all out
What i just want to know is: the lower the time multiplier the faster it will decay and the higher it is the slower it will decay, or completely opposite? because ive been trying to see if thats what itll do and i havent found a good source to tell me that.
So does the elevator lifts connecting 2 separate buildings about 20 spaces apart "connect" them into the same decay timer? or do they still count as separate timers?
I know this is a late replay but the same land claim spamming still persists on funcom servers. Decay was supposed to address that. The next thing they should introduce is a land block area upper limit to how much land you can claim. No more super massive crisscrossing blocker wall builds for entire map grids. Instead a max limit of say 5000 building blocks worth of allowable area including enclosed walled compound spaces
Pieces of my building have been disappearing and or taking bits of damage for no reason...everything always says 168 hours for decay and I'm on an official pve server so nobody is attacking me. Any thoughts?
The decay timer was counting down but it didn't get past a minute while fire was standing next to it. The decay where it kept counting down to decon is when he switched his clans so he could see the decay as an outsider.
That decay timer is just another of the many reasons why AI will never play official. It is ridiculous how little time they give you. Sorry, but I have a life: I work go to school, and I have other activities I engage in besides just playing Conan Exiles. I get the purpose of it, but the base game decay timer is beyond ridiculous.
I came here for explain on the building id.. If I build a long line foundations across the map and seperate them (but still the same building id) , will I be able to refresh the timer from one side only ?

I put a vault down in the morning and its decayed by the time i log on at night. It was right next to my base too, touching it. Im curious what sort of 200 iq system they have in place to make it work like that, oh boy i bet im in for a trip!
Firespark81 - you should investigate the new update today for the main version. I could swear they have done something to thrall stats. I'm almost certain that I had a maxed Relic Hunter thrall with upper 40's strength but now after the update is in the 20's. Also, I have a Snow Hunter who seems to have lost about 2k of HP and some strength as well.
@warlock040269 Yeah, I did check. All my thralls are at the same level and same perks as before. Just the base stats are lowered. Also, I'm aware that old thralls from several versions back will not level. I had a ton of those and had to destroy them. So, the ones I'm talking about are pretty new since the last update.
So with the whole buildings decaying at the end of that time, how many hours before decay is completed is it before players can remove doors and go in and loot?
It's a great game..............Assuming you have no family, no work, no friends, no social life and you don't ever leave your house. The game asks you to grind away into oblivion and if you dare take a few days off the game, everything will be gone.
This is a rough estimate that might be wrong. Disable decay timer in single player, get to lvl 60 in a day, farm for best tier materials with a good thrall as carrier for a day and you finish all preparations. Get a good fighter thrall and pet and go do every boss in a day. If you have no life, and have the know how, you can finish almost all the content in this game in 3 to 4 days. (Of very intensive play) If you value sleep, nourishment and health it will take maybe a week? (Of intensive play) If you value social interactions obligations and work; a month or two. (Of intensive play) If you additionally want to have fun while doing stuff and build towards the goal at a steady pace, then about 3 months I would guess. (With almost a 100% end goal, always in mind) If you want to casually play, don't know everything, looks up stuff online, value your normal life...... 6 months at least.
I made map rooms for all the room & everyone loved them & half of them decayed ..ine dude let me know of one & I refreshed it & the next week it was gone
So I was traveling on my horse and I accidentally went off a cliff and died when I returned to where I died my loot disappeared, apparantly my loot decayed according to the game logs how do i get them back, I'm playing a single player server and on xbox any advice?
Dont even need decay time for base.. have mine turned off and still some builds keep disappearing but did not decay & were not destroyed by player or NPC -_-
I have heard about this. No clear idea why though. Used mods? Update messing them up? Just the update itself messing with something? Would love to hear if you have any insight
wasn't there also the possibility to claim decaying buildings before they vanish instead of destroying them? I play mainly solo, but I think I read that in the settings panel
You can't "claim" a decayed building but you can loot it by dismantling the doors first then dismantling each placeable and each chest and looting each sack that drops from them. Got some good thralls and resources from public servers this way.
I.... Don't think so.... I should find out if the bags are still considered owned from a destroyed chest. Maybe it's different when demolished after decay....
Thanks for the video. Can you do a video about landclaim? It is a big problem especially on pve and pve c as you cant destroy landclaim buildings. Some clans are landclaiming through the whole map and even with 5 clans active it seems the whole map is covered by landclaim elements...

That sucks. Conan Exiles is an entirely different experience when you play on a custom server with mods. After having done this, I could never ever go back to the vanilla game on official servers.... I highly recommend a custom/modded server that is more forgiving with decay (and other things).
I with you James... I love Conan but was away for a few days, came back to find everything gone... nothing in the event log or anything. I've ditched Conan and gone back to Ark... really enjoying it.
As an admin you can delete stuff directly in front of you with shift+del. (be careful players aren't in the invisible hit box for this). I believe you can do a similar thing with aoe, by using ctrl+shift+del.
Seems like a cool system but couldn't it just start taking damage or be claimable after the decay timer ends. Hay I found a already build base and no one has been here a week. CLAIMMED!!!!!
I've been in my base, I was playing there, I was in the morning,.. base vanished at the evening and the thralls floting on the air.... the last patch srewed everything....xbox one
Logged in Thursday to refresh main base and outposts, logged in Sunday to refresh base but base was gone. Outposts were still there. Time to uninstall.

You placed it over a unstable terrain. The best way to prevent this, is by making a good foundation base below of any structure. It's tricky sometimes. Be careful with roof slabs too. Usually people lost things because they used it like a floor.
@@ieorlich thats not my problem lol I am really good at building in conan and have a lot of experience buildingin this game, my problem is that I literally lost every building I had, its been a few months since I played and wanted to come back and build another castle for fun in my singleplayer game, but when I opened conan, Its like I lost everything, I had to remake a character and I searched for the builds I did and nothing was there...
Every descent server has wipes... The map is huge for the amount of players... This is a terrible idea, but I would expect it from a company that puts out expansions for money when the game is still bugged... Funcom sucks...
try the solo game. when you're offline everything stops there or you can just turn off the building decay as being yourself the server admin in the solo game
@@sik3xploit that's why I'm saying. don't choose a specific difficulty, but choose custom game when you start new. if you want the custom settings just click reset settings and cancel only the decay system. everything else can stay as it is. though if you don't have much time to play, I'd strongly recommend higher resource gathering rate
and yes, that's a stupid cross over from the multiplayer game. the decay timer keeps running if active, but every process ingame stops. especially thrall breaking 🤦♂️

jeez no wonder my "wall climbing wall" kept decaying, it was only 5 foundations high, good to know about the fishing stuff too

Every day it restarts, but I think all of them have slightly different times. Mine is around 4 or 5 in the morning.

He says it in the video, when you are in the near area, it resets, its doomed if you dont play for the remaining amount of time

But when I got back from my trip to the volcano big chunk of my roof dissapeard. I had little bit pieces disaplearing after I travel to my outposts and stuff but daaamm. . Big hole in the roof. Tier 1 builds I quess. I need to make pillars and foundations that my base is on tier 3 no doubt. It will be a bit harsh to upgrade all my foundations to tier 3 as I've got a base on Noob River 100% on water.Also 2 iron chests dissapeard that were stacked on top of each other which is weird because the bottom one and other that I lined up up against the wall are still there. I was thinking that maybe server lost memeory of my stuff.
There's allways like a big lag when you're more up North on the map. Or maybe admin or some1 is trolling me. This is pretty frustrating. I'm building my outposts only on most tactical locations arround the map but this will be frustrating when I'll loose rare loot or something.
Well like he said it's wonky and stacking chests isn't a good idea because the server doesn't know how to properly register the decay system for them
@@torstenw5723 I just can't imagine having storage other than that. I've got dozens of chests stacked like that, I'm 3rd week on an official PVE server and only two empty chests dissapeard. I'll stick with stacking.
decay need to happen faster because clans spam foundations all over the map and return hours before timer runs out , not enough explosives to clean them all out

Ive seen bases decay in less than a week around three days and it was a full t3 large bases.

Pretty much in real life if you are active then do your part as a maintenance. Just like in real life replace and renew.

What i just want to know is: the lower the time multiplier the faster it will decay and the higher it is the slower it will decay, or completely opposite? because ive been trying to see if thats what itll do and i havent found a good source to tell me that.

So does the elevator lifts connecting 2 separate buildings about 20 spaces apart "connect" them into the same decay timer? or do they still count as separate timers?
I know this is a late replay but the same land claim spamming still persists on funcom servers. Decay was supposed to address that. The next thing they should introduce is a land block area upper limit to how much land you can claim. No more super massive crisscrossing blocker wall builds for entire map grids. Instead a max limit of say 5000 building blocks worth of allowable area including enclosed walled compound spaces
Pieces of my building have been disappearing and or taking bits of damage for no reason...everything always says 168 hours for decay and I'm on an official pve server so nobody is attacking me. Any thoughts?

Why would the decay timer count down while you are online?
@@KonFess Actually being online is not enough. You have to be within render range of the structure to reset decay.
The decay timer was counting down but it didn't get past a minute while fire was standing next to it. The decay where it kept counting down to decon is when he switched his clans so he could see the decay as an outsider.
It refresh every minutes
That decay timer is just another of the many reasons why AI will never play official. It is ridiculous how little time they give you. Sorry, but I have a life: I work go to school, and I have other activities I engage in besides just playing Conan Exiles. I get the purpose of it, but the base game decay timer is beyond ridiculous.

You can also see the decay timer by holding TAB. Does not should stability.
I put a vault down in the morning and its decayed by the time i log on at night. It was right next to my base too, touching it. Im curious what sort of 200 iq system they have in place to make it work like that, oh boy i bet im in for a trip!

Firespark81 - you should investigate the new update today for the main version. I could swear they have done something to thrall stats. I'm almost certain that I had a maxed Relic Hunter thrall with upper 40's strength but now after the update is in the 20's. Also, I have a Snow Hunter who seems to have lost about 2k of HP and some strength as well.
@warlock040269 Yeah, I did check. All my thralls are at the same level and same perks as before. Just the base stats are lowered. Also, I'm aware that old thralls from several versions back will not level. I had a ton of those and had to destroy them. So, the ones I'm talking about are pretty new since the last update.
So with the whole buildings decaying at the end of that time, how many hours before decay is completed is it before players can remove doors and go in and loot?
It's a great game..............Assuming you have no family, no work, no friends, no social life and you don't ever leave your house.
The game asks you to grind away into oblivion and if you dare take a few days off the game, everything will be gone.
This is a rough estimate that might be wrong.
Disable decay timer in single player, get to lvl 60 in a day, farm for best tier materials with a good thrall as carrier for a day and you finish all preparations.
Get a good fighter thrall and pet and go do every boss in a day.
If you have no life, and have the know how, you can finish almost all the content in this game in 3 to 4 days. (Of very intensive play)
If you value sleep, nourishment and health it will take maybe a week? (Of intensive play)
If you value social interactions obligations and work; a month or two. (Of intensive play)
If you additionally want to have fun while doing stuff and build towards the goal at a steady pace, then about 3 months I would guess. (With almost a 100% end goal, always in mind)
If you want to casually play, don't know everything, looks up stuff online, value your normal life...... 6 months at least.
Yaaa.... Don't try Ark that 1000 hour mark will creep up pretty fast.
I made map rooms for all the room & everyone loved them & half of them decayed ..ine dude let me know of one & I refreshed it & the next week it was gone

So I was traveling on my horse and I accidentally went off a cliff and died when I returned to where I died my loot disappeared, apparantly my loot decayed according to the game logs how do i get them back, I'm playing a single player server and on xbox any advice?
If you're on single player - why not just make yourself admin? Add your loot back... easy.
Dont even need decay time for base.. have mine turned off and still some builds keep disappearing but did not decay & were not destroyed by player or NPC -_-

wasn't there also the possibility to claim decaying buildings before they vanish instead of destroying them? I play mainly solo, but I think I read that in the settings panel
You can't "claim" a decayed building but you can loot it by dismantling the doors first then dismantling each placeable and each chest and looting each sack that drops from them. Got some good thralls and resources from public servers this way.
If I raid a base that`s decayed in PVE-C can the owner see my character name in events as looting the bags.
I.... Don't think so.... I should find out if the bags are still considered owned from a destroyed chest. Maybe it's different when demolished after decay....
Thanks for the video. Can you do a video about landclaim? It is a big problem especially on pve and pve c as you cant destroy landclaim buildings. Some clans are landclaiming through the whole map and even with 5 clans active it seems the whole map is covered by landclaim elements...

That sucks. Conan Exiles is an entirely different experience when you play on a custom server with mods. After having done this, I could never ever go back to the vanilla game on official servers.... I highly recommend a custom/modded server that is more forgiving with decay (and other things).
I with you James... I love Conan but was away for a few days, came back to find everything gone... nothing in the event log or anything. I've ditched Conan and gone back to Ark... really enjoying it.

If you demolish an enemy base it should all disappear from what I've seen, but I don't think you can do it with your own base.

As an admin you can delete stuff directly in front of you with shift+del. (be careful players aren't in the invisible hit box for this). I believe you can do a similar thing with aoe, by using ctrl+shift+del.
Seems like a cool system but couldn't it just start taking damage or be claimable after the decay timer ends.

You placed it over a unstable terrain. The best way to prevent this, is by making a good foundation base below of any structure.
It's tricky sometimes.
Be careful with roof slabs too. Usually people lost things because they used it like a floor.

Every descent server has wipes... The map is huge for the amount of players... This is a terrible idea, but I would expect it from a company that puts out expansions for money when the game is still bugged... Funcom sucks...

try the solo game. when you're offline everything stops there or you can just turn off the building decay as being yourself the server admin in the solo game
@@liviuursegr I think it may still decay on solo when you are offline, because my whole building had collapsed after I got back on my solo game.
@@sik3xploit that's why I'm saying. don't choose a specific difficulty, but choose custom game when you start new. if you want the custom settings just click reset settings and cancel only the decay system. everything else can stay as it is. though if you don't have much time to play, I'd strongly recommend higher resource gathering rate
and yes, that's a stupid cross over from the multiplayer game. the decay timer keeps running if active, but every process ingame stops. especially thrall breaking 🤦♂️
