  • What is the average cost to grind a stump? In my area the minimum cost to grind a stump is a $100 to come out and a grind stump or do stump removal.
    The cost depends on how far to travel, location, things around the stump causes the price to go up. Thanks for watching!

    I never understood why a contractor would charge less to come out to a property and grind a stump for less than homedepot or any rental place rents a machine for which is $200 or more on average, and the homeowner not only need to pick it up, but has to grind their own stump, cleanup machine, refill and bring back to the store.

      It seems ridiculous but it’s also a great selling point, why would I ever go spend more to rent one when I can hire this guy?

    • @Streetpreaching7
      @Streetpreaching7 5 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Well you are talking about a 1 day rental which is normally you pay for up to 8 hours of use. 8hours of continuous use on say a 72in stump x2 is hard on that machine. That why you get a 300 dollar charge. Those teeth aren’t cheap. Stump grinding is a very violent process it wears on the machine so maintenance is needed.
      This is a ten minute stump about 12 in diameter.
      Apples to oranges kind of thing I think.
      I think this guy is charging a very fair rate too. Other people may charge more.
      If this guy had to grind a 6foot really deeply rooted ash stump or something we would see a different quote. And it’s close to his home lots of variables at play.

    A minimum is a must. I `m at $150.00 min if it is within 10 miles from me and up to about 20 inches or so.
    Just remember if you hit a rock or something you end up loosing a tooth . People around here seem to like to put little rock gardens around their trees . Even though your only on the job for 15- 20 minutes you still have drive time , fuel and wear & tear on your truck ,trailer and equipment,
    Grinding really slows down after Thanksgiving up here. People start spending money on Christmas shopping instead of outdoor projects.

    • @ChrissStumpGrinding

      Panther Outdoors, gas plays a big part in the prices theses days and what it cost to rent a stump grinder and the homeowners do it themselves.

    Chris, I subscribe to your site, find it tremendously informative. For someone starting off in stump grinding (soon!) how do you charge or handle when asked to remove the wood chips? i notice on other sites there is such mix of results. Some guys will put chips back in stump hole, others suggest to home owners to let chips set in another area for 9 months. What is the charge to remove chips? Do you ever just leave the chips where they fall? Thanks Chris for a great site.

    • @ChrissStumpGrinding
      @ChrissStumpGrinding  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @goldie423, it all depends on the customer and situation. I used to haul off everything, but it takes time and energy. I make more money with grind and go unless the customer is willing to pay really good for that. Time is money in this business. I charge different to haul off for people than other people. All my equipment is paid for, so I just charge for the cleanup. Thanks for watching!!! Keep grinding!!

    So why are you not using the dual wheels that came with your stump grinder?? Do you call 811 to check for utilities lines

    • @ChrissStumpGrinding
      @ChrissStumpGrinding  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @PoconoJoe13, I don't ever duals unless I am on a hill. It takes too much time taking them off and on. I do call in sometimes on the locates. I worked nine years doing that job for gas, water, Ele and telephone. It is a law in my state to call in a locate on every job. Thanks for watching!!! Keep grinding!

    • @PoconoJoe13
      @PoconoJoe13 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      You do realize that the manufacturer put dual wheels on the stump grinder because it needs the stability for grinding even on flat ground!! The dual wheels are only supposed to be removed to go through gates or other tight areas and are to be put back on for grinding!!! Another question is if it is a law to call 811 for detection of utility lines why would you only call sometimes!! I personally know of incidents where lines have been hit because811 was not called and it was not a good situation for the stump grinding company!!

    100$ doesnt even justify the labor here or bringing out a expensive machine that if anything breaks on it, then wheres that 100$ going? Way in the negatives. Plus gas for machine and your travel time.
    Alot of things that should have a price not just the stump itself.
