    As much as I enjoy your painted stuff, I really love when you match up components to frame as well as on this build. Just great looking. Those wheels too 🤌🏼

      Dido. On some bikes the paint is just awesome and screaming for som color coordinated bling. The headset on the bike originally was awesome but I knew I had a used orange Chris king headset… 🙌

      100% the way to go on that bike, now a few orange chain ring bolts , bottle cage bolts n seat clamp and you’ve suddenly make it look like a bike worth twice the price!!!

    Nice build, it left me speechless. I could say nothing but wow 😊
    I feel more comfortable riding upright than holding on to the drop bars.

    So, unless I’m wrong, what started as a parts bin build turned into new components. Looked like a lot of new components were added after the initial setup. Looks like it could have gotten quite expensive for the average person.

    Awesome Awesome build. I made my street fighter from a specilized sirrus. Running 42t in front and 10t-42t rear on rival 1 groupset and no problems on hills so you can definitely go bigger up front

    I like what you did there. That's where all the old XT stuff is! I've been mulling something similar for my Specialized SL2 Roubaix with Ultregra 9, that has those mavic wheels on it. Great setup as is but a flat bar, 1x wide range, and 28c tires has me thinking...

    • @oldshovel

      Part of it was plans changing mid build. I chose to keep the 10 speed drivetrain for another upcoming build. I didn’t show much on the choice to change.

    very nice.. looks like a great practical bike for around town/commuting... the only thing I'd add is some Cane Creek ergo bar ends... I loved them nearly 20 years ago on my karate monkey and if I was to do flat bars on a street bike they would 100% make the cut.

    Was looking for a Lemond cause of their 853 Frames and just so happened to come across a KHS Flite 800 in a Reddish Root Beer color. Not sure the year however supposedly they only made the Flite 800 for only four years from 2000-2003.
    I'm going 11 Speed with a Praxis Zayante 48-32 Carbon Crank, a Shimano 105 11-32 Cassette, SL RS700 (105/Ultegra) Rapid Fire Shifters, Ultegra R8000 Medium Cage RD, Ultegra Brakes, with some Kysrium Elite Wheels with Continental 700x28 Reflective Tires.
    Might do a video. Jesse from the SF Bay Area

    Nice build, I can stare at it all day. The thing about "parts bin builds", at least for me, is that I love the idea of putting random bits to use, but eventually the mismatched parts start bothering me. For me, at least the cockpit always ends up harmonized.
    I was wondering how the 73mm BB was going to affect your chainline. The ring definitely goes inside of the spider (glad you made it work), but even then I'd be curious about the chainline.

    • @oldshovel
      @oldshovel  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could still go in about 3-5mm to get the best chain line but it’s working well.

    • @oldshovel
      @oldshovel  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The inside of the crank spider had a slightly larger edge diameter than the outside so I had to file the chainring dow slightly. The holes are the same but the edge of the ring is slightly different. Shimano has a few cranks from the same era where this is the case.

    How has the bluing and topcoat held up? I really want to do this to my old Raleigh, but I'm in New England that gets a lot more rain than SLC, so I worry about rust. Maybe a clear powder coat would help?

    • @oldshovel
      @oldshovel  ปีที่แล้ว

      It does take more care but it has heal up well. I did 3 top coats of clear finish on the Lemond and I think this is a minimum. The clear still gets rubbed and nicked and then rusted a bit here and there.
