Look, I don't like Space Babies but this intro scene is great. A casual recap of the lore for new fans, a fun quick snappy display of the capabilities of the TARDIS... Absolutely brilliant.
So him snapping his fingers to "activate" the tardis and later on snapping while talking and nothing happening...on top of him being able to open and close the tardis doors with a snap makes me think its because of his psychic link with the tardis...wonder if one day he can use the link to summon the tardis without even needing to snap his fingers?
@@Soulindex yeah it would probably be overpowered to be able to do something like that, but even so it's possible, though the doctor would probably need some kinda device to amplify the connection when he's not near the tardis since we have only seen him be able to do the stuff mentioned before when near it.
Probably not summon it. He can only do that because the TARDIS wants to do it. It's not supposed to happen. But flying and landing is a very different thing to opening doors or changing up the lights.
What i loved about RTDs first era was the build up to wear the doctor came from, who his people were and why the Tardis looks like a police box. Spouting out all the information in one small scene at a beginning of a story that new viewers might forget happened isn't the greatest IMO.

Different strokes for different folks. RTD was telling a different story in the first Eccleston season than he was telling in this season, so he told it differently. If he did it exactly the same way this time it would feel like a rehash.
This scene was fun for giving new audiences the essential basic information about the Doctor and the Tardis to get invested in the show, and also the chance for Ncuti to convince new and pre-existing audiences that he is the Doctor with his own take on presenting this information.
Me and my brothers would watch Doctor Who and when we started we were only 5 or 6 and Tom Baker was the doctor. Great memories and just lost my youngest brother last year, my parents to COVID and my oldest brother to a car wreck 15 years ago. I will always love the doctor. I cherish these memories now. Cant wait to see this new doctor ❤
Wait, I thought Gallifrey lives or falls no more? It was kept in a pocket universe, 13th doctor went to galllifrey the long way around towards the end of the universe.
I hope they at least retcon what the master did.. it was so fucking unnecessary after a decade of slowly bringing back gallifrey, dead again because mr chinball said so 😒

I will still never get over the fact that the whole purpose of the 50th anniversary was the doctor saving galifrey just to in almost 10 years time take it away again. There could have been so many stories to be told with galifrey being back.
I thought RTD got the infodump done efficiently and, with NG's delivery, gave it punch and style. RTD has made some definite missteps this season (Sutekh was a great idea to bring back but so much scarier in 1975, as my six-yr-old self could attest) - but this bit wasn't one of them. Worked for me and I've been a fan forever
I wish they'd brought the rtd 1 era tardis dematerialisation effect back, its never looked better than back then Ever since then its just been a little....flat

It was David in the three anniversary specials which came about 6 months before this season started, he regenerates into this guy so he’s now him as the main doctor for the new few years
I've always thought rtds openers were weak, except for partners in crime. This was sadly the worst, although I do enjoy this first segment it all goes downhill when they get to the ship
Kinda disappointed they forgot about the doctor changing the lighting in his TARDIS but overall I do enjoy this doctor a bit, just wish they didn’t make the big bads power seem like it’s only weakness is a smart rope
