The true tragedy of Ruby’s exit (and what I think differentiates it from that of Martha and Rose, which are the two most similar to Ruby imo) is that neither her or the Doctor want to leave each other, but both know that it’s the only way to keep them both happy. It’s not necessarily chosen, Ruby doesn’t truly want to leave the Doctor behind, but it’s not necessarily forced either. Ruby doesn’t want or need the TARDIS in the same way she did when she first meets the Doctor in The Church on Ruby Road, and that is just a fact. Even if she were to continue adventuring and beholding all of time and space in this magical flying box, it would no longer make her content in the same way: she would perpetually be thinking of her two families at home and what they might be doing without her. Ruby knows this, and the Doctor knows this, and they both know that the only answer is for her to leave. That’s not what makes this tragic. What does is that what Ruby does still want and need and doesn’t want to abandon is her best friend. She wants the Doctor, but not the TARDIS. Not anymore. But the Doctor and the TARDIS are the original besties, the original duo, and they can’t be without the other. Even when 14 decides to spend his life with his bestie Donna Noble and her family in the 60th Specials, he still needs a TARDIS of his own to feel like the Doctor - that’s how instrumental the police box is to him, he sees it as a core part of his personal identity. Asking the Doctor to give up the TARDIS is literally akin (at least in their mind) to losing their image of self. You can’t have the TARDIS without having the Doctor, and *you can’t have the Doctor without having the TARDIS* . You can’t have one without having both. Since Ruby can no longer have the TARDIS, she can no longer have the Doctor. And she knows this, you can tell she knows this: the way she enters at 0:14 and tries to put on a happy face and makes it seem like she still wants to travel, all because she desperately doesn’t want to lose him. That’s the true tragedy of this scene. She can’t have both, so she can have neither.
I’d argue it’s most similar to Clara’s series 8 exit, in neither of them wanting to leave each other but soon reuniting with Ruby still being in season 2 (although more separately to the doctor, I’d imagine)

This is probably one of the most controlled goodbyes the Doctor has had with a NuWho companion. He doesn't leave the companion on an unfinished sentence like with Rose, nor as a wordless stranger when the companion says goodbye first like with Martha, or even when he says goodbye first but in a sad way like when he wiped Donna's memories. The Doctor says goodbye with a smile, even if he's sad afterwards which is how the Twelfth Doctor would have prefered it when you think of his quote "Nothing is sad till it's over. Then everything is.".
I don't get why she has to go, why her life is "out there now." You could say the same about everybody the Doctor ever takes as a Companion. Including Ruby when she first came on board. So why goodbye now? Unless they're just trying to get rid of the actress.
You really couldn’t say the same about everybody the Doctor ever takes as a companion, because Ruby had just met her birth mum for the first time, and then gets a message that her birth dad had been found, so of course she had to go, because she had just had all of these new and important things happen to her, she wasn’t just gonna say hi to her birth parents and then go off travelling, these are two people that Ruby hasn’t known for 19 years, so it’s gonna take more than a few days or weeks for Ruby to reconnect with her birth parents and extended family.
Unlike all the fake fans out there who just watch the show to find new things to hate, as they've been doing since Jodie Whittaker was the 13th Doctor, I actually enjoyed seeing Ncuti and Millie together as the 15th Doctor, and Ruby Sunday.
This show has been going down hill since Chibnall took over. This is Mickey Mouse territory. Civilians die as do companions and there isn’t always a happy ending. I miss the 80s.

Also Susan had a part in the Time War too! There's no telling where she is now. Hope they wrap her and her grandfather's story up. 😢❤️
"and that was my mistake......maybe I'll find her again, one day" in all fairness, if by some chance carol ann ford is not available to return as Susan Foreman, I'm more than positive that they'll still be able to track down the actor that played her in "an adventure in space and time"
“i’ve shown you monsters and planets and legends.” and for half of it they were separated doing their own thing or barely in the stories. ☠️ (i feel like i know rogue and the doctor more than i do the doctor and ruby) 😭
Even the Fifteenth Doctor doesn't do domestic.
But it’s not the end, the moment has been prepared for. The Doctor will be back with a new friend and be back with Ruby.
Beautiful
😟😟😟😥😥😥😥😢😢😢😢😢😭😭😭😭😭😭😭im so sad they said goodbye
I was really hoping the Trickster would be pointing. It would have made a lot more sense for Ruby to have died and made a deal to come back to life with The Trickster reaping the havok created by Sutek
It’s insane the amount of tears RTDs has made me shed over the years
Yes I agree the scripts have been so bad they make you want to cry
@@_MyNameIsAJ_ oh grow up snowflake.

GOODBYES ARE THE HARDEST. To let go of the ones we care for most in the world 🌎 or the universe 🌌.
that is so true letting go is so hard
1:14 A little of "Vale Decem" started playing here. Wonder why.
And 1 month later, I think it is the 15th doctor version of Vale Decem
One question is how did the doctor who died in the graveyard old temple tomb of the tardis I didn't know.
Ruby: I love you 💔
That hit like a truck and the fact the Doctor doesn't say it back even though he clearly loves her too... thanks I didn't need my heart anyway 😭
Ncuti and Millie are just PHENOMENAL! Beautiful stuff. ❤ And I'm really happy this isn't the end of Ruby and that we'll see more of her again next year, her and her family's story definitely isn't over yet!
Tbh this doesn't hit as hard for me knowing that she'll be back next season
honestly i watched the whole season and it still didnt hit. it never felt like they had built that type of best friend rapport
lol this show is ass Anwyay
@@Walterwhite_cooks jesse we need to cook
🎉 Yes I think it would be a good story concept to bring back to DOCTOR WHO
for a moment, i thought i would of been really cool to find out rubys father had the last name Gwilliam, would of been a great reveal and tied that otherwise pointless character back into the show, aswell as adding to the otherwise incredibly disappointing mystery as to who she is in the first place
Susan regenerated body?! Maybe the original actress regeneration? PLEASE! ITS TIME for Susan to see her Granpa again! MAYBE his daughter?😊
Honestly the ending was sad and generally good but i mean they could have made it a bit better like they said the reason suhtech couldn't see jer mother was because of her not knowing and wanting to know her and memory but it was only her what about like every other orphan mother and child in a similar ish sinario like i don't see them being exempt do i and also how the hell cam she make it snow no other orphan can do it like please explain and they could have had her as some epic being of some sort as well that would have been so cool
good scene
Will the doctor visit his granddaughter, Susan again, or other members of his family?
This felt wrong, we barely spent time with her
#doctor who series end why pls no 😢 ruby dont
I'm a sucker for happy stuff, and I'm crying during a rewatch. Lovely.
man up
@@arianathearyan Real men cry.
@@ColtonRMagby you’re not a real man anyways
After Ruby said ‘I love you’, the doctor should’ve looked at her and said ‘Ruby…..you’re no Rose Tyler’, and propelled her out with the ramp 😂
Imo I think he loved her as much as Rose
@@MatthewLee-j8m He loved her in a different way, but just as much
This is platonic love, very different.

Wish Tom Holland played as Doctor Who 16th or 17th and he is a nice guy.

Please. No. Just no.

Corny music, but it seems to be hypnotising people into viewing, which is what we need, so there's that!
It's as syrupy sweet as music can be.
Who is new doctor and who is partner
Thank you, next
😢😢😢😢😢
Unlike all the fake fans out there who just watch the show to find new things to hate, as they've been doing since Jodie Whittaker was the 13th Doctor, I actually enjoyed seeing Ncuti and Millie together as the 15th Doctor, and Ruby Sunday.
Doesn't hit you as hard knowing she'll be back next series.
Did you have to go all Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil on us, Doctor…?
This show has been going down hill since Chibnall took over. This is Mickey Mouse territory. Civilians die as do companions and there isn’t always a happy ending. I miss the 80s.
Soooo...is this over?
No Doctor Who is here to stay forever.
Still 2 more seasons on the way
oh no .. not by a long shot . As RTD has already said Ruby's Story still isn't finished yet . this just a short pause
@@helloeveryone930 2 more seasons of this Doctor?
@@alos197I really don’t know what to expect. Ncuti may have 4 seasons altogether as the doctor. Who knows.
In some ways I don't think the Doctor learned anything from his Fourteenth life.
this "mother" she found is just part of mrs flood's plan. it has to be else this was the most boring reveal in tv history.
The writing and acting this series just didn’t deserve the magic of Murray Gold. I’m sorry.
Imagine a time traveller being sad despite the fact he can pop along to their future and carry on where they left off.
I can see aspects of Hartnell in this scene, wonderfully done Ncuti
Is this supposed to be sad 😂
1st to the dr who channel
Bit toxic of the doctor. All along he’s been in touch with his emotions but now does he act stoic and shows his companion he doesnt care by not reciprocating his feelings. This show is dead theres no consistency its just doctor who has adhd now

Wow, those handrails 0:11 look like they were taken from a bus, painted white and glued to the floor. What a "fantastic" alien design. Is this where all the disney money went?
What a weird criticism
Well , I guess next Tardis will be made out of cardboard and scotch tape and evrybody will love it.
Except it was made before Disney gave money. The 60th specials were made to get Disneys interest. Which is where the TARDIS debuted with this control room.
Its insane the amount of tears Shooty Gatwa has shed in this season. He definitely has issues.

Get it right.
i know right isnt it so ILLEGAL for a character to SHOW FUCKING EMOTION AND I 100% BET YOU WOULDNT GIVE A SHIT IF IT WAS ANY OF DOCTORS 1-12 WHO SHOWED EMOTION
I'm sorry but... While I love the actors, I just don't care about this relationship they have.
