  • For some classes it’s not unusual for a world championships to look much like their normal racing programme. But when the Swan One Design World Championships rolled into the Spanish city of Valencia for theirs it was clear that this would be different
    - 34 Teams
    - 13 nationalities
    - 3 classes
But what makes this event particularly special with owners and crews is Swan's recipe that combines amateur with professionals to deliver some impressively close racing across three very different types of boats.
PlanetSails' Matt Sheahan was there to report on how the Swan One Design worlds played out, why it works and how three teams became world champions.

Great topic. Great video. Interesting to see if the new 80 class cannibalizes from the success of the 50 class.

There are so many monotypes classes. Do I actually want to race on a swan where the minimum ticket will prevent a number of talents to attend or do I prefer to attend races with the highest level?

What happens though if u buy a 50 and then the next year they change it to 55?

As long as there are enough owners still wanting to race there is no problem. And with a fleet that big that is a long time. Also the next swan one design is the 80.

Foiling pleases the crowds but fails to satisfy sailings traditions.
