I’m brand new to the crawler world. Already have this SCX10iii, Capra and UMG10 4x4. I love yer channel and this is where I’m learning the most. I bought my SCX10iii yesterday at Hurricane Hobby here in Jacksonville [he received 6 of the already built dealer demos yesterday to sell now he has 5 ;-) ] I’m ordering a 550 motor today.
My hobby shop has one of those pre built demo ones and they were going to sell it to me for 400 but when my buddy who works there picked it up he went to spin the front axle and it was all bound up and sounded like it had broken gears😥😥. Sucks because I really wanted it lol, whoever built that one must have messed up or something so I ended up getting the bomber 2.0.
ya brother, i have a few of those motors and is by far the best brushed motor i've ever used hands down!!! and i've been rc'ing since the '80s so i've tried ALOT of motors;)
well that turned out to be a pretty decent run and dousing my doubts of my purchase. I already picked my motor/esc, CC Mamba Micro X and HH Puller Pro Stubby v2 3300kv, CC waterproof bec. And really just how much torque do you need, so saving a little bit and going out on a limb by trying the Ruddog RC2511. Fingers crossed that the tires with CI foams will work well enough. I usually pinion 2 down on all my rigs and try the 2s first, I don't send mine flying but the wheel speed has to be there when the things get slipping.
You mentioned a later "Ready To Run"(RTR) version at the beginning of this video. I am a (RTR) buyer and the owner of a (RTR) Capra who would be HUGELY grateful if you could do a short tutorial on how to easily/quickly access the motor and electronics on the Capra. RTRs come with exploded diagrams w/part numbers but no clues as to accessing many of these parts and systems. I learned a great deal from this video that I can apply to another RC truck I own, and further tutelage on the 'exocaged' Capra 'no matter how seemingly elementary' would be greatly appreciated by me and others I'm sure. Thank you.
yeah man, I want to show the transmission but thats a major job, lol so much in that thing. Axles are fairly simple and I have an OverDrive video should be done and out tomorrow if I can get it done, that will show the portal boxes.
@@ExocagedRC You needn't disassemble the transmission; just showing how to get to it and surrounding motor and electronics would be GREATLY appreciated. Little did I know when I purchased the Capra that it was so problematic to access these systems. Thank you.

Zbiri oh man I’m bummed out to hear that. A portal truck that has too much torque twist is a major deal breaker. One reason I love portal trucjs is the lack of t.t. Or it’s reduced by a lot. What were they thinking?
deezomaxima @2:50 climbing the slide it constantly lifts the right wheel and squats to the left when power is applied. Trx4 sport never does that and torque twist on the scx10ii was always an issue .Axial had the chance to address this time but failed.
Another great video ! I'm impressed with the way that rig handles the off angles. It doesn't seem to be top heavy with the portals. One solid truck. You have really expanded your driving area ! I hadn't noticed how much you have to play on now. Too bad your several states away.
His site shows the Crawlmaster 550 15T is ideal for it with stock pinion. Got one coming in a couple days, sure hope it will last longer than the Axial 20T and 27T 🔥
New to this hobby! I wonder if the stock 14T pinion is too tall for the Crawlmaster Pro 10t, what you guys think? And how about Crawlmaster Pro 12t, can it use 14T pinion? Thanks in advance for any comments.
So, I am just finding out after building this that you can't just toss in a motor, as I had hoped, since I have smoked a 20T Axial in 15 min, and a 27T (had those on hand from my Wraith Spawn) in 30 minutes of use. Holmes has a " motor fit guide" on the website, usually under a motor description. But of course that's based on stock gearing, which I have...for now. Just ordered a Crawlmaster 15T 550 for my Gladiator 10iii. I can't believe a 2 tooth difference on pinion makes the difference in motor options. Newbie, December '20
There is a fix for clicking on TH-cam. The trans gears have different shaped drive pin slots in them. One has rounded edges and one is square. The Drive pins sit in the slots and if they aren’t positioned the right way it clicks.
Did u put any dig or shift servos yet ? Still running the rubber bands do u think a waterproof micro from traxxas or savox would fit cus u said the reefs won't fit
They are on the way. I saw a guy who has made the reefs work with some machining of the arm. I’ve already got the spektrums on the way so I’ll just run those.
@@ExocagedRC I think you may experience what others have complained about with Capra digs not releasing etc. with the spektrum servo.. I believe your Capra works good coz the Reefs99 doesn't take any shit and just pulls it in and out no fuss... The clicking is an improperly installed gear. There's a gear in the case, I forget exactly where, that has a square cut and a round cut on opposite side for a shaft interface. It's supposedly very hard to notice on the gear at assembly. Somebody did a video on it with an explanation. My RTR does NOT click.

I've been asking this on a few channels and I either get a yes, no, or only if you trim the cover. Thanks for clearing this up for me! Is a HW axe 550 wider or longer than these motors you've tried? That's what I'm hoping to put in one Cheers
The HW AXE 550 wont fit unless you remove the belts part and trim the mount where that goes to, those motors are about 6mm longer than a normal 550 motor you see here

Sounds like my trailfinder 2 when the pinion gear was worn down to a nub because I put the wrong pinion on, and I know the axial in this vid has the correct pinion.

That truck really handles well! I think it would benefit from some steel or aluminum wheels! Might help keep the front down on the extreme climbs!
