Audacity has updated their terms of service and now will "collect date for law enforcement." So, it's time to yeet that nonsense and try a different program like Dark Audacity, Oceanaudio, or Wavosaur. Check out the video for samples of each.

On the plus side, Audacity is open source and there seems to be a lot of demand for a privacy centered fork. There was already some drama on that front, but I'd wager the community will settle on something soon enough.
One of the many perks of open source projects.
It takes some time for a few solid programmers coming together on this but it will happen, one of the forks of Audacity will be properly maintained and hopefully also get new features if needed.
I'm sure all criminals keep an audio log in audacity

Reaper basically enabled my ability to make music. It's great.
Not only is there no telemetry in Dark Audacity, it also keeps your eyes healthy!
People are replacing audacity, yet they keep using Windows. Facepalm.
Calling it spyware is so misinformed it detracts from the message you're trying to send.
Just because you don't like the changes does not instantly mean it's SPYWARE -- which has a very specific definition. Plus the changes are OPT IN -- not OPT out.
I admit they may change but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.

Just don't upgrade to version 3. Or go offline before starting the program? There are already 2 forks available, Audacium and Tenacity
The funny thing is all these programs are forks of Audacity and usually the more they add different things to it the more features they take away. If you still want to use Audacity and just not update until all the new Open Source Forks come out stick to version 3.0.2. It was released before the privacy policy dropped. Currently if you download it and pin it with Chocolatey it won't update.
Mind you I want to check out Dark Audacity because dark mode all the things.
All correct, thanks for the voice of sanity. I am glad people object loudly to the change in the agreement, but the whole "It's spyware!" panic is overblown, at this point, and there is way too much misinformation being spread about it, including in some of these comments.

@@ano_nym Members of the community on GitHub Forked Audacity to keep out the telemetrics that Muse group is planning to put in. They didn't have a name at first and to make things quicker, or some reason like that, when they opened up naming for the project the decided to only let the internal dev part of the community vote. Some people got but hurt, Doxxed the maintainer and confronted them in public and got arrested. Then the trolls came in. that is the last I heard.

It's pretty simple to download something like O&O ShutUp10 and disable *ALL* telemetry and more with a single click -;) good luck doing that with Audacity
Also is a mad lad and doesn't block out the CD key.

@@interlace84 you can't say ALL telemetry as Windows is a closed source, proprietary OS. You, disabling some services does not turn off any telemetry MS has on the kernel level. Anyway, I was just hakf-joking.
How did you not mention Ardour?
Are the possible issues related to newer versions of the software or all of them even older ones? I use an older one from before the news about the acquisition spread.

Not updating stuff often pays off.
You should make more vids on audio software. I know how to make music, but I feel a bit lost with these digital tools. If you made tutorial/review vids about soft synths, sequencers, & DAW's, then I would watch all of them. Bonus points for showing how it works with midi rack stuff. Bonus points for FOSS.

FL Studio is probably the best thing for recording audio, even though it's technically a DAW for music production, it's $99 for the most basic version BUT free updates for life! i bought it when FL Studio 7 came out... we are now on FL Studio 20 LOL
Probably good for music, but for editing voiceover FL Studio seems a jumbled-up mess, at least if Audacity is what you're used to. Reaper comes the closest, although it has a considerable learning curve, and benefits from some customizing of the interface. I've tried a dozen others, but for now I am fine with the (Non-spyware version of) Audacity. I imagine that like anything else, FL Studio seems simple if it's what you've used for years, but I look at it and say "No thanks." Enjoy!
If flstudio, for each automation, you have to add an entire new slot in your instrument rack. Flstudio is pretty clunky for recording. Also it takes so long to stretch a single slice of audio, while in Reaper you can literally stretch audio in real time while the music is playing back or recording.
Audacity is not spyware but the developer did commit a big sin in the FOSS-world: telemetry without permission. Am I comfortable using the latest release of Audacity at the moment? Nope, I will use a fork when it becomes necessary or other software. For now I can keep using the old version because Arch (Linux for who does not know) has frozen that version which was released before the new owner bought Audacity. Unfortunately that owner also owns MuseScore which is great software (to write sheet music) but...
So older version should still be safe? The one I have is probably from like 2015.

I used Cool edit pro 2 back in the day. Solid program. Goldwave too.

@@AgentLokVokun if you wanna go all autismo about definitions, note how the guy you replied to (and what you asked for) said "spy tool" not "spyware", so that definitions isn't really useful here. And you could definitely call it a "possible spy tool" if it is something that the government could possibly get your info from, whether you opted in or not is not really relevant.

Damn, 4 minutes in and I would like to say, REAPER is FANTASTIC! The plugins are truly some of the best I have used out of the box and the DAW is very inexpensive. Ocenaudio I love as well. I was using it beside Audacity (now uninstalled) but interface/plugin wise, it's spot on. Good vid.

Thanks for the alternate! And I uninstall audacity. I was about to use audacity for sound for my flash animations. When I heard that audacity was a spyware, I was somehow shocked. But thanks to your video I can find alternatives for audacity. I can finally use a new sound recording system for my animations/games.❤😉
