That’s some cutting edge cattle breeding! We’ve come a long way from “Head ‘um up! Move ‘um out!” The effort and planning you’re putting into improving your herd should pay off mightily in the years to come.

Jeremy’s cattle at Split Creek Ranch are so docile! Wish my cattle were as docile, but that is something more frequently seen on dairy farms where human contact is more frequent. Hope everything goes well for the birthing for your new cow. Tyler, your youngest bull looks really good, and the genetics of the new cow’s future bull calf looked very impressive! Future breeding looks very promising for your cattle ranch. Nicely done Tyler!👍👍

Back in the day, all our cows, calves and steers..where very gentle..they had to be...we had four very young children on our farm...who loved on them...the kids would walk into the pasture and all the cows, horse's, chicken's geese and ducks where right with them...what a sight to behold....I do believe that the livestock enjoyed the kids...

Wow! What to say?! I know so little about any of this, and this just shows me how little I know. She’s a beautiful cow even though the calf isn’t hers, when she does have calfs they’ll probably be beautiful too. It was really cool seeing Jeremy petty his cows.

Thanks for the comment. As I explained to Tyler, Bismarck x EXT is foundational, balanced genetics that are proven low birth, high growth. This mating also excels for Dry Matter Intake and $Energy, so he should expect feed efficient, moderate framed cattle.

Farmer Tyler...I'm so happy for you for investing in a new genetic-breeding place such as Split Creek Ranch ! In the future years you will have top-grade herds. What a wonderful adventure. I have not seen so many docile animals all together in a long time. Thanks for taking me along. The gentleman who you purchased the cow and baby from reminds me of you ! I think they should call them wreckers instead of bulls...they wreck stuff around them, sometimes they wreck each other or themself, and in extreme cases the cattleman. I hope he's docile, grows fast and well, is a meat wagon and breeds like a gigillo. (sp).

This is true. I have a bull calf and a heifer that will both come right up to you and let you pet them. Then I have a cow that has no interest in people and will hurt herself and others just to get away from you. I plan on getting rid of her in the next sale. I don't need her causing injury to the rest because she causes a panic over just getting sprayed for flies.

I have seen good cattlemen who have great calm herds, and then there are the other guys. Good cattle handlers know that where you look at a cow will increase the odds she'll go where you want when you apply a small amount of pressure. I worked with a guy that had a USFS range permit in the mountains. The set up was awkward to say the least. All the cattle you gathered had to be put through gates on the corners of the holding pasture. Most guys couldn't do it. You had to work them up to the open gate and wait for them to see the opening. Every cow knows there is wire between those fence post, and it takes a bit of time and patience to let them see there is an opening. Once one sees and goes through, they all will follow. My friend used border collies to gather and work his cows. He did not allow dogs to bite cattle unless it was on command. His cattle respected the dogs, and he made sure the dogs stayed off the cows.
Every time you handle a cow you are conditioning them to act in a certain way. Same as dogs and horses, quiet thoughtful people will have quiet and more predictable stock.

It’s amazing how far breeding and genetics has come since the days when my father and grandfather drove over 300 miles to get a Bull for their hard-The great thing is I have it in writing or my father journaled the trip and everything and what they paid for it. Just wonderful to have 4 1/2 years of my father cording my mother and having that kind of information and history. I can’t tell you at the top of my head what he paid but the interesting thing is that over 50 years later I ended up living in Cedar Rapids IA where they travelled to buy the Bull because the “ Old one wasn’t doing his job anymore”…To quote my father. Awesome future for your herd Tyler. It'll be a few weeks after the bull calf is born before you stop waking up in the night wondering if it's alright.

Tyler, I hope you talk more fully about this new cow and coming bull. There's some good questions in the Comments. I'm especially curious how a cow birthing in September will work with your March calving season in the future. Thanks a bunch! Always a joyous day when your videos post!

Tyler, Very well done. The best video you have produced yet. Extremely interesting content. You too I am sure will have your herd as docile as Jeremys.

It really is mind boggling to think this unborn born could breed back to his birth mom since she is not his bio mom. Good luck!
