    This track was pretty slick, so this method was super useful. Taking advantage of this strategy will depend on the kart and track conditions. If you're drifting, you're rotating too much!

    Most rental carts don’t have the revs for this.

    • @ActuallyVen
      @ActuallyVen  ปีที่แล้ว +8515

      Yes, some places have too much grip or the karts don't have enough power. (like k1 speed) You can still use this method to slighly rotate it which can get you a few tenths.

      I learnt a method of going very deep with full speed into a corner,send it into the middle,then just hit 100% brake and lock the rear,let the rear slide out,turn the kart sideways then finally quickly apply throttle again to exit.(works with weak karts)

      Depending on your definition of drift, then yeah. Sainz used an intermediate of grip and drift, only letting the wheels slip a tiny amount to change angle like drifting but retaining grip to maintain speed. From what I've seen, F1, Indy, and IMSA drivers use this kind of technique.

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Yes, but also drifting in this way is only really used in offroad and kart racing because of the way the vehicle is set up and in the case of offroad, the surfaces as well. These sports are prone to understeer and REQUIRE drift to go fastest, whereas in a lot of types of racing, drifting will actually make you slower. It's a completely different skill set really.

    Lift, brake, turn. It's less of a sliding motion but more about shifting the weight of the car/kart onto the front tires.
    If you don't use the brakes, you add more angle, wearing down the fronts. Drivers usually alternate driving methods to prevent uneven tire degradation.
    This method is seen less in F1, since the aero on the cars is tuned to load the fronts, which is why drivers mess with brake balance so much during qualifying.
    This technique is the most important skill for driving rally, since high steering angle in the fronts make them dig into gravel, creating a lot of drag and a very inefficient use of energy as you head into a corner.
    Most of the time in rally, turning into a corner should feel like you're not even turning. Brake more to turn more. Super cool nuance and something that most track racers don't understand until they drive on dirt.

  • @sonicsupersam7793
    @sonicsupersam7793 ปีที่แล้ว +1010

    1. That’s an indoor track, so there’s naturally less grip
    2. Rental karts will struggle to get rotation by applying throttle
    3. You’d be better off braking right up until the apex for optimal rotation, leveraging weight transfer to get some more grip on those front tyres.

    • @jacobviator3118
      @jacobviator3118 ปีที่แล้ว +17

      The revs don't matter as much as you think. Most people over brake. They brake while still going into and they the turn. You brake BEFORE the turn then gas it going into and thru the turn! It makes a HUGEE difference! I think that's the point you are starting to get at with your #3 but it's more than just braking.

    • @sonicsupersam7793
      @sonicsupersam7793 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      @@jacobviator3118 yeah, many people do over-brake when trying to get the kart to rotate, so it’s about finding that balance really. with 2 and 3, the point I was trying to make was that using the throttle through the turn will usually create understeer on these karts, as it brings the weight off the front wheels and onto the back wheels. I find for me, turning while still under braking really prevents understeer (especially on turn in) as it puts more weight on the front tyres. Of course it doesn’t work for every corner, and there are some times where you may want to apply throttle during the corner, but imo you shouldnt really be accelerating until after the apex in most places. I’m not an expert though, just some guy on the internet haha.

    It's not just the throttle. It's many things. The camber on the front kingpins is designed to 'jack' the inside rear wheel up (like a differential effect). Also, you can 'flick' the kart sideways on the brake by 'over-turning' the steering. Watch the karting greats, Terry Fullerton, Senna and Mike Wilson. They all use that to great effect. At my local indoor track, there is a banked hairpin. I momentarily put the steering on full lock, so the front wheels act as a brake, and it pitches the kart into the corner, then balance the exit on the throttle.

    two really important things to point out:
    #1: Sainz was running a KZ indoors, indoor tracks have a much slippery surfice, what you are seeing is drifting more than anything.
    #2: this can sometimes work because you compensate the steering angle by using throtle to keep the kart straight, and in the "here is what that looks like" part the other driver clearly went wide lol

    • @PBMS123
      @PBMS123 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah exactly. You definitely still use your brakes but not like this.
      You don't see F1 drivers turn the wheel much because they have mostly full lock at ~90-100 degrees so they don't cross over at high speed. Use your brakes to shift weight of the car further forward in a corner providing more front wheel grip and stopping oversteer.
      Try it if you ever experience understeer, or if your racing (although do it sooner) Tapping the brakes (tapping hard enough to move the weight forward) either just as you turn in (or when you experience extreme oversteer)

    @wacowildcat 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Just as rear starts to break loose steer towards the exit of the turn and accelerate out of the turn.
    You start the skid then power out of it.
    Wont make every car fast but will make every car faster when mastered.

    Very true but you sacrifice fuel and tire tread this way. However when dealing with other drivers of this caliber, its about who does it best and doesnt need too many pit stops. It's a very fine line! That's why I love racing, so many variables. You pick the right ones to focus on and you're King!

    • @bradgrant1899
      @bradgrant1899 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Speaking of variables... if you're sending it just right and using the right amount of throttle to negate understeer without kicking the ass out to much you'll exit the corner much faster right? Which means you're using less fuel getting back up to speed because you're already faster. It's just as much about how smooth you are

    • @ryancompeau146
      @ryancompeau146 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @bradgrant1899 no your still using more fuel. It's all about time on throttle for a given lap. The good ones just know how to drive the car without loosing as much time when "saving fuel" as others.

    • @leshreddur
      @leshreddur ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@bradgrant1899it depends on how long the race is and how many times you get to change tires and fuel up and all that. If it's a short sprint, which it most likely will be, yes this is the best way to go around a track the fastest, 100% agree. But a long endurance race, absolutely not. It's really not specified in this video, and I think it should be at least very briefly. Part of proper racing is knowing the rules and limits of the parts on your car. Like when Dale Earnhardt was like 8 or 9 laps ahead of everyone, but he ran out of gas with 3 laps left... If you are running 3 or 5 laps, that isn't a variable. Tires aren't a variable, etc..

  • @That-Guy.
    @That-Guy. ปีที่แล้ว +42

    Not always true. Depends on track surface, weather, track temps, tire and brake temps too. Sometimes just using your brakes before the turn and coasting through is your best option because you won’t be dragging or plowing the tire throughout the turn. As well as your racing line dictates how you’re going to need to use your combination of controls.

    It’s the exact opposite. In a Kart you use the brakes to rotate. You push them as hard as possible making the rear step out a little which gives it rotation. As explained by a little guy called Michael Schumacher

    • @noahzarsk
      @noahzarsk ปีที่แล้ว

      Depends on track and kart, in a TaG or single speed you have to because they are rear brakes only, in a KZ or shifter you have 4 wheel brakes so it’s not really necessary, and making sure the kart is around the corner as you roll onto the gas really shoots it out the best

    On public roads things arent as sliding but the air contained between the road and the drive frame as that is within the tyre along with the units aerodynamic surfaces allows for a lesser but just as effective driving technique.
    Slow or fast, front wheel drive, rear, or all, the correographical techniques still apply in varying intensitys.

  • @mitchellmobley7700
    @mitchellmobley7700 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    Its a racing variant of drifting. The theory is that there's a certain angle that you can achieve to angle the car toward the exit of the turn and still maximize a level of grip to keep pushing yourself forward and lose minimal speed. This is a long and roundabout way to introduce you to what touge and racing drivers call "Slip Angle" drifting.

    This really does depend on your kart and track conditions, but mostly kart. This is power sliding, your using the engine to steer way more than your using the steering wheel, you basiclly line the kart up with steering and then power on to make corner. Very intresting, havent done this in years, makes me want to get out there again. Lol 👍🏼

    I did pro-am go kart racing earlier in my life. I can tell you this, while slip angle is a good method, don’t do it on every turn.
    Simple reason: if youre sideways, you’re not going straight, and straight is fastest. With that mind, if the turn isn’t sharpe enough, no need to do it.
    Sainz was going thru sharpe apex’s, that why he did it. You really didn’t need to do it on those first few turns
