Me watching episode 35 of stardust crusaders when suddenly jotaro turns to the screen, faces me directly, states my full legal name and address, and bets my soul
The reason why Jotaro bets his mom's soul is because if they all died here, then she will die anyway from her awakened stand. Nobody would be able to save her
I guess *in theory* Iggy could have saved the day all by himself by sneaking into DIO's castle and then using his sand to drag DIO's coffin (with DIO sleeping inside) into the sunlight. But that would be about as likely as DIO forgetting he's a vampire and just walking into the sunlight by his own volition.
What I love about Jotaro's victory over D'arby is that genuenly feels like the kind of victory *only Jotaro* could pull off. He couldn't beat D'arby at poker and he certainly couldn't outcheat him. Jotaro bet his mother's soul because he knew that if he lost then his mother would've passed away anyways, so betting her soul was a risk-free choice in this situation and honestly gave him the ultimate trick for his bluff to work because nobody will think that betting his mother's soul is something he would do if not for being almost 100% confident in his cards. Honestly I like the dub explanation for why jotaro bet his mom's soul more. I don't remember the exact quote but it boils down to 'if we all lose our souls here, my mom's dead anyway so betting her life here won't actually change anything.'. It's a lot more sensible then just 'She'd be fine with it. We came here for her after all.'.
I think the thing that really break Darby is Dios secret, this is the one time that how Dio runs his organisation back fired, because all his side henchmen fear him more than anyone, the idea of betraying him scared Darby so much he lost it

It's kind of funny to think that all of the stakes Jotaro kept putting on the table were safe (ish). If he lost here, the gang's done. Not cuz he's the MC, cuz he's the only one left who even had a chance against D'arby. Plus Jotaro's mom would be dead if that were the case, so why not bet her soul too. She wouldn't complain. lol
I have only cosplayed once in my life and it was as this man. Unfortunately no one knew who I was because I cosplayed him in like 2014, when no one knew who D'Arby - or Jojo, really - was.
one issue i had with this episode, is that there are only 2 things that beat 4 of a kind in poker, and since darbie's quads were kings, one of those was automatically locked out.
In the video game Eyes of Heaven, Jotaro and D'arby face off in poker again. You get to make this man shit himself in real time by bluffing or getting lucky.
Jotaro purposely lighting the cigarette's and getting a drink was to throw D'arby off his game, especially since he failed to notice the drink, that means he could also have failed to notice the cards being swapped.
it would kinda suck if Jotaro just got lucky, if he got good cards then there wouldn't be any skill involved. That is why i really like this episode, Araki made him bluff, something that not everyone can make right
technically Jotaro could have achieved a royal flush with a joker available. It can count as the king in that case. Jotaro demanded D'arby match with the secret of dio's stand, but d'arby folded, so he never put that knowledge on the table.
Just like with 99% of "Araki forgot" that some fans keep on repeating ad infinitum and ignore easily established explanations, no he could not because Hamon is easily visible to anyone. Let alone D'arby. How can some fans forget something so basic is beyond me.
Ah yes, Joseph the master of outsmarting his enemy and not using violence. Definitely not the same mf who brought a tommy gun and a dozen hand grenades to a populated bar in New York for the sole purpose of absolutely SMOKING a vampire. Couldn’t be him

Fun fact: in the OG Capcom jojo fighting game, if you got a game over D'arby would roll up, call Osiris, and transform your character into a chip
Jotaro has the Ultimate Poker face
The joker card in poker is a wild-card. If you have it, it can be any card you need.
One of Jotaro's biggest W ever
God I wish I had balls like jotaro
Honestly I like the dub explanation for why jotaro bet his mom's soul more. I don't remember the exact quote but it boils down to 'if we all lose our souls here, my mom's dead anyway so betting her life here won't actually change anything.'. It's a lot more sensible then just 'She'd be fine with it. We came here for her after all.'.
Man said no one's left alive if I don't bluff this so might as well.
If you enjoyed the gambling scenes so much in this two parter, you should consider checking out Kaiji Ultimate Survivor!

To be fair, I think Young Joseph was almost as violent as Jotaro was, at least before the training with Lisa Lisa.
8:02 wow, that Yare Yare Daze made me feel things ...
I think the thing that really break Darby is Dios secret, this is the one time that how Dio runs his organisation back fired, because all his side henchmen fear him more than anyone, the idea of betraying him scared Darby so much he lost it
the way Jotaro pokers is how i play Yu-Gi-Oh
but i also deal cards like D'arby
"Are you gonna call or fold?! Say it out loud right now, D A R B Y !"
Seria interessante ver Alicia e o Ant falarem qual stand gostariam de ter no mundo real. Para mim, o Wheel Of Fortune seria perfeito.
I feel I would be remiss not to mention a common fan theory: Jotaro doesn't even know how to play Poker.
Damm I can´t believe Barby breathed so hard he imploded
Mel Gibson does the not looking at your hand thing in the movie Maverick. But it was two years AFTER Jotaro did it.
I just like to imagine some of them stolen souls going back to their bodies but they were gone for too long they already got buried lmao.
23:10 Yup! Jottaro Ace Attorneyed his way out of this situation!
This is absolutely my favourite episode of part 3. The fact that Jotaro beat a gambler who cheats by NOT cheating is just… so rad
Friendly reminder that the opening changes in the final 2 episodes of Part 3.
Also it would be nice to see your reaction to a new opening when you see it for the first time in context of the show. I know you already have a reaction to all the openings blindly, but it would be fun to see your reaction once again while you know whats going on!
She wouldn't complain. lol
POG. awesome fight and great episodes with G'Arby!
I feel bad for D'Arby. In the end he was just a dude who loved games and gambling a lot, and got corrupted by stand powers.
I have only cosplayed once in my life and it was as this man.
Unfortunately no one knew who I was because I cosplayed him in like 2014, when no one knew who D'Arby - or Jojo, really - was.
BEHOLD, THE MOMENT THAT SPAWNED YUGIOH
one issue i had with this episode, is that there are only 2 things that beat 4 of a kind in poker, and since darbie's quads were kings, one of those was automatically locked out.
6:20, Darby already said last episode that he owned the cat.
she knows, she noticed it later, the episodes are recorded in advance.
In the video game Eyes of Heaven, Jotaro and D'arby face off in poker again. You get to make this man shit himself in real time by bluffing or getting lucky.
Jotaro won with his serious poker face
Jotaro purposely lighting the cigarette's and getting a drink was to throw D'arby off his game, especially since he failed to notice the drink, that means he could also have failed to notice the cards being swapped.
it would kinda suck if Jotaro just got lucky, if he got good cards then there wouldn't be any skill involved. That is why i really like this episode, Araki made him bluff, something that not everyone can make right
Jotaro confidently made a greatest cheater dizzy, lost of breath and speak, instantly aged, fainted
Such a gigachad🗿
technically Jotaro could have achieved a royal flush with a joker available. It can count as the king in that case.
Jotaro demanded D'arby match with the secret of dio's stand, but d'arby folded, so he never put that knowledge on the table.
I always kinda wondered still, do we actually know if the soul-stealing effect would still be in effect if D'arby was knocked out or outright killed?
If he was knocked out, yes.
If he was killed all the souls would die alongside him.
The D'arby fight is always awesome
Joseph really forgot he had hamon to keep the liquid in glass
Darby would see the hamon though
Mr Joester, what are all these sparks and light rays.
Just like with 99% of "Araki forgot" that some fans keep on repeating ad infinitum and ignore easily established explanations, no he could not because Hamon is easily visible to anyone. Let alone D'arby. How can some fans forget something so basic is beyond me.
“what’s it gonna be Darby what’s it gonna fucking be?!?!”
I don’t know how many people are actually going to get that one to be honest…
Ah yes, Joseph the master of outsmarting his enemy and not using violence. Definitely not the same mf who brought a tommy gun and a dozen hand grenades to a populated bar in New York for the sole purpose of absolutely SMOKING a vampire. Couldn’t be him

Peak Jotaro
I wasn't a huge fan of Jotaro at first, but he grew on me. This was the episode that solidified my love for the character though.
