How to Annotate Books and Remember What You Read (Annotating Wuthering Heights)
มุมมอง 10Kปีที่แล้ว
welcome back to my annotation series! today we're taking a look at the "full monty" method from my original annotation video. i don't recommend using this method all the time, but if you really want to commit to a book (perhaps on a reread?) give this a try! basically, write notes, question, highlight, tab, and summarize! this method is great for classic literature you want to analyze and proba...

You dare to advice people to damage books by highlighting and write on the book pages?! You damage books. Do you realize they can be read by other people? Yeah yeah you bought these but these use public resources and you DAMAGE what can be reused...
binge-watching your channel and desperately hoping that you make another comeback soon!!! your annotation system is top tier and exactly what i have been looking for, and i love how thoughtful, intentional, and soothing all of your bookish content is <3 i hope all is well 💖

Thanks for uploading a TRUE annotating video ... Also: Love your reading selections!
How do you study the words that you are unfamiliar with? I am trying to expand my vocabulary, but I am struggling to retain what I look up. I loved the last method you presented 🩷
Hey, not sure if you saw this but she pinned a comment with another video she made about this exact topic. You may want to check it out😊
What are the purpose of tabs and how do you use them specifically?
Hey, I just saw this but hope it is helpful. I think everyone finds a different purpose for tabs but here are some that I am familiar with. I have seen a lot of people leave them blank simply to just guide them to the passage they want to see. You think a tab is just easier to find directly what you want and on that page which you have tabbed will still be something else, highlighting or underlining for instance. Another thing I have seen is tabs being a preview of what is on that page. Of course you cannot copy down the entire quotation most likely but it can be a word to trigger your memory or a topic. Captive also being used as indicators for topics or something else. You would before Reading associate a certain colour of tab or even design on a tab with something specific like a topic. This would just be a substitution for highlighting or underlining if that is what you prefer. Although, I think it is about deciding how you want to annotate your books and then figuring out where tabs play a role which will help develop your style. Everyone will do it differently which is amazing as we all have different needs. For example, a reader enjoying a romance book will annotate differently than a student who is planning to put together an essay afterwards and therefore needs exact quotations and different information. I hope this with useful and if you have any questions please let me know. As well I talk into my device so I apologize for the mistakes but have a great week and happy Reading😊
All the videos Ive seen people have beautifully annotated book that are artsy. I dont annotate like rhat at all. I use 1 highlighter (whatevere coloe I choose which has nothing to do with anything, just whatever I feel at the time), and a pen. I highlight anything that resonatesnwith me or I fight interesting. I underline words I do not know and write the definition in the margin around the area the word is in. I then reread the that part to understand the word and context. That's it. Simple, effective.
I listen to a lot of audio books and this would probably be super helpful. 💖 I could take your technique but annotate in a notebook.
"Make it Messy" Now that's one I can definitely do 😄 These are all great, TYSM
the realest one on these type of videos!! appreciate it, and also i love ur nails theyre so pretty
haha thank you!
The Readwise app for the phone allows you to take a picture of the page, then highlight the parts of the page you want, and then it just stores the text in your Readwise database. I thought that this might be good for your flow of photographing pages - and with the Readwise app, you even can assign it to the book and have it all in one collection. I really like that.
thanks so much for this recommendation!! i’m going to try it out
That's very cool, TY!
did you crochet your shirt??? i crochet and i love it!!!
i did!! thank you :)
Best Video on Annotating a book. Tfs
Thanks so much!
Hi, this is John. I appreciate that there are other ways to mark parts of the book to remember passages, chapters, and events in the book. This year, I want to go back to my avocation of reading books. May I ask if you are a writer or plan to be? I think you would be a good writer. Thank you. Have a blessed year ahead.
Thank you, John! I’m glad you enjoyed this. And yes, I do like to write :)
I'm so glad I found this video (which is well done btw)
This is the best annotating video Ive seen. I want to annotate more but would feel overwhelmed. So this is helpful! I appreciate you focus on function rather than aesthetics!
Hey can ya help me with murakami's books .. i don't know which one should i read first and further , so can you please help me with it. 😢😣
I don't trust people who don't write on books, you could save alot of time by just writing all of the characters in one page sheet, vacab in the book itself. Post it is okay, but rather enjoying, you are doing labor, stop this!
What an incredibly rude and pointless comment. Who cares what you think? Nobody 😂
@@ADHreaDswell, at least you seems to care! Muchas gracias for that 😘
Why no one is talking about such a sick bookmark?! Great one!
Where did you go :(
omg this video is so good and detailed!! i annotate every single book i read because im dramatic like that and i love interacting with my books, even if with just a pencil or just tabs. it makes me feel more connected to it <3
The algorithm worked! It suggested me your channel, and we seem to have exactly the same taste. Midnight children is a book I didn't know I have to read, but hearing you talk about it I realize it's exactly what I'm looking for. I loved 100 years of solitude and I'm making my way through everything I can that has magical realism.
what else is on your list?? please share! still reading midnight's children and I can only continue to recommend it
@@lislibrary Como agua para chocolate me encantó, me recordó a 100 años de soledad. Y luego The bear and the nightingale aunque ya tiene elementos fantásticos y no sólo realismo mágico es precioso y está muy bien escrito
I really like method 8
I'm sorry but the book looks messy and dirty af... 😬
I just picked up 100 years of solitude and now you have me so excited to read it! Thank you for your excellent breakdown of different types of annotation and ways of doing it.
You're going to have such a wonderful time! So glad this helped!!
Incredibly helpful! Thanks for sharing!!
that's a very mindful way to approach annotating. I agree with what you said, it has to make sense and motivate you to read, not the opposite
Kudos to you, I will get bored with the book if I spend 45 min for each chapter
Yeah! You are back! 😃
hey there!! glad to see you :)
Missed you my queen! Watching your videos make my heart happy!
Oh thank you so much!
You are back ahhhhhh
Glad to have you here!
Hi! Umm... I just wanted to let you know, as an Indian, that almost all the words that you searched were not "pure hindi". You must be knowing about India having a vast number of religions, from which Hinduism and Islam are two of the biggest. We all mostly speak hindi, unless we are bilingual which most Indians are. Pure hindi siders or speakers, like me, don't really use these many urdu words in our daily life convos. The words you searched were almost all Urdu words. These got mixed in hindi when the Mughal emperors ruled India between 16th-19th century. We do have an alternate word for the same in hindi, but we don't notice the diff anymore. It's all just one language now. Maybe because the writer is Muslim, he wrote Urdu words more. Anyways, this doesn't really affect anything but I thought you should know more about what you are reading. I might be helpful in your booktalk too. Have a great day :)
Thanks for letting me know! The narrator is indeed Muslim, so that makes sense. Yes, the linguistic diversity of India never fails to impress me!!
I was also thinking, since the partition of India plays such a key role in the novel (it hasn't happened as of chapter 5, but soon), the politics of language and the Hindi-Urdu split may start to play a larger role. Thanks so much for pointing this out. As a linguistics student, its super fascinating!!
omg li!!!! i love your videos and i was hoping you would come back! so glad you did 💗
this warms my heart!! thank you 🥹🥹
Wait a minute! You just vanished into thin air one day for half a century ago and all kinds of gloomy thoughts whirled in my mind and then just as sudden as you were gone once, you are now back like a bolt from the blue and just keep on annotating. To put it very mildly, I'm thoroughly bewildered. Is it really you? What happened? I am so relieved that you are back fully alive and in one piece. So happy!
Hey there! I did pull quite the disappearing act... I went to Barcelona and thought I might never come back, but then I did. Here I am, in one piece as far as I can tell. I never stopped annotating and now I'm back to tell the tale (or dole out more tips, if I haven't run out yet...) It's great to hear from you!
We’ve missed you Queen! ❤
YOU’RE BACK JUST AS I FINISHED MY SEMESTER 😭😭
haha the end of the semester was the reason i was able to return 😅😅 hopefully i can keep the content coming for the fall semester!
@@lislibrary looking forward to it :D
I love your annotating videos!

Ahhh missed you!!
so glad to have you here!!
HOW did you know I was just looking at your channel a few days ago, wondering if you would come back? Srsly kinda creepy. Is my house bugged? ;) I will save this for a treat and motivation to get some work done first!
great minds think alike... thanks for the support! <3

Hey! I'm going into my freshman year of high school and this will be super helpful for getting into my reading habits. Thank you so much! +1 Sub and +1 Like!
I'm so glad! Good luck with your first year!
I could do a video like that too, because I took all my 'borrowed' books out of my main bookshelf and put them aside and now I have a lot of new space again...
thank you fot the video 💚
You're welcome 😊
This is great: a really useful range of ideas to suit every book and situation. I'm going to recommend it to my students! Thank you for your clear explanation.
I'm so glad to hear that!! It warms my heart to know an English teacher is watching 🥰
This was so helpful! It's also so much fun seeing you showing it all with so much joy. Thankyou for the video!
Thank you!
Hi I am a student in a french highshcool, and I have to read a lot of classic french novels which are very long and like with some parts that are quite boring, I feel like I just know the story generally and during the test about the book I usually get good grades since the question were like based on the general story and no details. But once we had to read a book from Guy de Maupassant (an amazing french witer, at least for me ; ) ) called Bel-Ami ( I reccomend it) And during the test the question were just about extremely precise details that I so in the book but forgot since I didn't annotated it. So I learned my lesson thank you so much for this video. ps : would you recommend The Stranger from Albert Camus I was going to read it but idk I always put it aside.
The Stranger was fantastic! So glad this video helped :)
