Solving Long Tesla Repair Times - Our Parts Inventory
One of the biggest issues with repairing electric vehicles is that the current national average repair time is 40-50 days, but at Evolve, our average turnaround time is less than two weeks. How are we able to do it? In this video, Evolve’s CEO, John Sweigart, provides a brief tour of Evolve’s expansive EV parts inventory, and discusses the importance of maintaining a large inventory of parts to ensure that our repair times are as quick as possible.

Thank you for the informative video. I am apart of an auto glass company and we sell franchises. Just to clarify, our franchisees do have the ability to complete full calibrations on 97% of all vehicles. Now, Rivian is not one that we can calibrate yet. This is why I’m watching your video. Please do not single out auto glass companies that show up at your driveway, because all of our franchisees are mobile and do have the ability to calibrate. They have different locations to take the car for the calibration.

I don't believe a visual inspection is going to tell you much with an aluminum casting, unless you have a crack the size of the grand canyon. You have to do a dye penetrant or eddy current test. But then you'll probably just uncover a whole ton of defects that were there when the part was initially cast. Do cracks way back there matter? Is that just a bumper support? I feel like if you made a part to mate to those gussets, then filled the whole area with epoxy you could make drop in frame sections.

Being a cast part, I expect crack that can occurs and missed by visual inspection. It would be more logical to also have a load tests applied to observe deflections to see if they are out of specs. Also, you only pointed out they are repairable in this particular case but never mentioned the price. IMO, that’s the key factor whether the car is totaled by the insurance or not.

It looks like in this case the giga casting is undamaged so the repair is quite conventional. I assume if the giga casting was damaged beyond a certain point the repair situation would become quite complicated, hence the insurance companies raise the premium to cover themselves for that eventuality. I’m quite impressed with the strength of the body, looks pretty tough.

So, it also means that these parts have to be designed and tested and everything. Replacement part is robably not from Tesla. They are only interested in NOT having the effort for such parts.... oR they only do it for very few specific parts.

If the front of one Tesla is totaled, the rear could still be used to repair another car. If the rear of a Tesla is crumpled, the front could be used to repair another vehicle. Several million Teslas have been sold. It'll take awhile to get ample used parts, if that is desired, to use for repairs. It's an option.

I had my relatively new Hyundai totaled out with only 49'800 km on it for rear end collision that crushed the trunk and rear quarter panels in a foot and crack the sub frame.
