Kate Bush - The Sensual World ALBUM REACTION
The Sensual World feels like a natural progression of Bush's work from what she did on Hounds of Love, albeit a bit more accessible and commercial in its appeal.

this album is nuts
The arrangement and production you’re appreciating are the work of Porter Wagoner. Although RCA Nashville co-President Bob Ferguson was credited on her albums as arranger and producer, it was really Porter Wagoner who did it. The year after Jolene he re-negotiated their contracts and the label retroactively gave him production credit for these songs on her Best of Dolly Parton album the next year. Also, he is the subject of I Will Always Love You. He hired her as his tv show and touring company’s “girl singer” in 1967 and she agreed to stay five years. During that time, her star ascended as his declined, and their duets surpassed the fame of each of them for a while. She ended up staying for seven years during which he chose the songs for her solo albums as well as their duet albums, chose the songs for them to perform on his tv show each weekend, and chose the songs for their live concerts each week on the road. He was very controlling and she didn’t have much freedom, so they fought a lot, especially over his not wanting her to leave. Eventually she told him how she felt in song, and it helped him understand why she needed to go off on her own. She left and became a superstar, then sued her for breech of contract, settled out of court, and they made up about a decade later and remained close friends until his death, when she sang I Will Always Love You to him by his side on his deathbed.
Kashka from Baghdad talks about two gay men loving themseves secretly
Little Feats Live album Waiting For Columbus is a cool Funky Country album that's well worth checking out. Cheers!
For a great love song by Beefheart without the raspy vocals check out Candle Mambo
I remember listening to this album when it first came out. The more I listened to it, I kind of became obsessed with it. It draws you in. You keep hearing new things, new sounds, and new meanings. It's a powerful piece of work. Kate Bush's influence on modern music cannot be understated. She and Bowie are definitely in their own league. I'm glad you're enjoying her.
If you’re interested in another Townes album i’d highly recommend Our Mother the Mountain.
Great review of a great album. Took me years to properly appreciate the genius of this
Pull out the pin is the Vietnam War - seen from the viewpoint of a Vietcong soldier - only Kate would think yo do that
have always thought of eight line poem when listening to this song....both lovely songs
hell yeahhhhh, subscribed my man
Thank you! Any country recs you'd like to add?
@@Randyjoe213 John Prine's Self Titled for more of that 70's Austin Texas Folksy Country is my #1 recco but for something different but still country we got Magnolia Electric Co. which is probably one of the greatest Country Rock-ish leaning country, and for something more Indie-Slacker rockish but still has that country spirit it has to be The Natural Bridge by Silver Jews, David Berman the lead singer in this band is my favorite lyricist ever and his latest album with a new band called Purple Mountains is my favorite album of all time, which talks more about his depression and suicidal ideation, and he sadly passed away by suicide less than a month after release, but yeah, more Indie Rock-ish but you can feel the country spirit
Oh I'm sorry I didn't realize you were the commenter I mentioned in the video 😅 but for sure I will be covering some albums you've mentioned. Thank you!
@@FoamTank Definitely got to have some Silver Jews, David Berman was an incredible lyricist.
I love this sort of music if you haven’t you should check out ringo by lorne greene
I’m seeing them in September and I’m so excited, such a great band.
Funny you say that because I'm seeing them tonight and I'm also so excited!
@@Randyjoe213 Sweet have lots of fun! I’ll probably be tuning into the livestream.
@@Randyjoe213 coming back just to say u saw a great show lol, fantastic set list. I’ve been listening to the performance of hypertension all morning 😂
Such a deep low voice he had, great to hear this reaction. Brilliant. Cheers!
One of the greatest art pop albums of all time and we have the CMI to thank for. Story says Bush came across it through Peter Gabriel who was one of the first british musicians to own it. The helicopter sounds that haunt Pull Out The Pin and many other sounds on the album came from this machine. A strong controversial album with the best she had to offer as a musician. Also great reaction! 😊
It Must Be A Camel is a sweet groovy track. Definitely among my fav FZ songs, not only of his instrumentals
I never saw FZ, but I listened to dozens of FZ albums since the 90's. I saw several FZ players perform: Jimmy Carl Black, Bunk Gardner, Don Preston, Ike Willis, and a group called the Band From Utopia. I don't know the 80's roster to well but the Grandmothers were fun for me the most, with Ike's band 2nd and Utopia 3rd. Also saw Dweezil- Zappa Plays Zappa which was better then the other FZ bands
the wyclef piano teasing u was probably the most entertaining thing this whole reaction 😂😂
The jamaican equivalent of rapping is called DJ-ing n the song champion hes saying she walks like a champion n talks like a champio xyz... he's basically saying there's a lady n shes thick af n she needs to stop holding out n let him hit.
Looking forward to August Country, I've very little knowledge of Country living in England. Cheers!
please do these country albums puhleaaaase, Purgatory, Wrecking Ball, Townes Van Zandt, Purple Mountains, The Natural Bridge, American Water, Magnolia Electric Co., Munly & The Lee Lewis Harlots, My Life, John Prine, In Spite of Ourselves, Viva Terlingua, GP, Car Wheels on a Gravel Road, Furnace Room Lullaby, Cold Roses, Same Trailer Different Park, High on Tulsa Heat, Home is Bluegrass, but do that as well puhleaase
Oh my 😅 that's a lot of albums! I'll do my best to cover a few of these but I typically aim for 10 albums per month for each genre. Of these recommendations, is there one or two you'd recommend the most?
@@Randyjoe213 for the 70's folksy Austin country it's either John Prine's Self Titled, and Townes Van Zandt self titled, for a great modern contemporary country album I'd have to go with Childer's Purgatory or Zach Bryan's Self Titled, greatest modern bluegrass album of all time is Home by the strumming virtuoso Billy Strings, here are more alt rock with a country-ish tone is with the late David Berman's output with Silver Jews and his latest band Purple Mountains, American Water, The Natural Bridge, and Purple Mountain's self titled which I consider to be the greatest album ever made of all time, another album in this scheme is Magnolia Electric Co. which I definitely know you're going to do for this month so I'll probably have to choose another. For Gothic Country it's all of Jay Munly's output in his multiple bands and in his own self releases, I like Munly & The Lee Lewis Harlots the best in the are but Sixteen Horsepower's Sackcloth n Ashes is really good as well. Alt-Country with Emmylou Harris' Wrecking Ball is peak for a country singer who is pivoting to alt stuff, sorry Cash, Neko Case is very good as well, I love her so much fuck it I'll just choose Townes Van Zandt why not..
There is so much more God..
Hi and thanks for this very unexpected review. I have a very soft spot for Marty Robbins, as my dad was a huge fan and so I grew up listening to his music quite a lot, and even though Punk was my own personal preference as I got older, I always maintained an affinity for the very best of Country music, and other genres, largely instilled into me by my parents. So, this was a very refreshing reminder of things from a very happy place in my younger days. Yes, for me, this album is maybe a bit same-y in places, but I still think that 'Big Iron' 'El Paso' and 'Cool Water. are superb songs. I do still think that 'Devil Woman' and 'This Time You Gave Me a Mountain' are his best songs, but that trio of songs on this on this album are well worth the price all by themselves. Thanks again. I really enjoyed this.
You're welcome! I'll definitely be checking out more of his music at some point given how much I enjoy the concept of this record and the way he approaches country music. Nice easy listening Country that's well made and entertaining
He was one of my mom's favorites. I like him too. Brings back a lot of memories. I do remember he wore a black hat and got killed in most songs. It sure worked for him. Thanks for the reaction.
For the uninitiated, I highly recommend the Zappa album "Läther" (1996). It really has something for everyone: Guitar centric songs, Bass centric songs, Piano/Keyboard centric songs, Horn centric songs, Orchestral songs, Story-based songs, and random silliness (ex "Let Me Take You to the Beach").
damn son at least do it in the proper order before you criticize and understand how to turn up audio seriously
What do you mean "the proper order"? This is the exact same tracklist as anywhere else and I praise this album from start to finish.
Love your reaction to this album. I love it when music loses its structure or direction and goes off on a mad journey. Not everyone feels this way of course. Cheers!
This album was the first music recorded on the brand new 16 track tape machine, allowing Zappa to unleash multiple Ian Underwood tracks, of course, all composed by Zappa... Certainly, Ian Underwood is a great musician but he's playing charts written by Zappa, except for a couple solos...
One of my favorite jazz records of all time! Boundary pushing classic.
Damn I absolutely love duran duran
Never heard this before. Sounds really great. Cheers!
Love this album....if you love bass and lyrics, (the poet laureate of Rock is Elvis). You have a great ear....you go right to the diamonds in the rough - everyone goes right to Pump It Up, but you highlighted how strong some of the the other songs are. You will love "Get Happy" and a number of other Elvis albums.
This us such a beautiful record! So cool you do these lesser popular albums (in a mainstream way I mean). 🎉
If you listen closely to Joe Morello's drumming, especially when he's using brushes, he often plays in 4/4 throughout, even if the song is in 3/4 or 5/4. It still works.
Very glad I preordered this one, such a fun time
Gonna try and collect as many albums of theirs as I can. This one sounds amazing! Cheers.
Have you checked out their music before? If not, you're in for a treat because their discography is a wild ride for any music fan.
@@Randyjoe213 For reals. It was so much fun diving into King Gizz when I first discovered them a few years ago. Everything they do is interesting. By far my favorite band.
It's very hard to choose between 3 and 4. 1 and 2 are great as well. The 5th album from 1970 'Till the band comes in" is also excellent. Scott is the man.
Inna Heights in my opinion is his best album and better than this album. Almost every song on that album is awesome, on this album half of the songs are meh. Inna Heights. Please check that one out.
AFAIK, as usual, most or even all of this is through-composed sheet music by Zappa. There may be some windows for the individual artists' improvisations, but most is FZ's composition.
A cool and stylish album. That Take 5 track was used heavily in the 80's and 90's in advertising in the U.K. Don't know if this was also the case in the U.S. Cheers!
It's back on spotify.
Thanks for the reaction. Excellent remarks. I will recommend some more of Zappa's masterpieces: Studio Tan, Waka Jawaka, Grand Wazoo, Sleep Dirt. And if you are ready to move away from jazz, then I highly recommend Over-Nite Sensation, Joe's Garage, Sheik Yerbouti and Zoot Allures.
Great album, thanks for the breakdown.....this Frank album always makes me think of crickets and grasshoppers and that farts i can tell you.
Check out Death - Human album. It’s an amazing thrash album with fretless bass, guitar riffs and high intensity drumming.
Basically every teen at the time had a copy of this album and it got no air play at all
Great video. Great album.
This record is before the funk of Headhunters and is very influenced by Bitches Brew era Miles. Headhunters is probably his 7th best record.
As far as the ‘spacey’ aspect, bear in mind the synthesizer (the grand-daddy of all keyboards currently used) was still in its infancy… folks were still testing what it could and couldn’t do musically.
Great review man! Big fan!
BACK IN THE DAY... Zappa would usually start his concerts with "Peaches", just to warm everyone up. Part of a group of instrumental albums Zappa put out. Along side are these sister albums: Waka-Jawak, Sleep Dirt, + Grand Wazoo.
