New Grass is sublime. One of my favourite pieces of music ever. Hollis said : “Before you play two notes, learn how to play one. And don’t play one unless you’ve got a reason to play it.” He was once asked his favourite musician. “Kate Bush,” he said. Kate Bush was then asked hers. "Mark Hollis," she said.
I'd recommend looking up information about this album's creation and Mark Hollis' philosphy on creating music, it's really interesting to read about (at least it was for me). Also this is absolutely my #1 all time album, nothing comes close to how this album makes me feel.
Love this album. Definitely influenced Radiohead. Mark Hollis was truly talented. Also love Spiderland by Slint. The For Carnation, made up of members of Slint, were also great. Cheers!
Great video and a huge congratulations on your 1k subscribers! Love your videos and how you actually react the whole Way through the video and have informed takes and references. Thank you! Very nice catch on the Radiohead reference. Somehow I never drew that parallel but it seems so obvious now that you said it.
Greatest albums of all time: 1. OK Computer 2. Laughing Stock 3. Spirit of Eden Talk Talk invented Post Rock with “Spirit…” and without these albums there would be no Radiohead The drummer, Lee Harris, has recently made an album with Beth Gibbons - “Lives Outgrown”. You should take a listen RIP Mark Hollis
