Yep..Look at the date of the video. Things improved over the years.
Hi friend, when you connect the Candoo to another Sea Doo 3D that you have there, what is the air pressure reading with the engine off?
It reads extremely low. about 6 psi. Both of my machines read that low. I am guessing there is an issue with the candoo pro reading properly on that machine
@SeadooRefurb I have a 2005 3D RFI like yours, I also have the Candoo and the BUDS and in both the air pressure reading is lower than the real one. Here I have a reading with the engine off of 5.7 PSI. I believe that the ECU is programmed to display a simulated reading instead of the real one, I've had several problems with mine and I've fixed a lot of things on it, in your case the pressure is really low and this affects the air/fuel ratio pairs so the engine runs unevenly and stalls. Your problem is probably in the ECU.
@ that is my thought as well. I am trying to find a replacement but they are crazy expensive.
There are some tests you could do, have you tried disconnecting the TPS to check if the pressure remained low? Have you tried to test the resistance of all other sensors according to the reference in the sea doo maintenance manual?
i want to buy a 2005 seadoo gtx supercharged for 500$ US. The guy says it needs a new control module, should I go for it? is it worth it? (I have a candoo)
500 is a pretty screaming deal. The control modules can be expensive and you don't know for sure if that is the only problem.
@ yea I’m not gonna be able to get compression numbers until I get the control module. Or hours on it either.
@@addielb8086 You can jump the starter to get the engine to roll over and check compression
Looks real nice Matt. Have a good winter.
Does this model come with a standard bilge pump? Thinking about installing one on my 01 GS.
No bildge pump on these. I only ever saw them on the xpdi's. I don't see the purpose of one unless you leave them sitting in the water for a prolonged period of time.
@@SeadooRefurb Thanks for the reply! The only purpose would be an insurance in the case of an unexpected carbon ring failure.
That's a lot easier and quicker than the way the shop manual has you do it
I bought that same dang Kemso fuel pump for a DI model. Those things are JUNK!! I chased that damn bad pump (thinking "it's new. It can't be the fuel pump") for MONTHS!
Awesome job
Another di great video and info. But testing equipment is why you can't always cheap out 😊
No kidding. So hard to find good tools these days.
@@SeadooRefurbwhere are you located
Another great job Matt. Keep them coming.
Thank you for sharing these troubleshooting videos. Do you think DI is better than carb engines? Seems like carb issues are easier to troubleshoot?
Thank you do much for these videos! Without them, I'd be screwed with my DI 😬
Thank you. Yes the di engine is a challenge !
soo weird i watched all the your jet skis vids few years ago Now i get a 2012 rush 800 and now im HERE :)
Excellent explanation, thanks for all the follow through, just one question: Where the tiny hose, the one that is on the back of the engine below the injectors goes? When you pulled out at the top you cut two hose but the tiny or slim one where exactly goes? From the bottom to where? Thanks
The very thin pipe goes from the bottom of the air compressor and runs to the oil fill tube at the front of the machine. It just recycles excess oil from the bottom of the compressor.
Another great one Matt.
Glad you enjoyed it
Great job, far more patient than I am.
Awesome video, super helpful!
I am lucky both ofy 2002 and 2001 use the same style of fuel rail
I goop the crap out of mine. Too many times of an exhaust leak did to not enough.
I hate the lower exhaust bracket.
Dont need loctitght on the thtottle cable. It gums up for future removal. Locking washer is enough IMHO.
yea ..I know it is over kill. the blue loctite is very forgiving on removal
Have you used the cut-off spark plug with welded eye hook method for lifting the engine. I personally like the angle the engine sits making it a lower profile.
I want to try that. I was afraid of the hook breaking and dropping the engine on the concrete.
"This time it is gonna have tons" hahahahahaha
I have a 2002 that starts and idles great but dies as soon as its in water under throttle. What do you think could be issue?
could be many things . fuel or air issues
Another great video Matt. You’re the best.
Much appreciated !!
Seadoo's product support really sucks. I have a GSX that would work if the dealer's coding machine could create a new key for it. Unfortunately, Seadoo has changed something and the coder they have will not work on the older models. I also have a '97 Seadoo Speedster boat which is in great shape but needs a new starter on one engine. Two dealers have told me they won't work on a boat that old. 12 years ago I damaged one of thrusters on this boat but no part were available from Seadoo. [the boat was only 15yrs old at that time] Fortunately I found a salvage dealer out in California who said he thought the thruster from another model of a jet ski would work on my speedster. . I got it and if fit except that it was 1/4 in shorter which didn't make any difference. I guess is that Seadoo expects everyone to just junk their boat and buy a new one after about 10 years. .
I went through the same thing with my 2011 Challenger a few years ago. I needed a simple navigation light switch and they told me the boat was vintage and no parts were available. (only 10 years old at the time !) That prompted me to sell the boat off as I was afraid at the time that if something major went wrong I would be toast !... Now I just stick to the 2 strokes. Lots of parts out there. (I am sure there are lots of parts for the 4 strokes as well )
How much do you charge to work on one? I have found crack on the inside of my bottom end where the crankshaft is.
I usually do the repairs at costs . (It creates video content)
@@SeadooRefurb ok where are you located at? I have a hole and there is water coming from it. The hole sit right in between the intake manifold right under the spark plug holder

You gotta love a seadoo to be able to work on them and to follow behind someone else and then the customer tells you it was just running and then shut off. But that's what keeps us working and in business 😊😊
I am shocked at the condition these machines are in when they arrive. Not one has been in good condition ...
I love watching this guy fix stuff, sum things are a challenge but he works it out. Wish he lived in New Zealand up in the bay of islands in my home town.Great machanics are hard to come by here. Keep up with episodes,so cool to watch and learn sum tricks. I have 02 gtx di and at the moment it's running sweet fingers crossed!
love your videos. very informative. i have a 2005 Seadoo sportster le di with the 951 and it has a charging issue. i "think" the only thing left is the stator to be tested/replaced. Suggestions? Can it be replaced without pulling it out of the boat? Thanks in advance for your help
Did you check the rectifier ? Un plug it and see if you get high voltage at the battery. It could be just a bad recitfier or bad battery. There is also a fuse for the charging. See if that is good as well. If all that is bad then changing the stator can be a challenge. You need to remove the exhaust to get to the front of the motor to remove the stator cover. Oil lines and cables will be your challenge.
Hi, I have a seadoo GTX rfi 2002 do you have any video about to replace the oil filter and oil lines.? Step by step
I have not replaced any oil lines. They always seemed to be ok. Only thing I ever did was trim off a small amount off the ends and re attached them.
What rpm should these be getting. Got mine running quite well but it maxes out at 6k rpm.
6800. Sounds like rave valves are not opening up .
@@SeadooRefurb thanks can the candoo software test the rave valves ?
@@infamoussgarage They can confirm that the rave solenoid is activating. You can also remove the black caps and confirm that the springs are in there and you can try to move the valves up and down to confirm they are not seized. You can also unplug the solenoid and apply 12volts to it to see if it clicks.
I absolutely love those old 947/951 rotex motors. They make soo much power and are so simple.
I have same one, same year 2001 same colour with same DIY 4 bolts on front hatch, with 245 hours, felt pain in my stomack when you sad that you dont need hull, 😢 😢 my hull is esteticly much worst . I am sad that you are far far far away😢😢😢😢
I’m currently working on a RxDi model. I need some help. I have a maintenance light that is blinking. Where do I plug the scanner into to scan for the codes?
You said can get the jug done cheaply. Would you care to share who you trust for said work?
That's two that you have torn down with a chunk missing from the piston and both were factory pistons but I never saw you tear down the rave valves and check the springs to see if is broken causing it to hit the piston. But you are definitely the seadoo DI God I like watching you work on them but I hate a di I'll take a carb engine any day 😂
I did pull the raves and no issue. Only thing I did not like is they were running incorrect air injectors. I had your same thoughts about the mag side piston. Not knowing any history it is hard to figure out what is going on but I intend to try.
Garage mechanic
Yep...Much better than working in the yard. Too hot in the sun.
2001seadoo GTX DI the engine starts fine then stales out after 10 minutes . starts but wont stay running but if you hold the throttle it runs what you think is the problem
I have a blinking maintenance light on. What do I need to read the maintenance light.
Cando pro reader is about the cheapest reader I have seen. Check to see if the diagnostic cap is on. Make sure oil is full. Make sure you have good amount of fuel. Check all electrical connections.
@@SeadooRefurb ok this is my first sea doo so I’m a green horn on this but where is the diagnosis cap at?
It is attached to the hood shock under the plastic storage bucket
@@SeadooRefurb awesome thank you. Now how do you change and check oil on that engine? 947/951cc engine
And where is it located at on the engine?
Zero is good right? 😂😂
Good job there, your far more patient than me. I have a 2002 DI and arent they a treat to trouble shoot when they stop running properly.
They are a nightmare but once they work..they run awesome..
Love watching your videos, I have a 2002 gtx DI and was curious what RPM they run at WOT.
They vary but roughly 6800-6900 rpm
Great videos you make! I have a question regarding my 01 GTX Di and I’m new to jet skis. When starting it cranks over no problem, but to get it to run I have to squirt a shot of carb cleaner in the throttle body. Then it will run all day, but let it sit for 24 hours and it’s back to not wanting to run again unless it sniffs some carb cleaner. I replaced the fuel pump, fuel filter, and fuel regulator all with Quantum parts. Removed the fuel and air injectors and cleaned them the best I could and replaced the spark plugs, great spark, but it still doesn’t want to run unless I give a little spray of carb cleaner, which I hate doing. I’m waiting on my tool to arrive so I can check fuel pressure at the rail, which is taking some time to get to me, but I’m running out of ideas on what it could be? Could it be the fuel pressure? Hoping you could give an idea to look into, thank you.
It would seem that you are loosing air or fuel pressure. The Jet boat we were working on did the same thing. I did not use carb cleaner but had to crank it a long while to get it to start. My best guess was that the fuel pump had a bad check valve in it. ( I had a quantum pump do the same thing) You need to hook up some air and fuel gauges to see what is happeing.
Any clue how water got into the air compressor line?
Hard to say but there was alot. Most likely water got sucked into the air compressor at the vent
While flipping through I saw your channel. I had to see what you were up to. Watching you brought back my nightmares lol. I bought the same boat new in 2000 but it had two engines. My first couple years were great then I had to really work on it. I would wrap up my days with bruised ribs every time I had to do anything under the hood, there was no room which I'm sure you know lol. I loved that boat but I had to sell it because I didn't have a place I could pull the motors at. I also couldn't afford the 185.00 per hour for the shop to work on it. Now I'm back to boats with car engines and LOTS OF ROOM UNDER THE HOOD LOL. My thoughts and prayers are with you!!
Too funny..I was just wondering the next day why my ribs were killing me ! You hang over that seat back for hours at a time ...:)
Just got my seat cover the same one you have. Where is the best place to start when installing it ? And also did you have to trim any parts off.
Remove the old cover and all the staples. Make sure new staples are stainless steel or they will rust very quickly. I am not an upholstery guy so from that point it was just put a couple staples in the front and a couple in the back and slowly work my way around.
@@SeadooRefurb I was able to get it on. I left the old cover on and went right over it. Used stainless staples as well it came out perfect. Thx for the help.
I quit working on these . They are not worth much and the customers dont want to put a pile of money into them and the parts NLA! I hope they didnt bend you over for the work you put into it and try and ream you . I hope you got paid . This is one of those jobs that will come back and bite you in the ass
All was good. No..it was not worth the $ as I spent all day trying to figure out all the issues but none the less I enjoyed it. I charged him a minimum and advised that there are still alot of issues with boat.
Question with the fuel rail off, and key priming fuel pump. Should I see fuel come out of the injectors ? Really weird the thing starts and runs okay but I see no fuel coming out of the injectors at all.
Not sure what you are doing to see the fuel come out. I assume you pulled the fuel rail off and left everything else connected ?
@@SeadooRefurb yeah I did that, finally isolated the issue. Seems to be a bad air injector
@@infamoussgarage Good find !
I also have a same type of seadoo. How did you get rid of the rattling
PTO bolts were all loose and falling off.
