I have two mesh in an inguinal hernia area though sadly both operations failed. If I scratch the skin above the mesh it seems less sensitive than the other side of my groin which may explain the reason for no pain. The surgeon and I agreed to leave the area alone and not remove the mesh. When I’m emptying my bowl I press the hernia and mesh inward which helps me empty. I’m leaving well alone. Before I occasionally use a truss, I push the hernia down and under the scrotum to flatten the area which works in my situation. 😊
Special exercises /phisiotherapy before and after intervention to improve the layers of the muscle ,what is your advice ?
I am 85 young lady, and I am going to have an inguinal hernia open surgery in 2 weeks . I have discomfort at the site and I am afraid to have a mesh as I have RA condition ,and I am afraid of my immune system being reactive to the mesh. I am active ,I was going to Gym x5 week ,and walking ,hiking. I stopped except my walking ,being afraid to enlarged the hernia. I am very thanksful as you open my mind what should be my choices. It will be no mesh. Thank you for your education , it is very helpful. I will have the repair in Canada.
I had an open inguinal hernia repair with mesh done 15 years ago and 2 years ago got the small fatty tissue recurrence. Had it "fixed" 3 months ago using the TAPP method with mesh again. Unfortunately surgeon screwed it up, just placed the mesh, saying he did not see anything else, and left (or did not repair at all) this fat tissue/lipoma in the inguinal canal and it's still there. Size of about 1-2 cm, defect ca. 1 cm, confirmed by 2 U/S and CT post surgery. Its been 3 moths, now I have burning pain in mons pubis and sometimes up along the gron to the oblique abdominal, also some pain above the whole mesh area (10x15cm). What would you recommend to do now? Another surgeon is proposing open revision, fixing the small hernia/lipoma and freeing-up the nerves. Shall I go for it? I'm from Poland, not dedicated hernia specialist here, just general surgeons. I would wholeheartedly appreciate your view on it.

I have inoperable abdominal cancer - and an inguinal hernia in my scrotum. I’m really worried that the hernia repair will disrupt the stability I’ve had with my cancer as a result of the palliative chemo I’ve been on for three years. Any thoughts on this risk occurring?
I’ve had a long history as a licensed psychologist assessing character. I am now retired. Some people you immediately like and trust. Dr. Towfigh is one of them. I wish she practiced in my area so I could receive her services should I ever need assessment and treatment.
What is percentage of mesh vs shoudice in US?
I want know if there’s anything better than Mesh?
Yes there is. Her name is Dr Towfigh
I want know if there’s anything better than Mesh?
Sholdice, Desarda, and there are a few others.
PA recommendations. I’m willing to consult
Are you refering to doctors?
Looking for one.
@@debbiebaranes4111 I don't know of any in PA. You can check Dr Grishin in OH hernia center.
Good morning
I wish I could find trust. It’s hard to get back once it’s broken.
Thank You for your effort to educate us! Much appreciated!!🪻
Hi
Thank you for attempting to educate us. We really need more doctors like you.
Dr Towfigh your making me think twice about having umbilical hernia surgery with all these nightmarish surgery stories done by what seemed to have been qualified surgeons at the time. 😳
Thank you for caring!
Omg 😮
What is you are just on the border of obese and overweight, would it still be problem for inguinal hernia surgery
Does people with BMI of 30 count as someone whos at high risk of hernia surgery?
I appreciate you can I contact you to get advice?
Hey doc. This is my first ever surgery going in Mar. But the surgeon did say that its must be open, as my can not be Laparoscopic and he is going to cut a nerve called illioguinal nerve. May i ask why does some surgeon pref to cut/excision/neurectomy on the first surgery?
These Physicians are amazing human beings! I'd trust them with my life.
Is it common to have erectile disfunction?
What are your thoughts for the bard 3dmax mesh long term. What would cause issues the surgeon or the mesh
I'm thinking of having umbilical surgery what should I look out for in my Dr consultation? Does everyone who has mesh used have pain and rejection symptoms? Hearing all this information and stories is making me feel uneasy about this whole surgery thing!!
I recently found your channel and I am really enjoying your channel and appreciate your expertise. I do have a bilateral inguinal hernia as well as a small umbilical hernia. I do wonder if it could be a femoral hernia since an ultrasound or CT scan was never performed. As for future programs, I would love to hear more on robotic surgery. I am 64 years old and at a normal weight and very active. Because of osteopenia and osteoporosis I have intentionally in the last two years have really tried to increase the weights I use for building muscle. How realistic would it be to resume a weight training program with progressive overload meaning you go up in weight to increase muscle mass. After a hernia repair will I be able to resume my weight training? I recently have had a highly sensitive CRP test done and my inflammation seems to be high. Would these hernias contribute to this inflammation? I also have hypothyroidism which is being treated as well. Would I be a good candidate for robotic surgery? Thank you for all you do.
London sounds good (pray for diagnosis hopefully gets covered) I’ll be your patient. 😅
I’m a complex patient they hate me & blame the past & health anxiety. I love to learn too. It’s satisfying. I would love to be heard. I can explain well. However nothing I say rings a bell or even gets taken in. You’re my kind of person. Absolutely love your professional & compassionate approach. I have emailed you at your centre. I am a year in being dismissed despite guiding the GP/consultants 🙄 x love hernia talks 🙏thank you for all you do.
Hi Dr. Towfigh. I'm 60 years old and just had bilateral laproscopic inguinal hernia surgery two weeks ago. Things seem to be pretty good but, i have a hard bulge where the left side hernia used to pop out. I've called surgeons office three times and they told me this is normal. I see the surgeon next week. Is this normal? Thank you.
I think you are extremely knowledgeable and experienced in the subject of hernias, simply one of the best. But please Dr Towfigh consider excepting some Insurance cases provided they are confirmed and verified.
Oh great we have to look for a doctor that hopefully knows what the hell he's doing and is familiar with the different mesh products available! Any recommendations of simply how to locate a well educated and trained hernia specialist?
So why would any doctor use mesh in the first place since it has such high potential of causing problems, makes no sense for the patient.
I have indirect inguinal hernia containing fat that is 6.4 x 5.4 x 3.4 cm with 1.4 cm neck. I know it's not huge, but what size classification would it be? I also have a 'small' bilateral hydrocele. Would this be considered an inguinoscrotal hernia? Whatever it is it has caused 100% ED. I assume i should have open surgery to repair the hernia and find out if any nerves or veins have been damaged.
I had inguinal a month and 3 weeks ago. Still getting discomfort but much much better. Life is so much better. Yes theres lots of horror stories but haveing it repaired is better than having guts fall out everytime you stand up walk it really puts pressure on the nerves. I had a massive one that needed attention asap.
Will cord lipomas come back after removal? Mine was removed after an ultrasound showed an inguinal hernia hernia a couple days ago. Mine was not removed laproscopically since the surgeon is still waiting to get his robotic machine sometime early next year. Maybe it takes a long time for these to occur. I was just glad it wasn't a real hernia.
I have bilateral inguinal hernia left 2.5 cm right 1 cm what shiuld I do. Open approach at 6 months interval Tep Or Tapp I am scared of damage to vasdefern vessels nerve or organs which one is more safe And mesh reaction are low in which ?
I just had had the new robotic hernia repair on the 20th. My doctor wrote a note for work saying I can go back to work(light duty) in a week! I’m hurting like hell right now as can hardly work. Surgeon said it two weeks I’m good to go full duty. Don’t see how this is going to be possible because my job is extremely physical. I’m a delivery driver and have to lift heavy boxes all day.
I just got my surgery on the 13th I'm taking 3 weeks off,I'm a truck driver
I have a ventral/umbilical hernia and am a healthy active 70 year old. I have seen a surgeon, Dr. Steven Nishida, who said that I could take a wait see. Two years later it is now larger probably because I work out at the gym. Further, recently I had a worrisome episode where I had some pain and hardening of the hernia. I massaged it and it went away. I live in Hawaii but would travel to the continental US to repair my hernia. What hernia center should I consider.
I have a very tiny Inguenal Hernia without pain but I tried a Hernia belt but after a little time I felt pain so I removed the belt so it doesn’t get worse
Hospitals shouldn’t buy the Hernia meshes since they have complications and risk people’s lives to danger and death
One day after a large lifting and walking I had. Blood in my bowl movement. I have surgery in January but can't find out if this red blood is because of that bad day. It has not happened again, but feel down there like i,I, in my period. I am 81. It is belly hernia is that blood from my activity in lifting big time that day? Bonnie saw you on roku tv
It is a belly button hernia
It only happened one time a week or so ago. It was bright red. Just saw you Monday on n november 18 2024.
Can hernia repair be done with local anesthesia
Please advise who you send your left flank denervation injury to and how do they treat?
Thanks for this video. The most informative I have seen on this topic .
I was feeling better 6 weeks after my umbilical hernia surgery, I could finally sneeze and cough, started doing cardio (walking). Then, on week 7, I sneezed at work and I got a stabbing pain in my left side above the belly button. It stopped me and my tracks. Ever since, I've been extremely sensitive again to sneezing ( plug my nose- it is WAY too painful) or even coughing, I keep having stabbing pains in my left side, I almost thought that my rib was bruised for a minute, because it radiated to my rib. I am now back to week 3 (pain wise). I keep feeling tingling and stabbing pains. Sometimes it feels like tiny knives are stabbing me all over (in my left side). I feel worse than i did before the surgery.
Any opinion on Halsted an Postempski? In my country they dont know well Souldice or Desarda (they are made but not by experienced surgeons and results are not known)
I had robotic double inguinal hernia repair about four years ago and with two polyester implants. It was a huge success, and I learned a lot from Dr. Towfigh's videos. Since then, I have started on the carnivore diet -- butter, beef, bacon, eggs. Now I am starting to think that plant fiber and all that bloating and difficult bowel movements from that is what caused my hernias because of all the internal pressure. This way of eating is amazing.
U didnt have a hernia recurrence
My hernia makes me look about 7 months pregnant
