Direct Polytunnel build part 2. We're moving along with the construction. I've changed the way I'm putting it together from the instructions as I'm working mostly on my own. But so far I'm really impressed witht he quality of the tunnel. Just to mention I paid full price and am not endorsing the product in any way. I am a paying customer just sharing my experience of my purchase. So far so good.

I love finding uses for old things that other people class as rubbish. So with some old mouldy down pipes I've made some seedling pots. As the down pipe is square they sit nicely together in an old plastic tray which in total holds 40 of them. What have you re-cycled for your gardening projects?

    500 watt you get only at fullspeed ... hurricane ! but WHAT BULB ? 50 WATT BULB ? 100 WATT BULB ? you must charge a battery !!! if this is a 100 WATT BULB the turbine RUNS GREAT ! but you need battery ;) because if the bulb 100 watt you see you get 100 watt .. with 100 watt you must charge a battery and then put the bulb on the battery ;)

    You need to hook the wind generator to a MPPT Charge controller then to a good battery then a pure sine wave power inverter to harness it's energy.

    Two years down the line from your video, and Aldi have cordless saws on offer this week, this time, they're 40V ( using their 20/40 volt batteries which are now standard, with a brushless motor. They work very well, and brilliant for £40, my only complaint being, that like yours, they're left handed, so much more natural and easier having the saw blade on the right hand side. Great for left handed folks though! ( as a welshman "in exile" in Northern England, lovely to hear a nice friendly accent, diolch yn fawr!)

    Watching this video there are a few things I'd like to point out. That black box you call a rectifier is not only a rectifier but is also your charge controller. Most likely an MPPT controller and may even have a built-in brake switch, hard to tell from the video though. There is no need for the second PWM controller you hooked up and that may be causing problems in delivering full power to your batteries. Doesn't show how you wired up the light to your batteries, but from watching your newest video and seeing it go on and off, I'm guessing you connected it to the PWM controller load output. If you're wanting to use the PWM to control your light, you should run power to it from the batteries but not have the turbine hooked up to the solar inputs. Also, there is no need to fuse both the positive AND negative leads, just the positive, and you used a much to small a fuse for your turbine. You should have a fuse on all three wires between the turbine and the charge controller rated for 40 amps each. As for not seeing the 500 watts that it's rated for, the seller rated it for 500 watts in a 30+ mph wind, most are rated for a 36mph wind. So unless you're seeing that speed of wind all the time, you're never going to get 500w, or anywhere near that. As the wind speed decrease from the max rating by half, your power output decreases by 8. At 9mph you're only going to be generating about 8 watts at the rectifier/controller. If you're wanting more power in low winds you would need to buy a more powerful turbine.

    I've had a revelation of how to fix both of our turbines, maybe. In stead of the three windings being in parallel, and producing low voltage, how about instead put those three windings in series? So the whole thing wouldn't need rewound. Just the wye connection taken loose and rewired with the windings in series. That would give us both higher voltage output. The difference is there would only be two wires coming out of the generator, the two ends of all the windings. What it would do is triple the voltage, and not much amps. It is my theory that more usable power would be available from just this simple rewiring. Because the voltage will be high enough to regulate instead of too low to light the lamp. That should give you 30+ volts. It was just an idea I had to try, but it might work pretty well. Thought I would share in case you want to try it.

  • @davidpotter9462
    @davidpotter9462 ปีที่แล้ว

    Have you tried hooking it up with a rectifier instead of a charge controller? I did it with mine. The controller they sent was unusable. It was a 24 volts controller, and the turbine rarely reaches that much, and only for a few seconds long. I ordered a rectifier, and hooked it up to charge part of the battery bank, and it works, but after a few hours, I have to switch to the other side of the battery bank. It's a temporary fix. I'll have it apart this summer. The main reason for this comment was, I think I figured out how they rate these turbines. They figured out it will make "so many watts" , but that's with a copper winding. So then when they wind it with aluminum wire, they never reach the rating.

  • @johnbutler5208

    Wind turbine to rectifier. Rectifier to battery. Battery to light bulb. Success.
