And maybe introduce some new confusion on the way. Sometimes people from overseas (okay, let's be honest, America) ask me how things are in England and I ...

For Seasons of the Ukulele 652: Copycats (See forum.ukuleleunderground.com/threads/season-652-copycats.165388/) Here's a song that this week's esteemed host did not so very long ago. I think it's fun to take these 80s synth classics and see how to work with just a simple uke part and voice. So... sometimes that's what I do :).
Raisins (Full version, so far)

So there's this song I wrote, Raisins, which is basically a string of mild curses aimed at someone who's done something mildly rude. Being unashamedly a list song, it keeps getting longer, and over the weekend I was at the World Sci Fi convention and came up with more rude things and... well, I thought I'd record the whole thing so far. Includes extra lines and ideas contributed by various filk...

For Seasons of the Ukulele 650: Birthday Presents (See forum.ukuleleunderground.com/threads/seasons-of-the-ukulele-650-birthday-presents.165168) Octopuses are fascinating creatures, although apparently the thing that's most fascinating to most people is that it's easy to have an opinion on what the plural is (it's "octopuses", by the way :)). So, here's a song about that. You can search the web...

SOTU 584: Come On Up To The House (Yates and Steam do Tom Waits)
The older I get, the more I like and appreciate Roger Whittaker’s music. He’s one of my Dad’s favourites, so I guess it’s a reminder of happier times for me. And this is a lovely cover of a beautiful song - well done, matey! :-)
Good choice Edwin! I didn’t have Kenya on my dance card. I have a couple of African artists I really like..Ali Farka Toure and Fela Kuti..but their music is beyond my ability to cover. RW was a nice find. Real listenable cover too.
Ha! Stirring up The Troubles again. I'm joking you are more the peacemaker of course. I can tell you it's not just Americans that are flummoxed by the concept of the U.K. Plenty of Australians are clueless too. Good song!
To be fair a lot of Brits can't make sense of it either :). Cheers!
Love it! I was thinking, what this needs is a Venn diagram, and then you sang it! :) I would still like to see that Venn diagram, though...
Cheers! I've seen some, although the ones I've seen use "British Isles" so presumably weren't drawn by anyone from Ireland.
Excellent!
Cheers!
i er dunno this song.....but I like it! Actually I enjoyed this a lot! I know some Depeche Mode songs but I never got into them. I like your crumpled tee too! All the smartest people wear crumpled tees!
Cheers! I'm just doing my best impression of an absent minded academic :).
Hurrah - some 80s Depeche Mode! Really appreciate you picking this one, matey - and for making it work so well on uke! Thanks so much! :-)
Cheers! I've been thinking of this one for ages.
I love how you can translate a song you associate with synths and drum machines and make it work perfectly on uke.
Cheers!
Surprising what works on uke, this sounds good.
You captured the Dylan vibe for sure. That was a great cover, Edwin.
Great version of possibly His Bobness's finest work (discuss). I will also host at some point in the autumn, once holidays and daughter's wedding are out of the way.
Great to have a spot of harp. Well played!
Good choice Edwin, some songs deserve to be played again and again.
So many Bob’s. Which to choose? This was a good one. I will feel slack if I don’t get one in.
awesome! I am inspired to try to play a Bob Dylan song and maybe try the harp too! (I need to buy one )
Thanks! Yes, you should definitely get a harp :). Although like ukes they tend to multiply, especially given they need to be in the right key.
Mighty fine version Edwin. Yes, a lot of us will have to get a Bob song in this week since the opportunity has been made available.
Thanks! Yes, I hope to hear more :)
Fine songwriting and performance!
Congratulations for your performance. Beautiful Ukulele and harmonica playing. Beautiful interpretation. Musical greetings from France. Pierre
Thanks!
Absolutely lovely, Edwin! Thanks so much!!!
Thank you!
YES!! I love me some harmonica, and I think you ARE getting a hang of that harmonica rack! Well done! 👏 👏 👏
Thanks!
Nice one, Edwin! It's a good reminder that the ocean freaks me out! Hahahahhaa
"Many tricks up many sleeves" 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Super song in praise of the other most intelligent creature on the planet. PS Have you seen the "My Octopus Teacher" video?
Thanks good drop 🌞🌒🌚
Great song, you really have a way with words.
Thanks :).
There's something really rather appealing about the idea of Cosmic Latte. I like this a lot! Some lovely wordplay in there, Edwin. I suddenly fancy a coffee...
Cheers! Our coffee machine in the office was broken for a large part of today. It did make things go pretty slowly...
Love the Jangly sound of the tiple and those lyrics are great! What a treat. I had a play too which was also fun!
Excellent, this is why I put the chords there too :). Glad to have you joining in!
Yup! Nice vibe and I joined in too!! Thanks for that jam, Edwin!
Like the production sound here. Nicely cosmic and broody.Actually there is a chord change that reminds me of “ Under the Milky Way “ by the Church..Oz band. Good song Edwin.
Cheers! And I must look them up. I'm always glad to hear some more, er, space rock, or whatever this is.
You've created another unique song. I enjoyed listening to this Edwin. Stellar performance
Thanks!
So, er, I just noticed that "Stellar" was a splendid pun. I must have been off form yesterday :).
@@jtsteam Ha! It really was stellar, in every sense
I saw a story about this too but it never occurred to me to write a song about it! Kudos dude!
Thanks! Sometimes when my head is in songwriting mode, anything can be a topic for a song :). Now, on to octopuses, I think...
Great stuff here!
Thank you!
Nice one Edwin. Original NES games seem so much harder since being reintroduced to them on switch
Fine songwriting!
Thanks!
Such a heartfelt song. Love your picking and thoughtful lyrics. Don't know the subject though!
Thanks! Well, who might I have known in 1985? Someone who might have been a bit of a weird kid...
A beautiful nostalgic song, Edwin
Thanks!
I like the song but I am puzzled. Some sort of IT from 1985?. But that doesn't match the bookworm verse, Or maybe your younger self?
It's weird young me, from weird older me... weird young me was fine, just didn' t know it yet :)
I wasn’t sure who this was about, but one thing I’m sure of it’s about all the kids who don’t quite fit in for whatever reason. Me and Mrs PGuke have this same conversation about someone very close to us and about how she is yet to find “her people”, which we know she will do one day. This is a beautiful lyric Edwin, one of your best and you are no slouch in the lyric department 😊
Allegorical writing on its best, Edwin!
Great version!
Whoah I’d never have guessed this was a Waits tune. Guess I need to dig a little deeper into his stuff than I already have. Keep playing and blowin’ too!
Very nicely done!
What a great song, Edwin ... and a great job from you!
Grand bravo pour ton interprétation et jeu de Ukulélé et harmonica.. Belle prestation. Salutations musicales; Musical greetings
Merci beaucoup!
I confess I don't really know any Tom Waits songs. So, I read the lyrics. I understand how it fits. That aside, this is a solid performance. The singing and playing are real good. The harmonica fits in nicely too.
Thanks! I think he has some really nice ones that work well on the uke.
What a great choice! Love me some Waits. Personally I hope the harmonica phase sticks around, it wonderful! Really nice stuff here!
Thanks! I don't think it's going away any time soon :). Just maybe not on every single song... I suppose this one could have used an accordion, if only I had one.
Well done, Edwin! 👍
This suits your style so well. Definitive version for the week. 👍👍
Edwin, as per usual, you did an awesome job. The lyrics are powerful.
Good version!
Fine speculation in song about THE question AFAIAC. Nice one Edwin!
I’ve a lot of time for Donovan. Saw him at Glasto a good few years ago, then about 10 years ago saw him in Manchester. His singing was way out of tune, but he was such an engaging performer and between songs he told stories of partying with the Stones and drug busts, it was a great night.
What a beautifully thought out original Edwin. That fear and disdain for “the other” is one of the worst human traits there is.
what a great song. Such touching lyrics. so much truth (and sadness) here. I noticed Earth FM is tuned to AM. :--) Reminded me of a line a friend loves to say : which planet are you on? Love this, Edwin. Bravo.
and it seems to me like I had commented on your last haircut just yesterday....how time just disappeared... Anyway, great haircut!
