Catharsis - 25th Live Show in Moscow, Russia - Impervious Excellence - Zar's Top Shelf 009 [ZTS-009]
Catharsis is my favorite Russian band. This live performance from 10/15/2022 is ABSOLUTE TOP SHELF. The 7-piece band is backed by a full orchestra for the entire show. The display of musicianship, elegance, spontaneity, and sincerity is unmatched. All of this happening 6 months after the invasion of Ukraine.
I take the original 2+ hour performance and highlight some of my favorite songs and moments while adding brief commentary in between.

    I had never heard the Ventolin mixes as I discovered the track simply off of I Care Because You Do, however this track always stuck out to me and was always one of my favorites by Aphex Twin to begin with. Its so cool to hear someone so genuinely passionate about electronic music and IDM describe this track and the admiration for Aphex Twin as a whole. Wish I could meet someone to talk to about electronic music like this in casual life as its difficult to find people who listen to electronic music as a whole seriously, much less IDM and ambient music. This video was great to watch and nerd out to, youve got engaging insight I love to hear it, and I love discovering these complete reworks. The Marazanvose mix I think disturbs me more than the original ever did, though the original definitely blew my mind upon first listen.

    Thank you for reviewing these tracks. I think they are part of mr aphex discography somehow sitting in the background, but such a pleasure when they are found and explored. I think my favourite is the Probus mix. Also the variant of the main synth melody in the Wheeze mix is definitely one of the best things Ive ever heard. The Luke Vibert mix is nice in my opinion i think his own discography deserves exploration. Stuff like his jungle things with Amen Andrews moniker or Lovers Acid album with his name. The definitive funk from his 2009 album or even his recent releases like UK Garave vol1. In conclusion i would say the whole world of aphex and friends deserves your time. from 26 mixes for cash ive found the amazing Seefeel and The Gentle People, so he definitely paved the way for a lot of interesting artists. Finally i was able to see him live on Field Day 2023 which was hands down such a threat. Felt like some sort of pilgrimage :D

      You do have a point there. Manowar kills! Well....at least they used to....their latest, The lord of steel was such a disasterpiece, the ones before that have some cool songs on em i guess but...man! those first Manowar albums contain some of the best metal ever made! Especially these two epics, never heard anything like it before. The rest of Battle hymns is great (i dont even mind the bassolo, i really hate the ones Joey did later on though) but these 2 songs....❤ (Other personal favourites from the early albums are March for revenge, Revelation, Mountains, Thor the powerhead, The oath, Defender, Black wind fire and steel...) Interesting. I've always used musical content, not lyrical content, to define genres. Your reasoning makes a lot of sense though. Based on your thinking, Anton Kabanen's work (that is often based on manga "Berzerk") is the first that comes to mind as current "Heavy Metal". (Look at first three albums of Battle Beast, after which Anton left to form Beast In Black), He even mentions Manowar as influence. Examples: Battle Beast: "The Band of the Hawk", "Steel", "Fight, Kill, Die". Beast in Black: "The Fifth Angel", "Die by the Blade", "Dark New World". By the way, Beast in Black does a cover of "Battle Hymns". Their vocalist Yannis is one of the few that can pull it off, check it out :)

    Great video! ❤ Wuthering Heights! I have never met a metalfan that even knew of their existence.... Ofcourse that would be different if they would have done a couple of tours with...lets say Blind Guardian for example.....but unfortunately they didnt (I envy those who saw em at ProgPower USA way back) So far i introduced WH to 3 of my friends and my sister, they all were blown away by the 3 parts of Longing for the woods, i usually start with those and the 2 Apathy divine songs. So....in the Netherlands there's at least 4 people that know and love WH! 😀 I myself discovered them listening to a powermetal collection someone put together on YT which had Longing...pt.1. Such a great band, so much creativity, power, amazing poëtic lyrics and 1 of the best vocalists imo. ( i love all the other bands/projects Nils sang with as well!😊) Not long after that i bought the 2nd and 3rd album and later on the 2 that came after. Still hoping for new material.....last thing i read in an interview with Nils that there were plans for an album or E.P. with 1 lengthy new track and some re recordings of older songs that Nils didnt originally sang on....but that was a couple of years ago.... I hope mr. Ravn is doing ok... Anyway....very nice to hear your take on this song and great to see Wuthering Heights getting some love. Greetingz from the Netherlands \m/

    Are all of the words she is using created by her, or is she also using some words from a pre-existing language?

    • @jonzaremba
      @jonzaremba หลายเดือนก่อน

      My understanding is that everything here is her own language. With her other bands Ricinn and Oxxo Xoox, she blends her language with French and English.

    Thanks for sharing your experiences with this sound and many thanks for doing this mix. It’s really appreciated. I listened to Spring Heel Jack in my late teens and they have an incredible imaginative and beautiful sound. Jungle DnB is magical music I. Many ways. Would you consider a request: doing another Speing Heel Jack of their remixes and remixes of their tunes by others?

    Listening 2 mixes by you meant I was obliged to listened the 3rd, this. I also think it the same way, oldskool HH with piano and breakbeats was a heavenly feel good music, then gradually became so obnoxious pretending wonder what with those horny chicks on compilation covers. Nice one again.

    • @jonzaremba
      @jonzaremba 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks again Joe. Yes, almost everything after this era was obnoxious. With the exception of the first few years of Kniteforce Again's releases ... pretty much into about 2010. But beyond that label, all the late 90s and 00s HH was dreadful.

    Nice one. I still remember my first encounter with SHJ, in summer '98 buying "Busy Curious Thirsty" from Virgin Megastore here in Malta. There were a lot of this CD album at reduced price and coming to think about it the 3xLP version of this album still sells so low these days. Maybe over supply? Anyway, since then SHJ remained one of my favourite artists.

    Great mix from a sublime band who were massively underrated at the time. Have you heard their classic remixes for the likes of EBTG, Techno Animal, Joi etc?

    • @jonzaremba
      @jonzaremba 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Dave. I believe I've heard most of the remixes. I have the EBTG release. Probably my favorite. Techno Animal is another underrated artist. I always thought if he chose a different artist name, people would have caught on.
