  • Manowar invented heavy metal. Disagree? Well, you're wrong.
In this video, I explain why Dark Avenger and Battle Hymn are the first two heavy metal songs ever recorded. I play sections of each song and analyze their impact while sharing my interpretation of their narrative.

Pretty soon they'll be giving you the discount on coffee, old timer! hahahaaa.... I envy you honestly. I would have loved to hear this music when it was brand new and fresh. Must have been a mind blowing experience. I was born in 76 so my high school music was quite a bit different. Metal was already replaced with grunge/rap by the corporate forces.

You do have a point there.
      Manowar kills!
Well....at least they used to....their latest, The lord of steel was such a disasterpiece, the ones before that have some cool songs on em i guess but...man! those first Manowar albums contain some of the best metal ever made!
Especially these two epics, never heard anything like it before.
The rest of Battle hymns is great (i dont even mind the bassolo, i really hate the ones Joey did later on though) but these 2 songs....❤
(Other personal favourites from the early albums are March for revenge, Revelation, Mountains, Thor the powerhead, The oath, Defender, Black wind fire and steel...)
Greetingz from the lands of Nether!😊

@wobvandijk555 those are all favorites of mine too. I'm planning a Mountains video soon. And if you think Lord of Steel is bad, check out the stuff they released afterwards. Totally miserable.

Very interesting take. I'll have to think on this more. I'll always love Manowar, I feel like the song that baptized me into Metal-dom is Hand of Doom by Manowar when I was a kid.

The last 3 songs on Warriors of the World are the best songs from that album and possibly the last 3 good songs they recorded. Not even joking here, but I literally just listened to Hand of Doom this evening.

Interesting. I've always used musical content, not lyrical content, to define genres. Your reasoning makes a lot of sense though. Based on your thinking, Anton Kabanen's work (that is often based on manga "Berzerk") is the first that comes to mind as current "Heavy Metal". (Look at first three albums of Battle Beast, after which Anton left to form Beast In Black), He even mentions Manowar as influence. Examples: Battle Beast: "The Band of the Hawk", "Steel", "Fight, Kill, Die". Beast in Black: "The Fifth Angel", "Die by the Blade", "Dark New World". By the way, Beast in Black does a cover of "Battle Hymns". Their vocalist Yannis is one of the few that can pull it off, check it out :)

Thanks buddy. If I'm not mistaken, I think Battle Beast/In Black is referenced on Manowar's wiki page.

I'd encourage you to check out the album by Triumpher from last year. It's my favorite current expression of true metal.

@@jonzaremba Will do, I've never heard of them. EDIT: I would even define them as "Heavy Metal" by the musical content. It is like old Manowar. Straight to my playlist, thanks :)

He has betrayed himself. It all started when he lost the weight. He has reversed all of his core beliefs in the last 10 years. It culminated with his ultra-authoritarian stance during covid. I used to admire him greatly for being an individual. Even when I disagreed with him. But now, he's just a government-loving populist.

Man,uve described every pillar of manowar's journey perfectly..too bad they didnt just stop while they still on top of their game..that'll cemented them status with holy greatness instead of what we're seeing nowaday..yeah,die hard fans mostly wont agree..but manowar has long gone from their original sound

    • @jonzaremba
      @jonzaremba  16 วันที่ผ่านมา +1

@mohdluqman4681 thanks buddy. Kings of Metal should have been their final album. I like Triumph of Steel, Louder than Hell, and the last 3 songs on Warriros of the World...but in retrospect, if they stopped at Kings of Metal they would have gone down as the greatest band of all time and none of the mythology they created about themselves would have been challenged.

@@jonzaremba yeah, that'll crazy be op.but i dont think stopping at kings of metal would be their option..they've got too much offer even after kings of metal..still,losing ross the boss is their biggest letdown..that man may be not the best guitarist ever, but damn, his style really brings out the best of manowar's music.keep up the good work man..
      really appreciate ur video
