I’m born and raised from Matagorda county and very much enjoyed this video. When you flew that drone above the air field did you notice that canal?! Well, those little sliver’s are all over. There are very symmetrical, horseshoe’d or are still present and could be functional. I’m starting to believe there was much more to our history than we are told. Ancient or relatively recent. Idk 🤷🏼♂️. I enjoy postulating and theorizing this subject. It’s a lost art. Great video, keep going
Did a survey on that island to locate oil wells and their leases areas! I saw the lighthouse but didn't know it of Civil War Era! Or the cemetery? But walked off a runway to a travse point, I accidentally jump a large non typical deer it jumped up and scared the hell out me! They had cattle there too! And on a second day I saw a squadron of Japanese Zeros flying out the setting sun heading to Houston for the Confederate Air Force Show! That Island was a trip to survey on! Lots of Rattle Snakes!
There was five navy bases in Corpus Christi and in the nearby area all but one is closed from World War II I recognize those concrete taxiways. I believe on all of the clothes situations there is still concrete like that the one that still exists Naval Air Station Corpus Christi even though the Blue Angels we're never based here it fell under Corpus Christi naval air stations command.
Thanks for watching! 🙏 It's a boat landing directly north of the airfield, labeled "POC tent camping" on Google Maps. You might be able to find it with the search box.
That’s great we love that area had a place in Cape Carancahua for about 10 years. We just purchased 1 acre on tres Palacios Bay next to the old grassy point bait camp. I’ve always wanted to take my boat out to the island. Additionally, your video on Powderhorn is excellent
Check out the findagrave listings, most of the individual grave listings have history of EACH person, one helped the development of the Island & it appears to be MORE than one cemetery there, wish I lived close I'd like to check it out, your drone shots were well done@@beyond_civilization
So cool!! It's so interesting to find such old and isolated gravestones. Glad you didn't run into any snakes
We were thrilled that we were able to find the cemetery. And believe me, we walked very carefully. 😅 Thanks for watching! 👍
@@beyond_civilization love your videos. It's a cool mixture of the hike as well as aerial shots. Keep on keeping on 🤙🏼🤙🏼

Very interesting observation; never thought about that. Thanks so much for coming by! 🙏🏻
The abandoned airfield is now known as Army Hole. Good camping (with Limited Public Use Permit) but no amenities available.
Very nice info on the cemetary. Thank you.
Thanks so much for coming by! 😊🙏
didn't hear anything about how the government took that land from a family
Don't tread on me.

I never get tired of that island! It's spectacular. You can go on July 4th and STILL have the entire beach to yourself.
I didn't even know there was this sight in Matagorda, i visited that town years ago.
So desolate part if Matagorda .
Thanks for the info
Yeah, pretty crazy, huh? The island is just off the coast, not too far from the town itself.
Tried to get the island back. Mr Ainsworth tried for years.
Those listed on findagrave on this island that has military designations are listed as U.S. Colored Troops aka Black Yankees
That is quite interesting! Maybe there's more to this place than I was aware of. 😮

sick y’all 🤘
Wow, amazing! Thank you!
It was a blast. Thanks so much for watching, and enjoy the long weekend!
Wonderful, where exactly did you dock on the bayside?

That's awesome! I hope you enjoy the new property; the whole area is gorgeous. Thanks so much for the positive feedback! 🙏
Thanks for this production, would of NEVER known of such otherwise, it appears there were NO buildings??
Very few buildings, overall. Most have been demolished, although there are a few wrecked or vacant buildings scattered around the island.
Did you really just say “IDK if y’all want to check it out?”
For sure we do!
Hahaha thanks, bro!! I'm really glad to hear that. 😂🙏🙏🙏
Now I wanna go!
I figured you would like the cemetery! Who knows what kind of stories it contains. 👀
Prolly some other stuff out there that is unseen@@beyond_civilization
