My 60 GB PS3 that I got back in 2007, got that yellow light issue just yesterday! I hope it can be fixed. I only used it for playing Gran Turismo (GT5 Prologue and GT6) and I had a very nice car collection :-( I think my PS3 had been very reliable. I mean, I didn’t play daily and it was stored in a dry place for a couple of years (until the pandemic, that is, when I resumed playing). And even though I had never changed thermal paste, until early this year, honestly, it wasn’t burnt, and the fan was not dirty. It probably failed due to wear and a period of time running hot (a long time ago, I lent it to an uncle to use it as a BD-player, and the idiot placed it in a cased cabinet, and he even shut the door because he found the fan noise annoying!). That must have stressed my PS3. I regret I lent it… I always kept it in a place with good ventilation and in tower position… Gosh I hope it can be fixed!

So when you Frankie do you HAVE to put evilnat on? Isn’t this a jailbreak OS? Can you swap the chips and still keep original OS on?

You need to use Tacky flux just a little bit to get the balls on the chip been reballing for 18 yrs now :).

Try to get yourself better flux, this is getting black and sticky way too fast. It is not suited for this kind of long time heating.

Bad quality flux. Change your flux

You should use hot air from under, heat the CPU only.

You have to use am4 flux . Much easier for reballing

As someone that has never done a reball and has even very limited soldering skills, I'm wondering if after you remove the stencil and the balls are sitting there, wouldn't it be easier to use like a hot plate to melt the balls rather than a heat gun? I don't think anybody else has mentioned this in the comments, so it might just be a stupid idea
