Harvesting a 65nm RSX from a YLOD PS3
This PS3 (model: CECHL) is having YLOD. Instead of fixing it, I harvest the 65nm RSX from it, which will be used for Frankenstein mod later.
Before part harvesting, I extracted the syscon error log using a FT232RL TTL. The error log shows 1002, 2024, and 2124. Upon checking the wiki, it seems these errors are related to the HDMI encoders, which means the RSX is good to be harvested.
Equipment used:

This PS2 is unable to load games, it always goes to the browser. When FreeHDBoot is used, it gets stuck on a black screen. Brother do you repair them? I have a 60gb fat ps3 that is reading ps1 ps3 but is not reading ps2 silver disc and dvds any tips? Or I can pay you to repair it for me?
That's great to see that there is hardware out there to use as a diagnostic tool, it reminds me of automotive stuff that my relatives bitch about. Why not have tools that tell you exactly what is wrong so you can apply the right fix?

40.00 Shipping for a simple pack of resistors from Amazon/Digikey is just not feasible in any world. Buying from the US is just not worth the trouble. Buy a pack of 50 caps, take out the 10-15 low quality ones and you still pay much less than a 20-pack shipped from the US

Hey I might have a tip to help with the cleaning of the BGA, th-cam.com/video/SdymB1vLdF8/w-d-xo.html on this video he uses a "low melt solder" to remove the bga from that memory, it might also help in the case of the RSX

Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I often warn folks about the false economy of taking the time to repair something with mystery meat components from AliExpres, Amazon, eBay, etc. Note that you won't be able to make truly consistent and accurate ESR measurements that low with a two-lead meter, you'll require a four-wire Kelvin connection. Your setup in the video clearly illustrates the point though, being as how the AliExpress capacitors are off by an order of magnitude! It looks like the AliExpress capacitors have been remarked, you can see abrasion patterns on the top in the video. This is common with counterfeit components. It's also why the AliExpress capacitors are thinner.

@@hardwarerepair200 I personally use an old Gen-Rad 1657 RLC Digibridge, we've got several in our shop. Anything with a true four-wire Kelvin connection from a reputable manufacturer.

What is so special about that ps3 chip?
This chip is more reliable than the 90nm one used in the earliest PS3. I am going to transplant it to the BC model.
Finding that cap must have been painful :D Loved the content, and congrats for the successful lift :). But the video was waaaay too quick for me. Had to play it at .75 :D Felt like watching an 8 minute long short.
The original video was 40+ minutes long. In the end I 10x most of the clips to make it shorter. For the BGA rework part, I play it at 40x. So ya, it makes sense to play it at .75!

I love watching TheCord3r too! But I don't have enough electronics knowledge to explain stuffs like him. Most of the time I simply look at the board and have no idea what's that. Once I gets better, I will consider making longer videos like his!

3:40 I remember doing this with a cheapo portable butane gas stove from the bottom, no hot air needed. Took 5-10mins.

@@hardwarerepair200 I didn't put it too close to the flame. Used a square metal grill like those for BBQ. Was expecting to trash the motherboard but surprisingly there were no "popcorning" lol. In and Out.
@@hardwarerepair200 It would make excellent content if you made a video about it! Also spread the info you don't need expensive equipment to harvest RSX. I'm not bold enough to transplant it using this method though.

GLOD is a bit difficult to diagnose as it gives no syscon error. Which PS3 model do you have?
