Yanis Varoufakis & Slavoj Zizek | Indigo Festival 2021
มุมมอง 76K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Yanis Varoufakis is a top economist who was at the forefront of international media attention as Minister of Finance in the Syriza government in Greece. Today, he leads the left-wing pan-European political movement DIEM. The conversation with Varoufakis, led by Slavoj Žižek, will be far from a polite exchange of opinions by two like minded colleagues. It will address the issues faced by today’s...

from an episode of The Progressive Internationalist: fb.watch/3F9PSQ2A1A/ No radical transformation of the world is possible without radicality of love. But, with the Covid-19 pandemic and its ill-named social-distancing dictum, we find ourselves trying to build our social worlds anew amidst an accelerating digitisation of life. Big Tech is colonising - or even pre-programming - desire. The pop...

    That's a whole lot of words to say nothing at all. I don't think my problem is with whether or not Laibach are fascists as much as fascists believe that Laibach are fascists.

    It's strange how Zizek puts into words the obvious, and somehow struggles with it, because the obvious is so... untangible, strange, weird. Easy to understand, intuitively, but hard to explain. Points to Zizek for trying :)

    "Eccentric core" ! Me like ... However as long as keep pushing the idea of love along the line of degrees and levels these paradigms evermore will disturb the very act of loving. Loving in all it's spectrality. The concept always will.put limits to an operation which needs no description. The deeds PRRECISELY stand and fall for and by themselves, I claim. SORRY, I talk too much😊

    Love does seem to be born out of our social-relations as an obstacle. While sexuality, on the other hand, as something that needs to be emancipated, does not at all seem correct, under the present social-relations.

    A similar observation can be made of Verhoeven's Starship Troopers (the sort of film that a fascist society would make), which is why it is brilliant satire, too. Laibach, however, turned the ambiguity up to 11

    Love them both but Varoufakis' point about the supposed lack of Imperialism and Colonialism of China falls moot when he mentioned just sentences prior their atrocities in Tibet and Turkestan which certainly amounts to Imperialism, ethnic cleansing and an extremely thorough colonial project unseen since the American manifest destiny.

    When verofakis says he has an ideological opposition to giving a shit about why the PM didn't go ahead with his plan I think he means that because this happened his plans were always untenable. The PM and syriza were never going to be able to buck all the pressure put on them, which is why he's looking for another avenue and not just thinking "well of our PM had more of a backbone it would have worked out"

  • @user-zi4wx3uw1y

    It’s true that China’s influence in Africa isn’t as horrible as Europe’s. That doesn’t mean it‘s “just business”. There aren’t Chinese troops killing Zulus, but the economic relations (even if they are “voluntary” now) are still pretty similar to the imperial ones Walter Rodney wrote about - exploitation of African labour and natural resources in exchange for Chinese infrastructure, with the lion’s share of the profits ending up in foreign cities. Indeed, the Europeans also tried to claim that they gave Africans schools, hospitals and railroads as credits for robbing them. Nothing’s really changed.

    Damn! I think I got my answer. As I am seeing This Forum being held in English I was thinking to myself, damn! Europeans are encouraged to speak two or three languages and we in America barely speak one (the working class, apart from school costing an arm and a leg) that way we don't have solidarity with the Europes. Then I hear Varoufakis say political candidates in the U.S. can't participate in an international organization. BAM! there it goes.

    With regards to China And how Yannis said they never colonised anyone. What about Tibet? Manchuria? And probably a host of ethnic Muslim countries in the west including the elimination of the Uyghurs (weegors) his whole credibility is brought into question by not mentioning this

    • @adamoleoni2272
      @adamoleoni2272 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But he did mention those problems. Did you listen to the talk?

    • @moeuramo
      @moeuramo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@adamoleoni2272 yes he briefly brushes over it at around 1hr 12 min and then he said at around 1 hr 15 min that China has never colonised any country in the world at the 1 hr 14 min to 15 min mark. Slavoj had to constantly dumb down his discussion with yannis. I listen to yannis as he has given a greater insight into how the world works Eg when in another talk he mentioned how Paul volker when he was in a meeting with Kissinger said not to be worry about the balance of trade deficits as they just have to get the Europeans, Japanese,(China now etc) to recycle the deficits into “investments” into the USA which are worthless Eg subprime mortgages and that is why they gave Wall Street so much cash to inflate the USA “investments / stocks etc) In answer to your question if I listened to it? Yes at least twice and again a third time in some parts to find the time points , but In the spirit of Slovaj who says manners are of the upmost importance, I thank you for your integrity to draw out more information then I provided in my criticism of yannis which has hopefully allowed us both to fully appreciate verifiable information
